The sun was low in the horizon, giving even the bluest shades a tint of red as the sunlight slanted through the trees. The air was cool, but not so low of a temperature that little malus were pulled back into the den. It was refreshing; and a gentle breeze made the evening twice as wonderful. It was the perfect atmosphere for a little malu pup to practice his killer grins and suave moves on his own reflection in a pond.

Staring down at himself, the pup took a moment to scrutinize his reflection. Taking in the spots on his forehead, and a severe lack of horn nubs - Oric frowned and furrowed his brow, despaired by the lack of similiar attributes to his father. He shook his head before pulling a come hither grin, studying his own expression as he tried to mimic his father's. The pup was engrossed in himself, though he occasionally looked around to be sure no one was watching him.

Scraping bark from a few trees for the sheer fun of it, Gustave thought only of the days to come. He wondered if any of his pups would sport the antlers he was attacking the plant with. That would be nice, wouldn't it? Little boys with a large rack to teach the hobby of marking to. It really asn't a territorial act, as it would be for most horned creatures; it was more of a way to releive stress and boredom. Clanking the antlers one last time on the now bark-bare surface, he turned round towards the path he had been walking along. It lead to a part of the brooke, a part he had yet to go to. Thirst set in very quickly, causing an almost subconcious movement towards the trickling sound. After a few moments of walking, the trail opened up to the bank of the meak little stream. It was enough for a nice drink, however, and the male hardley hesitated to trot into the cool water to quench his thirst.

After several large laps, Gustave licked his lips in satsifaction and pulled his head up. To his light surprise, he was not alone; a youngster was admiring his reflection in the mirror like liquid. He smirked, wondering where such a young thing would pick up such self-love. Of course, a healthy self esteem was not a bad thing. His interests perked, the adult waded slowly towards the tan little male, waiting to be noticed.

ooc Bleh. Sorry it sucks. I have a cold and it's destroying my muse.

The pup cast a killer grin at the smooth surface of the water, waggling an eyebrow somewhat awkwardly though he imagined to a female it might look rather suave. When the clear view was shattered by a parade of ripples, the pup's eyes widened as his gaze flung upwards for a source. Had a fish jumped and he'd missed it? Was Starbuck sneaking up on him again? Had one of his siblings stumbled upon him? Oric was only worried about Starbuck making fun of him, as she could be pretty ruthless, but he'd recover easily enough. As far as anyone else, he didn't really care. He supposed his father would merely smile, nod and continue onward in approval. His mother might drag him back to the den, but she let him be for the most part.

Instead, his gaze fell upon the swirly coat of a malu male wading towards him. The male sported horns and broad wings, but it was the horns that caught Oric's attention. He glanced at his own marred reflection, lacking any hope of such a splendor. Fluttering his small, cherub wings, the pup hauled himself to his feet before speaking, "Hey." He considered the situation awkwardly for a moment, unused to speaking with grownups before he opted to introduce himself off the bat, "I'm Oric!"

He watched the little one with a smirk firmly planted on his maw, not sure why he was waggling his brows and grinning like that. Perhaps there was a girl? He fought back a chuckle, wondering if Midori and he would have a little male like this tan boy. That could provide hours of amusement for him, as he taugh his little one the ways of the flirty jokester. Back to the here and now, however, perhaps a little fatherly practice could be done? "Nice to meet you, Oric." He bowed his antlers lightly in a respectable greeting. "I'm Gustave. Were you practicing for a lovely lady?" There was a playful twinkle in his eye as he said it, not really meaning to poke fun at Oric, but at least make light of it. He wouldn't deny he hadn't done the same thing as a youngster, and so he shouldn't condemn others for doing it. Besides, looking at it from an adult's point of view, it was rather cute.

For a moment, Oric had the grace too look bashful at the mention of his practicing, but soon after the apparent embarrassment evaporated and not even the hint of a blush was left behind. Honestly, the expression had been for show and the pup did so without thinking. He knew when it was polite to appear abashed and was so for a brief moment. Sporting a lop-sided grin, he shrugged, "No one in particular. Just practicin'." He nodded as well, once again letting his eyes dart enviously to the rack of antlers before he looked the male square in the face. He continued on the same topic with a little pause, "Nice to meet you." Here was the pause, "My mom said I shouldn't be practicing such things. That it comes naturally enough to me, but I should be a nice boy anyway." He frowned slightly, "But I figure I can be a nice boy and still have some suave moves." Once again, the grin returned. He had stumbled over the word 'suave' but appeared not to notice as was the way of pups.

The male listened intently for a few moments, his brows raised in interest. If anything could be said for Oric, it was that he had a rather nice personality. He'd even venture so far as to magnetic. By the time that pup was his age, he'd have the ladies crawling on him. Maybe he would fall into a fairy tale love story, as Gustave had so unexpectedly done. Perhaps he would even play with Midori's future litter? Stepping out of the little stream and onto the bank the tan pup was plopped on, he shook off his paws some what vainly and sat in the cool dirt, glad to be in the shade. "Of course you can. After all, how would you get her any grandpups without them? That's what those mama types always want, anyway." He flashed a million dollar smirk, remembering fondly how his mother used to fuss that she would never get any grand pups from him, and that she clearly deserved them for putting up with the winged male for so long.

