Alone at last, the fire-wielder guided the boy into an unused room. He'd expressed no more than the need to talk to the youth, leaving the true meaning for bringing him here to fall on Demyx's ears alone. The red-head had been mulling over precisely what to say for quite some time. Simply telling the youth he was inadequate for the job would only upset him, and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

If anyone else had wanted to have a private conversation with him, Demyx would have been freaked out. But...this was -Axel-, a close friend of his! So the fire-wielder's desire to hold a conversation wasn't too alarming. Maybe he just wanted to catch up more or something.
Wings folded nicely on his back and tail swishing along, the blonde happily followed his friend into the empty room. There was a bit of a bounce in his step, the young sitarist clearly excited to be here with Axel.
Once the door was shut behind them and it was clear they were alone, Demyx turned to Axel with perked ears.
"So....what was it you wanted?"

Axel drew in a deep breath, his eyes taking the boy's measure as he tried to determine the manner in which his suggestion would be recieved. "I wanted to congratulate you, Dem," the red-head lied smoothly. "...second in command is a big step for you."

Demyx broke into a wide grin, the boy struggling not to bounce in place.
"Isn't it neat?! I was so surprised when Saix asked me to be it...."
He was talking fast, excitement flowing through him.
"I mean I'm kinda scared by it too, but...I guess I'll get over it right?"

"Of course you will, the red-head chuckled. "I bet you'll make a good leader now that you have the chance..." He put an emphasis on the word, hoping Demyx would pick up on the idea that being second in command came with many responsibilities.

"..l-leader?"
Demyx tilted his head, eyeing Axel.
"I'm not leader...Saix is. He just has me around to help..."
Or, at least, that's how Demyx thought it worked. Second in command to him wasn't much of a leader position. It was just a position created to help their superior.

"Dem..do you want everyone to walk all over you again? You have to show them you're second in command. You have to prove that you can do it." Axel smiled, poking the younger audio's nose. ".....Besides, what about when Saix leaves the castle? You're in charge of all of us then. I'm sure you can do it." His tone was confident, his gaze never leaving the youth as he sought a reaction.

"Huh???"
Demyx stared at Axel, the youth looking horrified at the way this conversation was going.
"M-m-me? L-lead?! B-but S-Saix is leader, and he isn't g-g-g-going anywhere!"
Ears flat, the youth gave a pitiful whine. All traces of position were gone, this was good old Demyx the fire-wielder was speaking to.

"You have to face the possiblity that he might go on a mission of his own sometime, Dem. And don't you won't to prove to our new," Axel struggled with the word a moment,"..Superior..that he made a good choice?"

"Well of c-c-course....b-but I don't want to lead! I d-dunno how to lead!"
Fidgeting now, Demyx was looking more and more nervous as the conversation progressed. This was SO not what he wanted to sign up for when Saix asked him to take this position.

"But it's your job now, Dem." Axel scratched his head, eyes staring off into the distance as though he were deep in thought. "Hey! I could teach you how to be a good leader," he exclaimed as though the idea had just come to him. "Er...if you want me to..."

"You'd d-do that?"
Falling right into Axel's plans, Demyx seemed to perk up at Axel's offer.
"I'd l-love you to...if you d-didn't mind..."
Nevermind the fact that he could order Axel to teach him.

"I'd be happy to, Dem." Perfect! It had gone exactly the way he'd planned it. Now he'd be able to teach the youth how to stand up to Saix, how to think for himself and question orders. It'd be a difficult task for sure, but they could do it....he hoped.

Tail now giving an excited swish, Demyx seemed to pull out of his nervousness a bit. The fire-wielder would be an excellent teacher for him, or so he thought, and despite any fear he felt he was sure the lessons would go well.
The sitarist spread his wings, giving the feathery appendages a stretch as he waited for the first of Axel's lessons to begin.

"First we need a place to train. We can't stay in the castle," Axel's brow furrowed, his tail swishing a bit as he considered their options. "Hmm. The Underworld's pretty secluded..."
