I am almost done the game so I guess it's not really important since I made it thought almost the entire game with out having to use one but how do you use Quickenings I used them and I don't think they did anything it just said time out. . . What am I supposed to do?

You need to press the R2 button as fast as you can. When you have more people with Quickenings, X, Triangle, Square, or Circle will show up. Concentrate more on pushing the next button then pressing R2 though; be quick with your fingers.
And if you want to link a long chain of Quickenings for a battle, start it on the person who has the most Quickenings on their final one. I don't know how many times I've Quickened a tough monster and end up doing it wrong. sweatdrop
I've done so much fleeing that way...

yay now I know. I am right at the final bosses and I have never used them I justed watned to know I am going around doing all the Hunts and side quests and getting all the magic and best weapons!

Just a tip, quickenings are best used at the end of fights, not at the beginning. It just pisses things off. >_<

My r2 button sticks so whenever I go to randomize it, it never stops, so my quickenings have to be super lucky. Highest combo I got was 15, I was pretty geeked out about it. But to be honest, I went through almost 98% of that game with a good gambit system and pure physical attacks... Maybe I was just raised on the basis of explore and gain xp to level up to the max, but I needed to be nerfed by the end of the game. While I havent tackled Ultima yet, Vayne was a cake walk. whee
