Grete Llaire

PostPosted: Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:17 pm

Grete sighed, as she looked around at her surroundings. It was a particularly hot day, and the sun was right in her eyes. She frowned slightly, and went back to her work. She had set up a (slightly lopsided) makeshift clothesline, and hung her wet clothes there to dry.

Several beautiful dresses hung there, and swayed slightly in the wind. A few scarves hung here and there, along with things that Grete slept in, and the like. She reached down to pick up another clip, and raised one eyebrow elegantly.

"Damn," She mummbled, once seeing that there were no more clips left.
"What now?"

Silvaara had been roaming the Cirque for a while now, not really knowing where she was supposed to be going. The thought of asking for help crossed her mind, but she had pushed it aside as 'last resort'. It's not that Silvaara disliked asking for help, she just thought it unnecessary at the time.

She pulled the brim of her hat down a little lower, shading her eye from the sun while she looked about for any living being. Her gaze rested a little ways farther down on the back of a woman with very curly hair.

Shrugging inwardly, Silvaara came up behind her, "Excuse me, but could you spare a moment?"

She tilted her head at the clothes line and added, "Unless you are busy."

Grete turned around instantly, and jumped slightly. She hadn't seen anyone around, and she had been startled. She glanced down at a dress that she held in her hands, shrugged, and threw it back in her basket of clothes that needed to be on the line.

Realizing that she had never seen this girl around Cirque before, she stood up straighter, and crossed her arms across her chest.

"New here?" Grete asked, "Don't think I've seen you around here. I'm Grete. Grete Llaire. Seems a bit hot to be wearing a hat, eh?"

Looking down at her laundrey basket, Grete frowned, but then turned her full attention on the new girl.

Silvaara was a little startled herself about startling 'Grete Llaire' (only because she wasn't used to being able to startle people). She tipped her hat slightly in greeting, "Erio. Yes, I am new here, Miss..."

Silvaara hesitated for a moment, wondering if 'Miss' was the proper terminology to use, "...Llaire. And perhaps it is; the heat doesn't bother me much anyhow."

She noticed Grete had been doing something...laundry? Thinking it would be a good first impression (not to mention what she had learned to be 'polite'), she motioned towards the basket, "Do you need help with that?"

Grete shrugged, and smiled.

"I'd take you up on that offer, you know, if I had what I needed. I guess I'll just have to wait for some of this to dry," She glanced sidelong at her dresses, blinked and glanced back at the new girl.

"So, what's your name? Presuming you have one, that it. You never know around here," Grete laughed, as she picked up the large laundrey basket and carried it closer to the door of her trailer. She pushed on the door with her back, and set the basket down on the floor.

Grete turned back around, and closed her door, choosing to sit outside. As much as she hated the heat, she figured that she could at least tolerate it.

"Needed?" Silvaara asked, more to herself then Grete. But watching the curly-haired woman putting the basket in her trailer, Silvaara shrugged the question off.

"Oh forgive me," she said in response to Grete's question, "I'm Silvaara Iksarr."

While Grete made herself comfortable, Silvaara thought about what she had said about people not having names. It puzzled her slightly, having never met a person without one before...even if at times they were fake names. A name's a name, after all.

"What do you mean by people 'not having names'?" she asked, her curiosity speaking more than anything else.

Grete raised one thin eyebrow at Silvaara.

"It was a joke," She explained a bit bluntly; she was not trying to sound rude, but was just a bit confused at the girl's literal understanding of what she said.

"Though, I suppose you can never really know with people around here. If they're using aliases or not. I'd be willing to bet that a particular crew-member's name isn't 'Mister Feelgood', as he has told me several times before."

Grete rolled her eyes and smirked, then crossed her legs and straightened her skirts before looking back up at Silvaara.

"Want to take a seat?" She asked, gesturing to another chair, "So, are you from around here?"

"Oh. Humor," she felt stupid for a moment but felt slightly less so as Grete continued. Silvaara was once again curiously aroused by the mention of people she hadn't met. It was obvious that she didn't like 'him'....whoever 'Mister Feelgood' was. Maybe she could ask somewhere later?

....On second thought, though, she reconsidered it and decided she'd as Grete later instead of just anyone who happened to pass by.

The woman motioned for her to sit, and she did so gladly. Walking around all day without sitting was not getting fun. As she sat, Grete had fired off another question. This time, about where she came from. She was slightly amused at the wording of the question, "From here? No. No I am not."

Ha. She didn't even know where 'here' was. Much less from it.

