So I've gotten about 15 PM's about my signature in the past month. A lot of people need clarification about what "choosing life" means, I guess its a really complicated idea stare

But today I had two people contact me to tell me I was wrong. One did so through AIM, which I found very odd, though this person was rather polite and then told me that he was personally pro-life and politically pro-choice, and he argued in the forums meerly to argue.

However the second person, whom I'm still "debating" with... really frusterates me.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Here's the "conversation" so far:

Him: Im sorry I dont get your Sig.
Are you for life or death?
You abort or care for?

Me: I'm for choice, I personally chose life.

And btw being pro-choice isn't pro-death.

Him: I just dont see the reasoning behind killing the unborn. I mean there are couples who cant even give birth and then they hear about people who have abortions and they cry... I aint making this up I know 5 people mostly women and 1 guy who cant do a thing.

Me: Well then they can adopt.

Him: Wouldnt it be easier for people instead of damaging themselves through abortion to find people who cant have babys and give it to them, legaly I mean.

Me: Abortion is far less damaging than actual pregnancy and childbirth, a woman is twelve times less likely to be harmed from abortion than from childbirth.

And there are plenty of children waiting to be adopted already. Why make more?

Him: Ok then. Those figures have been proven wrong. You are 3times higher to die of abortion then child birth if I remember corectly. Also with child birth it comes out easier and by its own force technically, during abortion they have to use tools that they normaly wouldnt have to use. My friends aunt died of iternal bleeding from her abortion. Other friend of my father is on depression meds because it tore her in half. both literaly and figerativly.

Me: Show me where you got your figures.

There is a 0.3% instance of women having complications due to abortion that leads to hospitalization. That comes from medical texts. Please prove that any woman has died from a legally performed abortion within the past ten or twenty years.

The majority of abortions are performed by taking a pill that forces a woman's period. There is no surgical intervetion so it would be impossible for women to bleed to death. And again, no LEGALLY performed abortion would result in a woman bleeding to death, and if it does, your friend should sue whatever doctor performed her aunt's abortion.

And there are no studies linking abortion and depression. If you father's friend is depressed over her abortion, she probably wasn't prepared for it, which is her problem, and shouldn't be allowed to dictate the laws governing everyone else.

Him: Well all the book and papers and other documents where in a hospital back where I use to live. I moved out here a couple months ago and I highly doubt I could ever call up and ask for personal documents. Technically I never even touched them. I read the first page of the stuff and it horrified me. The stuff the doctors never tell because it would ruin the study and ban it. SO no pay check for them.

Me: Well why not do some research on the topic? I'd suggest Wikipedia, because it's neither pro-life or pro-choice, just facts.

If you've never actually looked at any documents about aboriton, how would you profess to know how "horrifing" it is? Thats really not fair.

Him: wikepedia is not worth my time. It is a site for anyone
to post anything. I have answers.com and a few other
sites I use, but I do see where you came from. I have
and I havnt. I looked at the frong page of the doctors
doc and it made me never want to see or hear aboutit.

Me: Well here is what www.answers.com says about abortion:

The CDC reported that in 1992, the last year for which data on abortionrelated deaths were available, only twenty-seven women died of abortion-related causes, ten due to induced abortions, seventeen to spontaneous abortions, and none to illegal abortions. This is a case-fatality rate for legal induced abortions of 0.7 per 100,000 legal induced abortions, a lower fatality rate than for pregnancies. (In 1992, the maternal mortality rate was 7.8 per 100,000 live births.) Injuries and illness, both physical and emotional, are also rare. Deaths and other adverse consequences are more likely to occur when women are unable to obtain abortions legally and attempt to induce abortions themselves or turn to providers outside the conventional medical care system.

Him:So the real question is to believe a doc, internet, or all those docters who came to me in school or other things during my life are wrong or telling the truth? IN the end the gov lies to much and will do anything to protect is a** so we cant really believe in anything if you are into governmental things ya know?

Me: Ok, well here's a list of medical texts that asnwers.com used to create that article :
snip because I don't have to proove it to you guys, lol
The government dosn't affect medical studies, sorry. Anyways, the current leaders in the government are against abortion. So if the goverment could just lie and cover up real information about abortion, wouldn't all studies say that every woman who has an abortion will die?

Him: That itself is not true. It has to lie about it so woman will get
it for the money really. THe higher up gov may hate it, but
they really cant do a thing. I mean our president (even though
he is a complete idiot) hates it and cant do a thing...

Me: Can you rephrase this? I don't understand.

Him:Our president (if you are american, no offence if not)
does not agree with abortion, but he cant touch it. People
have rotted the name of it and made it to seem like a new
revolutionary thing to help people. When the dirty truth
deep and down into the papers of the doctors is that it
hurts people more than we know. The only problem is
we can not prove it for the simple reason is they dont
let cameras into the abortionary room anymore. Also
abortion is just a safe blanket for people. They are trying
to say that condoms dont cut it anymore so just ******** come in for a quicky.

Me: Here's a newsflash, condoms don't always work. I got pregnant and my boyfriend used a condom every time. stare

And another odd fact. Two years ago, one of my closest friends had an abortion. She went to Planned Parenthood and got a vaginal suppository and used it.

She didn't die, bleed abnormally, get sick, and she's not currently depressed. Explain that please.

seriously what the hell?

Yeah people have PMed me about my sig before. Usually it's about my artwork that I put in it or something. They either compliment me on my skills or ask me to draw them something.

I've never put anything too political in my sig before though so no, no one has ever PMed me about it. If you don't like people PMing you about it you can always add a little "No random PMs" note in there.

If someone is questioning why you 'choose' to remain pregnant then they really have some issues with definitions. Have you tried defining the word 'choice' for them? I have this weird feeling the peson you are debating with thinks pro-choice automatically means pro-abortion. Perhaps explain the differences between pro-life, pro-choice, and pro-abortion?

EDIT: Ok he is a total moron. Hannibal Lecter got to him and obviously ate half his brain... xp

While I haven't gotten any PMs yet about the guild banner I have in there, I have gotten PMs from people that were like, "Yay you didn't kill your baby".

I was all, WTF? I don't kill babies. Neither do abortions. And I certainly didn't choose to not have an abortion simply to satisfy someone else. If I got pregnant again now, I'd likely abort for a plethora of reasons. neutral

I'll never understand the assumption though that if you're pro-choice you'll automatically be getting abortions (sometimes just for fun, too!). Durr. The whole idea of CHOICE is being able to CHOOSE to keep or not to keep according to what's right for you.

I almost feel bad for the pro-life side. They tend to attract more absolute idiots. D:

I will always be respectful of people who PM me about our banner-at first. This guy you are arguing with it just an a*****e who isn't even reading and absorbing what you're giving him...you can't just take medical facts and say it's a lie because it doesn't agree with your opinion! At this point, with this particular person, I would say "well thanks for the great debate and have a nice life! Please don't PM me further" Then I would stick to that and delete any messages he sent me, simply because he is almost harrassing you with his inquests. If after a few deleted messages he kept sending them, I would warn him that you are about to report him for harrassment and if he still doesn't stop-do it! Report him for harrassment! Sorry to say that but to me this guy is a little strange and creepy...

Generally speaking I simply point out some facts to people and give them some things to consider...most people who PM me have been willing to listen/read what I have to give them. And I use the same methods you have been, just give them straight facts, that way it can't just be my opinion if there's medical knowledge backing it up. But if they get rude/creepy, like this guy, I end the conversations immediately!!
