Tommy slowly makes his way toward the river, determined to make it this time. He even brought a packet of blood with him, carrying it in his pocket. One part of his mind hoped that it would be body temperature by the time he got to the river. Another part of him...one that's been fading over the past few weeks...was repulsed. A grin lit his face as he smelled the cool scent of the river, his ears picking up the sound of it a while before. It would be so nice to wash himself in that water...cool...clear...refreshing...
He shakes his head out of a daze before continuing on, his walker making a distinctly metallic ring every time he puts it down. It bothered his large ears, but it was a small price to pay for mobility.

Emerwyn had spent most of this most glorious day with Ian. They had decided to lie in for a while that morning, an unspoken agreement. Emerwyn breathed deep, letting the warm morning air fill her lungs. The rest of the day she spent walking with him, until they decided to depart for a while, to stretch their legs and their minds.
She wandered down by the river as the day waned. Being of sound mind once again, she'd taken to being more aware of her jungle hygeine. Also, the night before had caused her fur to replenish all the dirt the shower had expelled. So, she slipped into the river, wearing only the cloak that Lucas had given her for Christmas. This way, should anyone come by, she'd have split-second protection. She waded into the river, then plunged her head in, pulling it out with a loud splash.

Tommy paused for a moment at the sound of a splash, his keen ears trying to determine where and how far away it came from. He shakes his head, trying to get the bats out, and decides to occupy himself some other way. He began fishing a clawed thumb into his pants pocket, and after a moment pulled out his packet of blood. With a sigh, he opened the pack and took a long pull from it. His gaze wandered from the river, to the jungle, and finally to the clouds painted pink in the dying sun. How he longed to be there. Up there...the wind beneath him...away from everything...all of his cares and worries...
With a sigh he looks back to the river where his eyes at that point decided to catch up with his ears.
Eyes wide, blood sprayed from his mouth in surprise as he saw one of the most beautiful, albiet mostly nude, creatures he had ever seen in the river a ways off. Blinking, he just stares for a moment before forcing himself to look away, a growing blush coloring his cheeks.

The water was a little cold, giving Emerwyn just the jump of energy she needed. Briskly, she shook her hair out. As her head turned, though, she caught a glimpse of something at the corner of her eye. It took a double-take to realize that it was someone, who was looking at her for a fair amount of time before looking away. In her own shocked look, it took her some moments before quickly wrapping her cloak about herself, thankful she'd worn it, though it was now thoroughly wet.
She emerged from the water and approached him, feeling that running off in embarassment would be foolish. The cloak was long enough to almost reach her knees, after all. She smiled at him warmly to show that there were no hard feelings.

Tommy's only thought was to get away as soon as possible. His webbed fingers gripped the handles of his walker until his knuckles turned white, his packet of blood forgotten on the ground. Something in his mind kept on telling him to fly away to get away run away it's awake, it's awake, run! But he forced these thoughts down with a shake of his head.
Instead of fleeing, he decided only to nervously watch Emer as she approached him. My God she looks beautiful...no...stop it! Don't think like that...please...please don't go down that road, Tommy.
A half-hearted grin appears on his fanged face as she approaches and he nearly panics once again, wanting to say something but not being able to get it out. What comes out is but a mumble, "I...I'm sorry, ma'am...I didn't kno...know you were out here..."

Emerwyn did her best to ignore the fact that there was blood dribbling down the man's chin. She'd long ago accepted the fact that these changes changed everyone's appetite to the extreme - at least she wasn't on the menu.
"Please, do not think on it," she said sweetly. "I should not have been so presumptuous to take over the river like that. It was my fault." She paused to make sure her cloak was properly clasped. "I am Emerwyn."

Tommy self consciously wiped the blood away as best he could with the back of his forming wing. He stared down at the red smudge that appeared. He blinks as he takes not of her accent. His nervous grin gets a little less so as he voice seems to calm him. "s'alright...oh, um...name's Tommy...Tommy Christian."
He glances from her to where the jungle and back. "You live out there alone?" he asks, wondering how people could willingly subject themselves to that reality...but of course, not everyone was in his condition when he 'visited' the jungle.

She nodded to Tommy in greeting. "A pleasure."
"For a while, yes, I did live out here on my own," Emerwyn said. "However, I have recently started living here with a dear, dear friend. Ian." Her face positively glowed as she delivered this news. She decided not to mention that she had only just reunited with him the day prior.

Tommy smiled at this, despite the fact that his left leg tremored slightly from the strain of standing up for so long. She looked...positively happy...as if nothing could break her. She had actually found happiness on this island. And Tommy truthfully couldn't be happier for her. It was a miracle among monstrocities. A flower among weeds, and Tommy felt almost unworthy to be in her presence.
"Heh...you're stronger than most..." he says softly, a small glitter of wonder in his eyes. Quickly though, he snapped out of it, "B...but I'm sorry...again, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to catch you, um..." He trailed off and looked longingly at the half-filled blood packet for a moment.

If it was possible, Tommy's compliment made the Doe glow even brighter. She looked curiously at the ground, where his eyes had wandered. A pouch of red liquid, probably blood, lay there. That must have been what he'd been drinking from. Emerwyn leaned down and took it gingerly, careful not to let it drip, then handed it to him. "As I said - it does not matter to me. Neither of us are to blame. Stranger coincidences have occured."

Tommy gratefully took the medical blood pouch from Emer but didn't sip from it yet...still too embarrassed to do something as tactless as that. He looked back to Emer and smiled again. "Fair enough...I hear you there," he says, "But...don't let me keep you, I can come back another time if that's alright. I still live in the village...and I guess I could give the shower there one more try." He gives that nervous grin again.

Emerwyn laughed, a soft ringing sound. "It would be very nice to see you again, Tommy, under a more comfortable premise, if possible. I personally still have taken to the showers, but more and more I feel the draw of the outdoors and cannot stay in very long. I live with Ian in a little grove a little farther up the river." She pointed. We're sure to stumble upon each other some time."

Tommy nods a few times, grinning at the laugh. "Yeah...I just find it hard to...I mean...heh, I don't really fit in the showers very well anymore...that's all..." he says, trailing off. Stop it Tommy, you're doing it again. Bitching and complaining to every new person you meet. She's happy, let her be. Don't try to bogg everyone else with your troubles.
"But yeah, it was really nice to meet you, Emerwyn...I mean that. I'd love to see you two around sometime."

She smiled warmly, not realizing how much Tommy was beating himself up on the inside.
Emerwyn nodded. "Fare thee well, Tommy." She waved, and started back to retrieve her clothing, which hung on a low branch. She'd change when she returned home.

Tommy gives one last look toward Em's retreating form before turning his walker around laboriously and starting back. His legs hurt like hell, but he still kept on...until something pulled at the corner of his eye.
It was his reflection on the water...the hideous monster he had become, holding a bag of blood in his mouth. A comparison to Emer flashed through his mind...graceful beauty versus this...this travesty. He tried to remember what he used to look like...and for the first time...he couldn't.
A little piece of Tommy died that day.
