Somehow I can imagine him with a ferret.
Maybe it comes from the fact that I want one of my own, those little buggers are so mischievious!
So yeah, personality wise and looks-wise, I think it goes well.
And the fact that Temari uses something similar, goes well with that train of thought.

I can't see him with anything else. Turtles fit Rock lee more. Cats fit someone like Ino. Well, that's all just opinion.

Depending on what time in the Manga you're talking about, it would effect the answer.

If you're looking at before the time skip, than logically, Gaara would not have a pet. Being a supporter of death, and enforcing it himself, it wouldn't be logical that he would, himself, support and be the reason for another creature staying alive.

Perhaps, after his encounter with Naruto, and even further along in the Manga, he would maybe change his mind. As he changes his ways, he might take an interest in seeing if he can keep something alive. More than likely, Gaara would probably get a cat. Not because it's some super tough animal, or it's mythical, because it's not. But because a cat is independant, likes to take care of itself, and needs little from others to keep it going. Gaara would probably see the similarities between him and a cat. Cat's are also very intellegent, and even though they are independant, they are willing to give their affection when shown affection in return.

Personally, I don't see how it is rational for Gaara to keep a racoon. They're wild animals, and difficult to tame. Even when they're tame, they still haven't completely lost their animalistic instincts. Pairing him up with a racoon just because of the Tanuki spirit inside of him is like saying all blonds are stupid, and all people who wear black are goths.

Glad you agree. It is kind of rediculous to think that a raccoon as a pet. It's like keeping a puma (when it's just a cub).

I'm not sure if you could really classify him as to what kind of cat though. It would have to at least be a short haired cat, because of where he lives.
