Mashaka was restless.

It was a beautiful, lazy sort of day. The sun was setting, turning the whole world a firey orange as far as the eye could see. It was cool, and a light breeze rustled the grasses, sending insects fleeing into the sky from threats unseen. Mashaka glared as them as they passed his face. One dragonfly even grazed his nose, and he swatted angrily at it though failed to crush it under his paw. He was getting fed up with sitting still. He needed something to do.

He needed to go on the hunt, that's what he needed. But he wasn't even hungry, so that kind of hunt wouldn't do. No, he needed some tail. He needed a girl. Only problem with that was... there didn't seem to be a single girl in sight.

Mashaka sighed angrily and stood. Well, sitting around wasn't going to fix any of his problems, especially not the problem of being sick of sitting still. He might as well, he figured, take a stroll around the grasslands and see what he could see...

The splash of fire on the sky and the rising chirp of crickets was Nuhusi's pleasent wake up call. She smiled a little, feeling her whiskers lift as she slowly let her eyes slide open. She was a creature of the night and sleep time was over. She stretched her front legs forward with a relaxed moan and then sat up, bringing her black form above the tips of the grasses. Her orbs reflected the almost exact color of the sky as she peered around at the landscape. There didn't seem to be anything worth hunting in sight. In all honesty, she hadn't really thought about her location when she had fallen asleep the previous morning. But she did she a lanky shape in the distance. She tilted her head with mild curiousity. Mm...? Perhaps something interesting was going to happen after all.

Mashaka was a bit taken aback when he saw a dark form rising from the grass, like a ghost ship rising from the sea. He halted in his tracks and sunk a little, watching. Perhaps it was some other cheetah, or worse, some big bulky lion, come to userp his territory. Mashaka liked to play bad, but he was weak and cowardly, not much of a fighter at all. The figure, however, did not seem to be advancing; merely taking in it's surroundings. So, dropping low and stalking in, he took a moment to observe the newcomer. As he drew closer, he found the shape to be distinctly female, and grinned. Ah, so it was a leopardess then. Not something Shaka was quite used to, but he was willing to give her a shot. He took a second to quickly groom his white mane before stretching and rising, as nonchalantly as he could manage, from the deep grass. She was still a ways from him yet, and he called out to her.

"Hello!" he hollered. "Pardon me, ma'am, but I don't believe I've seen you 'round these parts before." He strode forward with great confidence as he spoke, smiling softly. "I am called Mashaka, but you make call me anything you like." Here he paused and chuckled a bit at himself. "Can I help you?"

Nuhusi felt her smile widen as she saw it was a male leopard. Well, she was certainly right about getting to be entertained! She eyed him with amusement. It had been a while since she conversed with a cheetah. "I am called Nuhusi," she told him, her voice a musical alto. "Mm....and I don't know what I need asistance with, but you certainly may lend me a paw." Her voice dropped to a silky purr, her orange eyes glittering.

First step up: she didn't flee from him. Indeed, she seemed to be glad at the sight of him and glad of his company. He grinned, now unafraid to show his teeth. This was certainly going well so far... not that he should get his hopes up, he thought.

Oh, but he couldn't help but get his hopes up. She was gorgeous, silky and black like velvet, and her voice was musical. His tail twitched with anticipation until he willed it to be still. He gathered himself together to give his very best bow--not especially graceful, but not clumsy either. A blessing, for him. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Nuhusi," he said with earnesty.

Then she went on, and he quirked a brow. What was the meaning of that? Lend a paw? To what end? This was an unusual reaction, so far as he was concerned. "Lend a paw how, m'dear?" he inquired. If she did want assistance, he was glad to give it... if it would get him somewhere with her...

Nuhusi supposed she could forigve him for not understand her play on words. Sutlties like that weren't for everyone. But she certainly wasn't going to drop her style. He he proved to be too dense for a fun conversation she supposed she could switch to a boring one. "Please, juse Nuhusi," she insisted with amusement and a tilt of her head, "And as far as assisting me...why don't you tell me...?" She offered a smooth, well timed wink.

Well, so much for keeping his cool. Mashaka almost jumped when Nuhusi winked at him. No, it couldn't be this easy. Usually he had to coax a girl, or trick her, or chase her down before he could get anywhere with her. Was this girl really... flirting with him? Already. For a moment, he only stared at her, stunned... and then laughed. He laughed hard, without a mind how insensitive it might sound. He was just shocked. "Wow, really?" he said, still trying to get over his fit of chuckles. He struggled to pull himself together and finally stifled his laughter, though he still bore an amused smirk. "Forgive me, Miss Nuhusi, but I'm just not used to it being this easy." He looked her over. Oh, yes. He liked this one. He nodded approvingly and shuffled a little closer to her. "You're not like other girls, are you?" he mused. She really wasn't. She was neither stuffy nor foolish, not like all the other girls he'd ever gone after. Yeah, he enjoyed trying to manipulate a girl, like a good puzzle... but this was interesting too. New. Exciting. He was thrilled.