Oric was greatly enjoying his conversation with the male, or atleast he hadn't lost interest yet. The pup really didn't prefer conversation with older malu as it was rare that they spoke to him as an equal. If there was one thing that annoyed Oric, it was being talked down to. Though he by no means flaunted it, the pup was intelligent for his age. He was, however, still a pup, and at the mention of having pups himself, he stood gawking for a moment. He'd never thought about that. Pups usually did follow getting a girl, didn't they? Or atleast, it had in every relationship he'd witnessed. Maybe his kids would turn out like him though, in which case it would be loads of fun. "I don' think my mama wants grandpups much. She doesn't like my practicin' because of my dad." He spoke bluntly, but would say nothing else unless he was asked. He didn't care for being referred to as a "scandal pup", which Gustave didn't seem to think of him just yet.

The adult was growing rather fond of the pup, finding him to be pretty darn mature for his age. For a moment, he wondered if all little ones were really this intellegent, and if he had just never taken the time to notice. He didn't remember much of his younger life, having traveled about with his parents in a sort of numb state of mind until his younger sister had been born, the family moved back to the Temple, and he had stayed behind when they left for their homelands. It was only from that point on that he had vivid memories of his life, which left him with little of his earlier years to brood over. Perhaps he really had been an intellegent little thing. His slightl revere had been broken at the mention of Oric's father, however. What mother wouldn't want their little boy to be like her mate? They must have been an odd couple, the tan lad's parents. Gustave racked his brain for a couple that could possibley fit such a description. It took a while before Vulperomes and his lovely little soap opera had come to mind, and sudden realization struck the swirly male. "So long as you are an honest male, your mother has nothing to worry about." He did not hate the foxy male, of course, he only disliked his way of thinking. Gustave had been brought up to respect females for all they were, and if he were to ever leave Midori, which he certainly would not do of his own free will, he would surely notify her before having another litter.

He intuitively knew when the male recognized the young pup's father; it was just something he had gotten used to people realising. But when he did come to that conclusion, Gustave surprised Oric when his tone didn't change towards the pup and the conversation simply continued on with a bit more understanding. A lop-sided smile once again claimed the pup's features as he shrugged, "I think I'm honest enough. Mama just worries I look up to Dad too much, but I'll be good." He nodded in reassurance, more so to the mother that wasn't there than to the male before him.

"Well, it's not all that bad to look up to the guy. He is your dad, after all." He supposed that he had looked up to his own father when he was a pup, though he wasn't all that sure. His father could be a bit... boring. He did, however, hope that his own pups could look up to him the way that Oric so liked his father. It was amusing, at least to the antlered creature, that the pup looked more like his mother, yet favored his father. Perhaps his pups would be greener in color? Time could only tell. "As long as you're an honest boy, you can get far." He smiled warmly, wondering for a moment if some would consider him honest. He never lied, most especially to Midori, so he hoped he could be considered a respectable male. "Especially with that killer grin and those suave moves." A wink and a smirk played his features as he said it, but more in a playful way, as opposed to making fun.

There was an obvious tone to the conversation that allowed for an exit, and Oric was sure he was overdue to grace Starbuck or Aurora with his presence. His grin spread to an honest smile as Gustave spoke, however, giving a gentle mix of a giggle and a chuckle - the sound of a growing male, "Who can resist my moves?" He attempted a wink, but it ended up more akin to a grimace. Eventually, it would smooth to a marvelous routine, but as a pup he was still improving. Nodding his head in somesort of a bow, he spoke clearly, "It was a pleasure to meet you, Gustave, but I should prob'ly head off to find my sister and her friend. They're prob'ly lost without me."

taking his cue, Gustave stood to stretch out his cramped legs. He was far more fond of movement than sitting during conversation, but had taken to the habit of going with whatever the other wanted to do. Unfortunatley, this meant his muscles were left to get tense and achey until he could free them from under his weight. He hid a smirk at the pup's attempt, but knew that one day, he'd be quite the sight. "Ah yes, you shouldn't keep them waiting." He bowed his own head as well, showing respect to Oric, even though he was his senior. "The pleasure was mine. I'll see you around." Hopfully with my own little ones, he silently added. He could easily see himself seeking out the younger male for help when it was his shift to watch his children.

Though Oric didn't share the male's exact thoughts, he did hope that the male before him had pups one day. He would make a good father, possibly better than his own. But if Oric did know Gustave's thoughts, he would have agreed to assist in watching the future brood. As it was, however, the tan pup smiled broadly before standing and running up the bank. Calling over his shoulder, "See you later, alligator!" Who knew where he'd picked up such a saying, but it seemed appropriate as the pup disappeared into the brush.

"In a while, crocodile." Where that had come from, Gustave surely did not know. It just... seemed like the right thing to say. With a shurg, he turned back the other way and walked down the cool bank with a slight bounce in his step. His first real encounter with a pup was under his belt, and a new confidence was bustling in his chest. If he could handle a conversation with Oric, he was sure he could at least care for his own pups. Of course, Midori would be there to help him, as a mother always was, and he would be there with her for every step of the way. How exciting, he mused, hat new life could come to the Temple very soon.
