This thread is dedicated to the pairing of Sarutobi Asuma and Yuhi Kurenai The hints may be few, but they're just too big to ignore.
 This is my second favorite 'canon' pairing, but of course, Shikamaru x Temari would have to take the spot-light when it comes to likelyness. Yet, I can't help but adore this pairing.

The Hints ~ The Obviousness that is Lurve
You can't ignore it. The hints are there. The officialness of it all it just so obvious it's not even funny.
Asuma and Kurenai are always caught sitting next to each other and talking. They're always together.
First, (and probably best) hint in the series - Kakashi is talking to Sasuke, and they come up. (The picture in the first post is from this moment.) Kakashi accuses them: "You guys sure are together often." Kurenai blushes and denies it, mumbling the excuse: "We just met on our way here, I was getting Anko dumblings." or something along those lines. (Crazy, because Kurenai and Anko ACTUALLY have interraction! Who knew the teachers actually knew each other!) Asuma, on the other hand, seems not to care in the least.
Even wikipedia.org agrees with me. =D Quote: Hints throughout the series also suggest that she has a romantic relationship with fellow Jonin Asuma Sarutobi, though neither will admit to anything. The two tend to be seen together often, so they clearly enjoy each other's company, and Kurenai blushed on one occasion when Kakashi Hatake more directly suggested a connection between the two.
Yet another hint.
WARNING: PART TWO SPOILERS FOLLOW.Quote: Asuma visits Kakashi in the hospital, saying he has something he wants to talk about. Kurenai shows up just before they can start, looking for Asuma. When Kakashi asks her if she needs something, she says no. She simply came because she had heard Asuma was there. When Kakashi asks Asuma to continue, Asuma hesitates and says he'll talk to Kakashi later when they have more time. Both Kurenai and Asuma then leave together, leaving Kakashi even more curious about what Asuma wanted to talk about. It is quite possible that Asuma was hoping to talk to Kakashi about his feelings for Kurenai. Unfortunatly, no one will know, for Asuma is gone now and it was never revealed what Asuma wanted.

His Death ~ Information on Asuma's Death Wikipedia.org Akatsuki vs Niju Shotai In the following chapter, Asuma is teamed up with Shikamaru, Kotetsu Hagane, and Izumo Kamizuki as members of Niju Shotai. His team, along with the entire group, was ordered by Tsunade to search for and capture a pair of Akatsuki who had entered the Land of Fire. However, if it doesn't seem possible, they can kill them. Asuma mutters a slight complaint about the mission before taking off ("Well, somebody has to do it.") and Shikamaru looks over in confusion. At that moment, Kurenai looks through her window, just missing Asuma's team as they depart. Asuma and his team eventually track down the Akatsuki members, Hidan and Kakuzu, at a Bounty Station. They quickly discover that Hidan is immortal after their first attack. The situation worsens, when Hidan's counterattack results in him becoming 'linked' to Asuma through a curse ritual. Hidan assumes a Grim Reaper-like form, causing any bodily injury or damage to Hidan to be shared by Asuma. Since Hidan is immortal, a fatal injury would not kill him, but would kill Asuma. Some quick thinking by Shikamaru manages to break Hidan's ritual, allowing Asuma to decapitate him with his chakra-extended trench knives. Surprisingly, Hidan's severed head starts to talk, uttering expletives at Asuma and Kakuzu (for not helping him). Kakuzu finally steps in as he admonishes his partner for letting his guard down. He sews Hidan's head back to his body. With his body restored, Hidan resumes the ritual and inflicts a fatal blow. Though the blow does not instantly kill Asuma, it is still quite fatal. The rest of Asuma's old Team 10 then arrives as backup along with Aoba Yamashiro and Raido Namiashi. This, combined with a telepathic call from the Akatsuki leader to withdraw, forces the Akatsuki duo to leave. Before dying, Asuma leaves some parting words to Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru, including revealing to Shikamaru (but not the reader) who the "king" is, a reference to a conversation the two had earlier about the "king" in Konoha, and smoking one last cigarette. Asuma makes an everlasting appearance in Chapter 338. Just before Shikamaru is going to finish Hidan, his ghostly form appears through the smoke of a cigarette. Asuma congratulates Shikamaru, telling Shikamaru that he has passed on his "will of fire" to him.

Another of your great pairing threads!! ^_^ Wonderful, as always. Anyhoo, 'bout the pairing. I like it. I can see them together in the show. Even Wikipedia can. And the moments you wrote of were cute. ^_^ Ah, denying the truth. But it's sad he died. What will she do...? I thought about Kakashi, but then you say you hate it, (And though it interests me, I haven't seen much possibility yet...) so now I have no clue. Oh well, I sure she'll be happy again. Anyhoo, very nice thread, and I love the pairing. Good job. ^_^ Oh, and do add me to the support list.

Kurenai is pregnant with Asuma's child. They were also married.
