Yakuti went about his usual patrol with an unusual bounce in his step. He had been on an emotional rollercoaster for the past couple days, but it all worked out in the end. First his all time high, followed quickly by shame, disgrace, and pretty much as low as he could get. Now, he had resolved things with his mate, and was loving life again.

What could go wrong?

If he wasn't trying to be quiet to avoid attracting attention, he might have started singing, but no, he couldn't risk being heard by a lion, or even more than one lion. Since he started training, he was very able to hold his own against a lion, but he wasn't so sure about two or more.

Rune, like nearly every morning, was meandering his way through the bones and decay of the graveyard. He'd made his home near the invisible boundaries that marked the entering of of Mafa's territory and the ending of his own, although he rarely ever paid much attention to it.

Those beady black eyes of his remained peeled for any sign of movements as he snuck silently, or rather as silently as possible with the limp Mafa had given him, into the very same area that he often found himself sneaking into. His days had become habited with this, and he hardly knew of any better ways to spend his time than trying to find Mafa. He had matters to discuss. Thus far he'd managed to steer clear of her clan's members.. although this success was to be short lived.

While he continued to fumble through the center of the graveyard, a slow sort of movement caught the corner of his eye, and within seconds he found himself behind a bit of rock. True, he was a sort of brown color, and his mane was an even lighter tan, but if he'd gone thus far unnoticed then hopefully he would stay that way. At a second glance, Rune quickly fixated upon the very blue colored hyena, who was luckily walking away.

Curiosity peaked, considering that he'd never seen this particular color before nor could he ever recall seeing this particular hyena. Quietly he began to follow, eyes narrowing while he watched.

Yakuti continued to walk, unaware of the lion that was following him, but not for long. The lion didn't know that his patrol was over, and he would be turning around to go home in a couple seconds.

He swished his tail and did a quick about-face, finding himself staring at a large lion. For a moment, he did nothing, completely shocked by the fact that he hadn't noticed the beast before.

Once it began to sink in, he growled, partially out of frustration with himself, but mostly at the intruder.

"Why were you following me? Forget that, why are you even in the graveyard?" He snarled, already starting to circle the brown lion. "Lions have no place here, this is hyena territory."

Rune found it entertaining that he'd caught this hyena by such surprise. Certainly took him long enough to figure out that someone was following.. and considering that it took him until he turned around..? Obviously this hyena wasn't very good at being aware of his surroundings. At least, that's how Rune took it.

Even so, as Yakuti turned and growled, the large adult found no hardships in keeping calm. He'd been used to worse when he met with Mafa. Although a brow couldn't help but quirk as the smaller animal spoke, ignoring answering the piece about following. "..I live here," He stated bluntly, perhaps mocking the stupidity of the hyena's first question. "Oooh, you mean in /hyena/ territory. I see," He commented with a snerk, his tail swinging back and forth idoly.

"You have no business knowing why I'm here." He added lightly, although continued without a single growl or snarl. "But since you seem so damn keen to know. I have business to settle with my little Maf-kins," The name he'd nicknamed Mafa had come about from several other meetings, but perhaps Yakuti would take the name a bit more personal. It was always spoken a bit sarcastically, but it amused the adult so.

With a large sigh, the male continued to speak. "Quit circling, you look stupid." He mentioned, rolling his eyes while he sat, sounding clearly irritated. Again, he was used to this sort of behavior because of Mafa, considering that this was a particular trademark of hers. What was it with hyenas and circling? Psh.

Yakuti's temper flared, he lived here? One of those stupid lions who thought they could intrude on their territory and get away with it... It disgusted him.

"Oh really? Are you one of the Maziko? I'd be glad to do away with you no matter your answer." He growled. This lion obviously underestimated him, he was stronger than he looked, and when he lost his temper, it wasn't a pretty sight.

"Don't order me around, lion." He snapped, but stopped circling anyway, "And who is Maf-kins? Surely not Mafa, if you had met up with her, I doubt you'd be alive." He laughed, "No matter, I'll take care of you myself, your kind has no right to be here."

Yes, Yakuti intended to kill this lion, or at least injure him, but first he wanted answers, this one, unfortunately, didn't seem to be one to scare easily. Pity, it was more fun to watch them panic.

