Asi was a mess, simple as that. He was so destrought over the death of his mate, he wasn't behaving as himself. Before, asi used to be chubby. He looked good chubby, he didn't have the right build for a 'normal' weight anyways. Besides, a kind that ate good usually meant his land ate well too (if he was good to his pride). He was rather skinny now, in a way that made him look a little sick. Sadness was eating away at him and he didn't know how to fix it, who to turn to, what to do. It was all a big mess.
His tail flicked as he watched the sun set, his eyes half shut in exhuastion. What was he to do?

Mahoka's pace was slow as she pushed her way though the bushes, her paws dragging lazily across the dirt ground. She wasn't sure where she was going, infact she wasn't even sure why she was going in this particular direction. Her tail tip bristled and flicked as she watched the sun dip behind the hills, her pinched and wiry frame tensing as her gaze fell upon Asi.
She hadn't really expected to come across anyone, in fact she hadn't come across anyone of her kind in a long, long time, and wondered whether she should turn right around and head back the way she came until he left. It wasn't that she didn't like the company -- actually, it was. There was a strange sort of comfort in anonymity. No one knowing who you are, and not really caring if they did.
At the risk of sounding cliche, Mahoka could admit that her heart had been torn out of Kusini'Mwezi a long, long time ago. Now all it held was bad memories. She turned her head to the side, regarding Asi stiffly, before returning her attention back to the decending sun. Maybe she'd stay, just until the sun went down.

Asi lumbered along, nostrils flaring before his eyes flickered over to Mahoka. He blinked in surprise and squinted. Did he know her? He studied the female and slowly headed her way. Was that Mahoka? He hadn't seen her in ages! "Mahoka?" He called out, his voice unsure.

Mahoka's mood turned grim as she realized just who she was sharing the sunset with. Turning, she faced the familliar Lion, her expression neutral. On her journeys, she had often thought of him, considering what to say if they ever met again, turning over all the possibilities in her mind. But why, then, was she so unprepared?
"Asi," she said meekly, watching him carefully as she spoke. "It's been a while. You've gotten thin," Unsure, dithering, she let her ears creep up a little, speculatively, almost in a questioning manner as she studied the other Lion. He was, indeed, very thin.

Ah, this was a mistake. He could feel it in the air, tension was thick. He was never really sure where he stood with Mahoka. She'd confused him all of his life, though he did not think of her as often as she'd probably thought of him. "Eh?" He stated, surprise flickering in his eyes before he seemed to look down at his paws and try and look at his stomach. Had he really lost that much weight? He frowned thoughtfully to himself and glanced back to her.
"Aye, aye. Guess I no be ea'in very well these days.." He said softly, studying her again. "Yeh look pre'y thin yerself. Where 'ave yeh been all this time? I no 'ave seen yeh within the lands..." He trailed off. This felt awkward. He just wanted everything to be right again, but how could he accomplish that feeling ever again?

"I've been around," She said, looking up timidly. "And I suppose I would look a little thin. I don't eat much these days. Food is scarce where I wander." She began to offer him a weak smile before pausing. She tilted her head, scrutinizing him for a moment. Despite being tense just moments ago, she was now, instead, worried and confused. Something was wrong.
Shifting into a more comfortable posistion, Mahoka's voice softened as she spoke. "But enough about me," she said with a chuckle, her voice barely a whisper as she looked to the sunset. "How have you been, Asi? You seem different; withdrawn, sad."

He frowned deeply and his gaze moved to the sky, floating over the beautiful golds and pinks that seemed to be taking over the soft blues. "Me mate 'as been killed.." He said after a little silence. He didn't know wether he wanted to talk about it with everyone or keep it inside! "By me own son." Though Asi he targeted the wrong son, it was all a confusing mess and Asi might not ever know the true killer.

Mahoka was expecting to just sit there and listen indifferently, but couldn't help but feel a sharp shock of sorrow shoot up her spine as the words left his mouth. She inhaled quickly, her brows tugging down into a shallow frown and her eyes shooting downwards.
"Asi," she said softly, leaning forward to nuzzle his side gently. "I'm so sorry."

Asi almost shoved her away. It was weird being nuzzled by a childhood... friend? He supposed they were friends. He didn't think they'd gotten along so well way back when. And then Mahoka up and left... and when she came back? She'd had feelings for him... or something like that. And she up and left again. Only to return now... She was like a wind from a distant land, a beautiful wind that only let others feel her breeze against their fur once in a while. Why was she always gone?
His tail flicked and he leaned into her after a minute. "It be... fine... there no be annee thin' yeh coulda done aboot it." His voice was quiet, sad. After a minute he moved away from Mahoka again. "'ave yeh come to stay in the lands or are yeh departin' again soon?" He said slowly, trying to change the subject.

Mahoka took a hesitant step forward, then another, shuffling forward until she was a little closer. She sat again, sitting a foot or so away from him, considering what he had just said. "I plan to stay," she mumbled, trying to sound nonchalant. She hadn't thought about it, really, but she had wandered enough. Surely there wasn't much else to wander.
"I'm sorry," She offered belatedly. "Not just for never being around, but for being so cruel to you. I was young, arrogant and most importantly naive. I had dreams and idea's big enough to fill the whole of Kusini'Mwezi. I didn't care about anyone else, nor how I was affecting them with my disappearing acts. But I'm here for good this time,"
She smiled and batted at him playfully. "You can't get rid of me that easily."

He chuckled half-heartedly before batting at her paw in return. "Aye, aye. Did no we all 'ave big dreams when we be little?" He said, though it would probably take a minute for her to understand what he was saying. When you were little... the world was big, posibilities were endless and dreams grew out of control. When you grew big... even though the world was big... it was also small. Posibilities were limited, and dreams were few. "I be glad yeh chose ter stay though." It seemed the lands were rotting with family member after family member. Asi enjoyed all of the nonrelated lions he could get in this place.

"You know, as hard as it is to believe," she began lamely. "When I was on the road, I missed you. As terrible as I was to you, you were the only Lion I ever really connected with. I thought about you when I felt alone. It's silly, I know." She looked away, concentrating on the now darkening sky.

He looked at her sideways and sighed, then chuckled. "It no be silly. We all need some'un ter keep us goin'.... yeh know? Wether it be a frien' or an enemy.. some'un yeh love or some'un yeh think yeh 'ate." He shrugged his shoulders softly, he was feeling more relaxed as he chatted with Mahoka.
"So wha' did ya see on these journies o'yers?"

"Oh, many things. Waterholes, oasis's, vast plains of endless sand. There were a lot of strange animals I'd never seen before and can't even begin to describe. One of the most bizzare things, though, was watching prey and predator alike gathering around a waterhole to drink. But, I suppose that was their only source of water. Even enemies have to work together sometimes," She let out a small breath as the stars began to appear, smiling to herself.
"They're beautiful, aren't they? The stars, I mean." She gestured her head to the sky, silently asking him to follow her gaze.

Asi looked up and watched the little twinkling lights as he listened to her words, thinking on them. His eyes landed on one of the newer stars, it was almost an intense blue color. He loved thinking that it was Ari's star. "Aye, sometimes they do." He repeated, half aware to what he was saying. Enemies and Allies alike, drinking from the same wateringhole.
His ears flickered slightly, his tail moving back and forth. "Aye.... I suppose they be beautiful... bu' they 'old sadness in these lands. A'least... fer me they do." He murmered honestly. Stars were the signs of dead queens and kings, were they not?
