So what do your parents say about you playing guitar? What do they think about you possibly "making it big?"
My mom isn't so supportive(actually, she's not supportive at all, all she does is b!@#$ about the noise and why I can't play more "soft rock" crap on the local "soft rock radio station"), mainly because she doesn't like the music I play and my dad makes no comment but he knows I'm working at it...
It's fine if they said nothing at all, but what really got me was that my mom told me that I had no talent on it and that really pissed me off seeing that I work so hard on it. Doesn't even want me to go professional either! Grr... Doesn't even want to support me in trying to "make my dreams come true." According to her, I'm "normal. You have no talent, you're not smart, you can't do anything, so you're better off doing normal things."(direct quote)
That pisses me off so much... I can already imagine what I'm going to say in the "Thanks to:" notes in the album booklet in the future: "Thanks to all of my friends who supported me and the band, but no thanks to my unsupportive mom." >/ I'll shove it in her face too, that's how pissed off I get about this... But enough about me, what about you guys? >.<

My mom's never been supportive or against anything I do. neutral
At least you're not getting any mixed messages. This is your test to see how passionate you are. xp

Nairu-river Both of my parents don't really mind me playing much. Same here, I just kind of do it. That's pretty rude about her insulting you and all, though. I'd be pretty mad.

My dads deaf and my mom don't live with me also I think your moms just affraid of you getting hurt or something or thinking it might not happen but your right she should be more supportive about the whole thing and your father should pipe up. I'm not really a good bass player because well I don't play as often as I should. Atleast your working on your guitarist skills, I'm sure you'll make it atleast locally. Also in your thanks thing remember to say something about the GGG lol jk

My parents have told me I'm not good enough to make it on several occasions. It got to me and now I'm going to try and be a doctor. Don't follow this example. Follow your heart.
Actually, my mum would rather I be a writer than a doctor. She's so strange.

my parents "like my music" even though they say it's crap when i listen to it and they don't like how they can't relate to it ...it's neo-classical and my dad listened to opera before football games to calm him down so he should know calssical music also

My parents are pretty supportive of me, even though they don't really understand guitars or the music I play. They get always get quite irritated and confused whenever I have to buy new gear, even if it's just small things like a new tuner or metronome.
I think what your mom said is really awful, there's got be a reason as to why she doesn't support you. Have you tried asking her?

My mom's actually very supportive of anything I do nowadays, so long as it's constructive and I know what I'm doing.
My dad, years ago when he found out I wanted to start learning, was excited as s**t. He'd played in his high school days as well, but quit after a while. He was real into the idea of me taking it up and actually going farther and getting better than he ever did/was. I had asked him if he could buy me an electric guitar so I could start learning, but he said no, and gave me an old shitty acoustic. Little did I know, about a month after I started learning, he was impressed by how fast I was teaching myself and ran out to buy my Telecaster. There was a Tele in his closet for almost 5 months while I was twanging on a shitty acoustic, and I didn't know a damn thing. . .
Anyway, my 'rents are real supportive. Sorry to you mate, if your mom's a douche about it.

I started off with a pretty good electric, and I think I'm doing just fine. I'm sure anyone else would do fine too. Not advanced enough. Is playing an electric harder than playing acoustic? I find that acoustic is a little more challenging. /end rant/
My dad is really supportive. Much like Ash's dad, mine was really excited. He went out and bought be a nice Ibanez Geo($350 one) and a 30 watt Marshall. I think he somehow knew I was gonna continue and turn out good, or else he wouldn't buy me such a nice first rig. My mom was in no way supportive in the beginning. She is now...seeing as I can actually play well and not just strumming out noise. xP