"Ooo, drop the miss. It's so stuffy," Nuhusi urged him with a flirtacious sticking out of her tongue. She seemed completely unphased by his laungher before. Perhaps she had simply met stranger characters before and it really didn't bother her. "As for that...mm...well I'd like to think I'm a little more fun then most girls," she purred with a grin, moving to stand on all paws with a smooth motion. She seemed an expert in body language, for he movements were just right, showing off the best of her form and the sheen of her coat.

Mashaka couldn't be more amazed. Finally, a girl he could be himself with! A girl he didn't have to pretend with, or force politeness with. He hung his head and shook it in amusement. "Sorry, I'm used to having to sling around pleasantries with most girls, Nuhusi," he murmured. He shook out his mane, letting it fall loose, as he was most comfortable with. It felt good not to have to keep up appearances for once. He chuckled as she spoke and he looked her over once more wistfully (and she was a wonder to look at). "Oh, I'm sure you're fun. You look like fun." He beamed wickedly and flicked his eyebrows, "And I'm looking to play." He went to stand next to her and looked her dead in the eyes, connecting, plugging into her. This was certainly moving quickly...

Nuhusi grinned, meeting his look with equal intensity, though her's was a little more calm and amused. "Oh really?" She purred, her voice and attractive throb. "But are you any good at this kind of game...?" she teased with a small pout, her eyes trailing over him shamelessly. Speed was no issue with her. She lived life in the moment, that was her style. She prefered it this way, for she got far more out of life and always seemed to find something exciting to do. And this was definately one of those things.

Mashaka's heart fluttered and his eyes widened a little. There was a great thrill in eyes meeting eyes, like the meeting of souls... though Mashaka suspected that he'd lost his soul long ago, a belief he carried with him always. He was having too much fun right now to think so darkly, though. He just couldn't believe she was playing right along... or that he was playing along with her. She had started it, after all. "I'm certainly well practiced," he declared confidently. His eyelids lowered seductively and he questioned her, "Tell me, though, Nuhusi, how good are you with games?" It was like they were already playing a game, now. A playful yet dangerous game of testing each other's boundaries. Although it seemed each of them, or at least Mashaka, either had no boundaries, or had boundaries that were far and hard to reach. It would be interesting.

Nuhusi smiled knowingly. "You have noooo idea," she thrummed in response, "Ever played in a tree before?" Her eyes glittered with mischief. She only asked because she knew she had played plenty of games in trees. Leopards were quite good at it, actually. It was in their nature, since they spent so much time up in the branches. Her tail curled attractively as she turned to look at him over her shoulder with a grin.

Mashaka shivered a little inside but managed to do well to keep it hidden. Only his long, slender tail shuddered. "Fresh out of ideas, I'm afraid, but maybe you could give me one," he quipped. Then she asked, and he exhaled sharply, as though deflating, before bursting into another fit of surprised chuckles. "In a tree?" he inquired. "Honey, I don't think I could climb a tree if I wanted to." He showed her a paw as an illustrative point. "Claws... ill-equipped for climbing." He met her gaze with a glance of mischeif, though. "Not that I can't put them to good use," he concluded. Just another test of boundaries...

Nuhusi rolled her eyes comfortably, "I wans't saying you climb a tree, hon. I simply meant to get across...just how talented I really am." She rolled her shoulders in a smooth, seductive shrug that was almost too casual. "As for your...special abilities pertaining to your claws...I do believe that would be interesting to...mm...have you demonstrate," she smiled, her light colored whiskers rising as she did so.

Mashaka winced internally as Nuhusi rolled her eyes at him. Something about her sharp wit and knack for mentally leaving Mashaka behind in the dust left him feeling slightly emasculated. However, he wasn't about to be discoraged now. He liked a challenge; she was just a different kind of challenge. "Talented, I'll say," he responded. "It's a wonder you don't fall out."

He tried his best not to look shocked when she requested a demonstration of his skill with his claws. His eyes may have widened for a split second, but he quickly eased back into a cool, dark, sultry demeanor. His tail swayed idly behind him and he turned his eyes to space. "Oh, I don't know," he drawled, "Do you think you're ready for that sort of game?" His eyes shot back at her. "I'd hate to be at an unfair advantage. That wouldn't be sporting of me, would it?" His expression was delightedly wicked.