"Not a fan of my clan. I come around whenever I damn please. And I'll order you around as much as I want," Rune grumbled, eyes narrowing. Did this hyena honstly think he was better than him?

"Oh? I couldn't have met her and still be alive? Hmn. Then why'm I here? I'm obviously dead. You seein' things? Mmn.. never a good sign. Well then, if I'm really dead then I'm obviously not here, and you're obviously seeing things. So for the sake of your sanity I suggest you run along home and leave me to what I came for," He snerked, sniggering as he began to move forward.

"Oh, and yes, it /is/ Mafa. There's only one. And good luck. Even Mafa couldn't get rid of me." This stupid hyena wasn't worth his time. He followed any orders given to him and didn't quite.. look like anyone who he needed to speak with. Therefore, Rune would continue in his way.

"Perhaps you will, but it would not be wise." Yakuti growled. He was losing his patience with this lion, he couldn't take it much longer.

"If you are dead then I shall still have the pleasure of tormenting your poor soul who has wandered across my path." He barked angrilly, tensing up as the lion moved forward.

With that, Yakuti quickly sprang at him, jaws partially open and ready to snap down on which ever part of the lion then touched first. The time for words was over, the lion was quite done mocking him, and Yakuti was quite done taking such talk.

"You make it sound like you're the only one who shouldn't be messed with," Rune commented rudely, a quiet growl added in the background. This stupid hyena was completely full of himself, and the male didn't particularly take a liking to it.

"And my soul isn't exactly poor, but whatever floats your boat," He added lightly, still moving forward with his back turned against Yakuti. Rune had assumed that the hyena wouldn't attack outright, but apparently he'd assumed wrongly. His body suddenly sank a bit with the amount of weight forced against his backside, and his reaction boiled.

With a growl in pain and anger, Rune whipped his head, eyes focusing on that blue colored figure that'd managed to latch onto his back. Lips curled up in a crazed sort of snarl with a simple phrase of, "GET.THE HELL.OFF."

His jaw snapped forward at Yakuti, grabbing at any part he could get his mouth on. If he caught anything, he'd pull his head backward, whether it caused more damage to himself or not, in order to get the stupid thing off.

Yakuti felt the lion's flesh and quickly clamped his jaws on it, tasting some blood in his mouth. He was on the lions back, always a good place to be in a fight. He held on with his mouth and flattened his ears against his skull, if his mouth hadn't been occupied, he would have laughed. But alas, it was, so he didn't.

He shook his head from side to side violently, attempting to tear at the lion's back, his sharp teeth were deep in the muscles, he felt as if nothing could stop him from killing his first lion.

Just then, he felt his foreleg caught in another set of jaws, a low growl erupted from his throat, but he didn't let go, despite the blood flowing freely into the beast's mouth, and he felt himself being pulled on. The lion's jaws felt like they would soon snap his leg, but he wasn't about to let go of his quarry, if he was coming off, so was the substantial chunk of flesh he held in his jaws.

Rune growled louder, biting down harder while continuing to tug at the hyena's leg even more. If it hadn't snapped already, hopefully it'd be at least decently injured to the point where if the male actually got the hyena off his back, he wouldn't manage to move very well. Hopefully. It was a pity that that was /all/ he'd managed to snap at. And it was a pity that it wasn't Yakuti's neck. That would've been more fun.

Out of fear for losing a piece of his backside, Rune dismissed Yakuti's leg, letting go rather quickly as his head whirled, eyeing the surroundings quickly. Thankfully this terrain was riddled with large rocks and sharp bones, and, after deciding he'd located the sharpest and most sturdy object he could find, Rune quickly made a tear for it. Turning, Runai threw himself, shoving the top area of his back, which also included Yakuti, toward the sharp stone. His attempt was to body slam it, meanwhile hopefully smashing Yakuti between himself and this large rock. So long as the stupid animal held on, at least.

To Yakuti's relief, he felt Rune let go before his leg snapped, but that didn't stop it from hurting. It hung limp against the lion's side, reluctant to move. He only gripped tighter to the lion's back, once again shaking his head violently. When he glanced up he saw that both of them were moving towards a large and sharp looking pile of rocks.

By the time he realized the lion's intent, it was too late to get away, so he held on as long as he could. Soon, however, he felt a stabbing pain along his left side where the rock was, and another on his right where he could have sworn that the blasted lion had broken a rib of his. As much as he didn't want to, he released the lion and let out a whine, the only good news was that when he looked at Rune's back, the area where his bite had been was soaked in blood and rather torn up to boot.

