Introduction to Vending/ Exchanging

What is Vending?
Vending is when you buy an item for less then the current selling price on the Marketplace, then re-sell the item for higher then what you bought it for to make a profit.

What's exchanging?
Exchanging is basically the same thing as vending. However, instead of buying and selling in the Marketplace you buy and sell in the Exchange Forum.


How do I know what the prices of items are?

There are a lot of websites that list prices and there are many price guides throughout Gaia that try to give a price or value to an item. Unfortunately, most of the time these guides and websites are usually inaccurate or just plain out wrong and/or misleading. (Websites such as www.tektek.org). Usually, the information they use to value these items is from the Lowest Buy Price on the Marketplace at midnight of that day.
For newer items you should check the Marketplace for prices and for older or more rarer items you should go to the Exchange Forums and search.

To generally start vending you need some gold, period.
You should start vending smaller monthly collectibles or items with about 20k – 30k.
Once you work your way up to about 100k+, then you can start vending the larger items that usually bring in more profit.



Vending Tips

1. Copy your password, then paste it into the password box and hit enter. This is essentially a key component to be being a good vendor. Time is very crucial, you take too long and someone else who is faster at entering their password will beat you to the item.

2. Always buy sealed letters after the 1st week they are released for that month. Then try to sell them on the day they are opened (the 15th day of the month).

3. Buying and selling on the day the sealed letters are opened (the 15th of the month) is one of the most profitable days of the month. It is the day many users lower their prices in an attempt to stock up or just plain out buy the new items that were just released. You would be crazy to not take advantage of this!

4. When refreshing the front page of the Marketplace always hit the “view” button or the “go” button. Using the F5 button or the refresh button on your browser can and might register with the Gaia servers as botting. Botting can lead to getting banned and/or the termination of your account and all items in your account.

5. If you see something in the Marketplace that you want, but you don't have enough gold, please do not PM the seller asking them to lower their price. Only offer the seller a very reasonable price that is close to the price they are asking for. If you want a Steel Plated NinjaBand and you PM the seller asking to sell it to you for 50k and your soul be prepared to either get a nasty PM back, or just outright get totally ignored.

6. Vending can take some time, and you will make some mistakes, but don't let it discourage you. It takes time and patience to become a great vendor.

7. One of the biggest things I can tell you about vending is to always confirm and verify your buying decision before you paste your password and buy or sell it. ALWAYS ensure you have the right amount entered before buying or selling an item. There are times where people do not confirm and end up selling an item of theirs for less because they forgot or missed entering an extra digit. (Example: You sell a Katana for 5000gold instead of 50,000gold; all because you missed entering the last zero) So ALWAYS double check before you accept !

Tips on Bidding

OK, So now you have found an item you want, but it's on “bid only”. What do you do?

1. Never bid if it has more then 30 minutes left (especially if it is days till the auction ends). If you do bid you lose your gold until either you win the bid or someone outbids you. This plain out sucks and can be very aggravating, especially if your waiting a week or longer and have no more gold.

2. When the bid gets closer to the end, you can try to “snipe” the item by always bidding a little higher then the obvious. Example: Instead of bidding an even 10,000g, bid 10,020g (or more) The reason being is that most people trying to outbid you will hopefully bid the obvious and you end up surprising them by beating there bid which in the end causes them to take up time figuring out what the price is and re entering another bid.

3. If you win an item, you'll get a P M back saying that you won the bid, and the price that you bought it for.

4. Remember that you can't retract your bid as your bid will be locked in when you confirm. Always bid wisely !

BIG TIP -> Never, never, ever give out your password to anyone. And I mean anyone. Even if someone say’s they are Gaia admins or Hacker / scammer investigators, NEVER give them your password. GAIA ADMINS or anyone working for GAIA will NEVER ask you for your password. Anyone asking you for your password is plain out lying and trying to HACK or SCAM you. Do not believe them, report them or ignore them. There is NO easy way to get items or gold, just face it, you have to earn it.

BIG TIP 2 -> People always ask how to get gold in order to start vending. Well, it is never easy and we all have started out slowly and patiently. Read on...

1. You can bump and post in threads.
2. You can go poll whoring (by participating in polls).
3. You can post comments in profiles, rate and comment avi's in the arena.
4. Play Gaia's games such as Fishing (my favorite), Word Bump, Gaia's Casino games, Puzzles.
5. Or simply donating to Gaia to get the sealed envelopes or letters and selling them to get money.

--> You cannot and never should buy Gaia gold or items from another site such Ebay with real money, PERIOD. You risk being banned and having your account terminated along with all your items you've worked hard to achieve.

Gaia Marketplace: is a system for selling items through an efficient interface. You can sell items, buy items, auction items, etc. Because the Exchange forum is often difficult to use, this system has been put in place to compliment it. Please note that the Gaia Marketplace is not meant to replace the exchange or shops, and those features are not affected.

What is the point of the Vend?
This is a forum where you can take additional offers for the items in your market/vend. Often users prefer gold for their items so they will sell it in the market/vend. However they may be additionally willing to accept items, threads dealing with taking offers like this go here instead of the main Exchange

Monthly collectibles, donation Items, M/C

M/C as you have learned are found in the monthly letters (sealed envelopes)..
M/C items appreciate in value over the months. Some take longer and some rise in value very fast.
e.g. Monthly collectible for the month of July 2006. Letter contained Ancient Katana/ Elegant veil. Price of Katana was around 10,000 gold when they were released. Now the price for a Katana has risen to 69,000 gold. Some items take much longer to rise in value.

Rare Event Items

You know you have a rare event when there is a in the spot where messages and trades go.
Rare, or OMG, Events happen at random intervals while browsing GaiaOnline. There are four types of random events:

Pink Link: A link on the site that is glowing pink. When you click it, you will be automatically given 1000 gold!
Pink Box: After clicking, a pink box will be placed in your inventory. Pink boxes contain really rare stuff.
Blue Box: After clicking, a blue box will be in your inventory. If you open it, you have a chance to get any rare or uncommon item.
Brown Box: After clicking, a brown box will be in your inventory. If you open it, you have a chance to get any rare or uncommon item.
Trunk: After clicking, a trunk will appear in your inventory. Trunks contain any uncommon item. HOUSE items only.
There are 2 types of trunks. Gold trunk or wooden trunk.

These are also referred as commons and there price always remains the same and never fluctuates.

What is a 'K' ?

A ‘k’ is just another way to type 1000g (a thousand is considered a ‘k’)

Example: 1k = 1,000g
Example: 10k = 10,000g
Example: 100k = 100,000g
Example: 200k = 200,000g
Example: 2000K = 2,000,000g