She studied Grete for a second before asking her own question, "Where are you from, Miss Llaire? You appear to have been hanging around here for a while..."

Grete shot a smile at Silvaara, and stretched her thin arms behind her back. She flicked her hair back quickly, and tried to think of the best way to explain.

"I'm from another dimension. Well, I suppose you'd call it that," Grete paused, biting her lip, "Yeah. That word would probably make sense. Anyways, I joined Cirque once, when I needed to. A...uh, change of scenery, I guess."

Grete glanced at Silvaraa, now realizing that she had, in fact, taken a seat. This relieved Grete, as she would've felt guilty if she had just stood there.

"Oh, gosh, you make me feel old," Grete laughed, as she thought about Silvaraa's remark, "Though, I guess I have been here longer than some. Eh, gets me status around here, I suppose," She added with another joking laugh.

Grete desperately hoped that Silvaraa would catch onto that joke.

"Uh-hu," Silvaara said in a flat tone, raising an eyebrow at Grete. Though she did catch that the woman was joking that time, Silvaara was all-to familiar with the 'old-timers have greater abilities' thing. If there was a simpler way to explain it...

She changed the subject quickly, "Another dimension? Or another world? I've touched a bit on that subject, but it was far too dull for my tastes..."

She thought for a second, wondering if anyone had actually gotten far enough were she had come from to succeed in that area. She had heard rumors about some distant clans finding artifacts that could do it, but she had never gotten around to confirming these rumors. But since the Cirque seemed to be able to, maybe it was possible other places as well.

Silv sighed and shook her head, adding to Grete--with a very slight tone of suspicion--"What exactly do you do here?"

Not sensing that Silvaara understood her joke, again, Grete bit the inside of her lip nervously.

"I..I'm not really old, you know. I'm just twenty-five..."

"Oh, well, where I grew up is more of a different plane, really," Grete frowned, trying to think of the best way to explain it. She had no idea how exactly it worked, but, she tried her best.

"See, it's pretty much Earth, but just with a completely different history. And seeing spirits is a pretty routine occurance. Okay, so, there are some big differences, but you know, on the whole... Cirque switches dimensions, worlds, and plane pretty often, so, we always get a different crowd."

Grete's voice trailed off, and she stared at the ground. She wasn't quite sure what to think of Silvaara. She was a bit...
Well, Grete wasn't even sure of what she was. She just seemed so distant.

"Me? I'm Cirque's medium. People come around, and I speak to their dead family members, lovers, you know. Just whomever they want. And you do what?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:47 pm

Twenty-five, Silvaara though, only twenty-five...
Despite the time differences, twenty-five would be very young where she came from. That's almost a toddler.
Slilvaara's face split into a grin at the combination of Grete's nervousness and her age, "Twenty-five! You're still a child!"

She took a deep breath to keep herself from laughing and continued on, "So it's a normal occurance here to world-travel. That's nice to know. I wonder how they keep everything balanced....or if one's body just adjusts itself? Hnn..."

She glanced at Grete, "Oh, I'm sorry. A medium you say? That's a new word...talking to the dead....We had people like that where I came from, but there were never particularly pleasant to be around."

Silvaara grimaced bitterly at the thought, but quickly shrugged it aside and said, "I'm...how would you say it? An illusion maker would be the simplest way to put it."

Still a child? This intrigued Grete, and she found her self wanting to know more about Silvaara. How old might she be? She was, quite clearly, from a different world, so, Grete figured that age was a lot different there.

Grete was, however, pleased that Silvaara seemed to open up a bit. Seeing her smile was something that threw Grete; she hadn't expected it at all. Perhaps she wasn't quite as distant as she had first believed?

"An...illusion maker?" Grete asked, slightly puzzled, "Well, is it fun?"

PostPosted: Sun Feb 11, 2007 12:28 pm

Silvaara swore inwardly. She had let herself get comfortable without assessing the situation. Still...

She decided to shrug it off, remembering that where ever here was, it wasn't home...the people were different.
And apparently didn't know what 'illusion makers' were.

"Fun?" she had to think about that one. She supposed it had been fun once...and then the few times she could actually do what she wanted, "I suppose you could say it was...amusing at times."

To prove her point, Silvaara held out her previously hidden dragon claw and muttered, "Zrak!", watching as a 'flame' flickered to life. She held it by the 'base' and let her claw drop away, leaving the light flickering in midair.

"You can touch it, it doesn't burn," she added so Grete wouldn't have to worry about hitting it by accident, "Technically, it's not real. Understand now?"