Another bit of hope was that the lion had also gotten cut up a bit from the rock, but at this point he doubted that he would be a match for this lion anymore unless he too had a useless limb and at least one broken rib.

Rune stood silently by the rock after Yakuti had released him, panting quietly with his beady black eyes fixated on the blue colored hyena. His backside was wet with blood and shots of pain continuously shot through his spine, and there was a decent sized cut lining his side from where he'd slammed into the rock. No doubt it'd be also bruised in an hour or so. But in the very least, it seemed he'd be safe from any furthering damage, not to mention Yakuti looked a bit more injured than himself. This came as some sort of satisfaction, considering that it wouldn't take too long for his cuts and bruises to heal, and no serious damage was inflicted. Plus Yakuti hadn't managed to do any more damage than his last bicker with Mafa.

"Hmph. Not a terrible fighter. Got up on my back so I couldn't do much of anything. Great, so long as the victim isn't looking. Picked a pretty crappy environment to pick a fight, though. With all the rocks and junk. Brilliant decision there." He grumbled, shifting his paws while he stood. He hid the pain caused by this particular attack exceedingly well-- an attempt to not show any weakness around this hyena, although he doubted he could keep any act up very long.

"But y'should know better, taking on a lion larger than you." He snerked, kicking a bit of dirt at the other. "Only Mafa is stupid enough for that, but at least she can get away with it."

As Rune moved away, he slumped to the ground, holding his injured leg slightly off the ground, panting heavily.

"What did you expect me to do? 'Hey there mister lion, would you mind if we went to the grasslands so that I can attack you and gain the advantage?' How well do you think that would have worked out?" He gasped, stopping for a breath between every few words. He was about to collapse, and with great effort managed to keep himself from shaking. His entire side was dripping blood, and he felt faint, but kept standing. It would be far worse to faint at this point.

Yakuti wasn't nearly as good at disguising his pain, but he didn't move in the slightest when the dirt was kicked at him. "Well go on then, leave a trail of blood for the rest of us to follow, my comerades will be on your tail before long." He spat, for he knew to what degree the lion was bleeding, and it would be easy to find him unless he got far away fast. At least he could be thankfull for that, even if he wouldn't be able to join the hunt any time soon.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 14, 2007 7:49 am

After his breathing had shallowed a bit, a brow was cocked at Yakuti's statement, meanwhile Rune slowly slipped into an upright laying position with a quiet grumble. He usually would've prefer rolling onto his side, but that didn't seem very likely at the moment.

"Y'still could've like.. moved around or something. Sticking on one spot is lame, c'mon." the male commented, offhandedly, but still. While Yakuti began speaking once again, Rune had meanwhile turned his head, seemingly trying to lick at the painful, torn up bit on his back. "Damn.. I can't even get at it. Stupid," He growled, although quickly turned his attention on the blue hyena once again with his next statement. "Really. You're.. comrades? Yea. You're in no position to be threatening me at the moment, blue. And it doesn't look like you'll be hobbling around very fast to let everyone know that there's an intruder. But believe me. The only one who's claws I'll ever die by? They'll be Mafa's. Not some stupid gang of hyenas. And who ever said I was actually /leaving/?" This last bit was spoken with a bit of a smirk, although it faded rather quickly.

Rune still had his business with Mafa, and he wasn't about to leave just because some lackie had jumped him. He could still move, so there was no problem.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that what I was doing was lame, I'll try to spice it up a bit next time." He sneered, his breath slowing and slowly coming down to the normal rate.

"That's me, the stupid hyena who DOESN'T let his enemies tend to their wounds." He said, still oozing sarcasm. This lion didn't seem to get the concept that Yakuti wasn't going to be friendly at him, he had tried to tear him appart for pity's sake! Was he really going to try to position his attacks so that the wounds could be cared for?

Yakuti had gotten around efficiently on three legs before, but this was different. In the past, it had been his rear legs, this time there was an odd feeling of being about to fall forward he had to deal with when he stood, let alone walked. He snarled, this lion was making things difficult for him.

"For all you know, Mafa will be in that stupid gang of hyenas." He shook his head, "Fine, stay here and wait for them, why should I care?"
