This is a thread I created for people to discuss different soloing techniques. Anything from you're favorite scales, keys, wacko tricks, lets here them.
I'll start xd Sometimes I'll take Tenor/Alto Sax, Trumpet, and Clarinet jazz solos and play them on guitar. Alot of the time they fit really well into songs I write. Don't bug me about Solo theft either, I have no shame twisted !
Anyone else?

Ah, so in other words, you transcribe wind and brass instruments to guitar, then? 3nodding
And, I've always had a liking for harmonic minor scales, meself. ^^

I generally don't use Minor or Harmonic minor scales.. I stick with the Pent, Minor Pent, and blues scales most of the time... I like the keys of E and Bb for my soloing... And most of my songs are in one of those keys.
When my guitar playings stuck in a rut i t oo will pick up my sax and play out some jazzy stuff, then transpose those ideas over to guitar.

If it sounds good, Imma play it. I see no need to know a junk load of scales and stuff like that. I just play what sounds good. I like flying along the fret board. As for tricks, I don't really have any besides to try and keep my fingers as veritical on the fret board as possible. >.<

Well, personally, i love the minor pentatonic scale because I play a lot of blues style stuff. It's also good if you're writing hard rock or even metal sometimes. I've been fooling around with major pentatonic scales recently, too. Wacko tricks? Hmmmm I'm not sure. I have a video of me going pretty wacko on an E minor pentatonic scale, IM me if you wanna see. I'm sure a couple of you have already.

I have yet to write a solo. I've practiced scales but never took the time to memorize them. I have a book with a bunch of moveable scales on my bookshelf. I should probably dust it off and start practicing.

SoudaiSatsujin I know I'm really good at bends and power chodrs. ^_^ I don't think it takes to much time to be good at power chords though. Actually, I think it takes more time than it seems to actually hold the chords right and make sure all the strings sound right. sweatdrop

Actually, I think it takes more time than it seems to actually hold the chords right and make sure all the strings sound right. sweatdrop Depends on how you finger them. I personally use my index finger to hit the bass/root note, then my ring finger to hit the other note (or two, in most cases). I know a couple people that use their ring and pinky fingers to grab the two othernotes, and index to grab the root. As for the strings sounding right, thats just a matter of intonation. If your talking about string buss, thats just a matter of pressign odwn hard enough. Moveable barre chords are technically harder, but fundamentally the same, as power chords (after all, power chords were derived from barre chords)

It's pretty funny to see a kid who looks like a metal head and holding a Jackson whale through Pent Minor and Blues Scales. LOL Wow I must look like a fool blaugh ! I love it

People tell me I look like either a nerd or a hard rocker, but whenever I head into the guitar shop I saddle up on the nearest 335 style hollowbody and rip up some blues and boogie xD It must be a sight, esp. with all my 70's stoner rocker hair in my face.

Well, and this seems hoky, even to me.
When I'm making a solo, I play the song I'm workin' on, and when my solo point comes, I close my eyes, and just "Flow" So to speak. I write it down, and that's the end of it. Wow, that sounds dumb....^^;

I don't know any scales or solos.. but does anyone have some tips for picking up really fast speed while playing? I am going to try to start learning some scales soon.. I am hoping they improve my speed on guitar and ability to play solos.
I get really annoyed that I can't pick fast enough. I have been alternate picking (up down up down strokes) more though and I think that's definately helping me. And I'm trying to build up some strength in my pinky finger..

In theory it allows you to pick twice as fast as a person the same skill level picking one way.
