Lately I've been having an urge to do something about pets; something to educate the public about them somehow, and the other night I reached an epiphany. I'm going to create a pamphlet on puppy mills and catteries and pass them out outside of a commercial pet store inside our local mall, better known as Pass Pets. Here is some information on what I plan to do:

Create a small leaflet/pamphlet with photos of cats and dogs in breeding farms, including facts, statistics and info on these operations. The information will come from as reliable a source as possible, and I'm avoiding at all costs information from PETA. I'll look to reliable sources on the internet, as well as our local library and interviews with humane societies, possibly. I will also include a message to urge people to adopt from shelters, pointing out the need these animals have more than those in pet shops, and phone numbers and addresses of local shelters.

I have more than enough backing; both my friends and friends of my sister would be willing to join in in the passing out of this information, as well as educating themselves to answer any questions someone might have.

The questions I ask you is:
In this pamphlet, do you think I should make use of shocking, but not so graphic images or stick to text? I plan on using both, but any suggestions on images that might garner the most attention?

I'm not quite sure if the mall has a no soliciting rule or not; though I'm almost positive they do, considering it's a public place. Do you think the peaceful handing out of these pamphlets would cause us to be arrested or thrown out? Should I ask the mall ahead of time if it would be alright, or do you think that's taking too much of a risk asking them about it ahead of time so that they'll be alert?

My dad has connections with a radio station and has offered to inform them about the day if and when it comes, gaining some public attention. Do you think this is a good idea or not?

This is the first time I've done something like this, so I'm being a little cautious and curious at the same time, so any information is greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any sources or reading material I should check out, please let me know. ^^ Thanks!

If you use pics, go with something that shows the situation but don't go all out Peta-style. I've found that some people just don't want to know about it if it's too gory.
Facts and statistics are great [crucial, really] but I find that people empathise with individuals a lot more than they emphasise with numbers. So perhaps relate to specific animals that were rescued out of those sorts of situations.
If they can relate to, say, Molly the Maltese puppy from the shelter who came out of a bad situation but was eventually found a good home, then that may just give all the other animals that come from similar situations an identity that they can more easily relate to. And prove that the situation can be made better with their help. Ye see what I mean?

And it's very important that the steps that they can take to help are both easy and beneficial to the people themselves. People love to make a positive impact whilst getting something in return. 3nodding
Make it more beneficial to the people to support shelters than to buy from stores.

There are a lot of people that care about animals and want to stop all of these horrable things from happening, it's disgusting to watch some of those shows about animals that have been abused and neglected

and the people that don't care aren't going to listen no matter what you do about it ... which is sad

but if you want to do it, that's the main thing, and all of the means of giving out the panphlets and whatnot is great ... the mall would probably like to be informed, and well, you don't want things too gory, but you don't want to cut out information, but keep the audience captivated.. you know?

The largest things I can think of:

#1: Do not get too negative. People standing on the streets shouting nothing but negativity completely turns me off. It comes across more as hatred. Facts are more important.

#2: Make certain that where you are standing is not the shop's property. Otherwise, they could have you arrested. Actually, even raising too much of a ruckus could get you in trouble for distrubing the peace, harrassment, etc. Use caution.
