"Whaaaa!" squealed Ally as she spread the clothes she was hiding behind and showed her face.
Giving a gasp of pseudo-surprise (for her feet had been sticking out under the clothes!) Koosheeka poked the girl in the stomach and lifted her off of the shelf, "Get out of there, silly, otherwise one day you may really get lost in there." Ally giggled and clapped her hands together as Koosheeka placed her in the shopping cart-turned-turned-rocketship. Pitch, who had grown a little more adept in the ways of maneuvering made a small jump from the shelf to beside Alouette.
Whistling a simple tune, for Koosh had found out Ally had an appreciation for any sort of melody, Koosheeka wandered through the baby store. Ally was her first baby and her house was not, by any stretch of the imagination, baby ready.

On a typical day, Finn woke up to the sound of Maya playing in the makeshift crib he'd made in his room. She'd sit up and grab the first toy she found, and proceed to entertain herself for awhile, letting him sleep. Today though, had been a different story. Today she woke up hungry and crying. And again, unhappy. Finn was pretty sure she didn't like mornings. But he also thought she'd enjoy where they were going today--the mall. She needed some new clothes, and Finn had been saving a bit of money here and there to get her something besides the green dress in which she arrived.
Carrier strapped to his chest, they walked into the baby store, and Finn found his way to the girl's clothing section, hoping that Maya would want to pick out her own clothes. She was an infant, sure, but she had opinions already, and he was sure that her clothing opinions were strong.

New at this 'shopping for babies thing' Koosh decided that Ally would be the pilot for the day and pick out what she liked. And Ally, who was ever the sport, did just so. She pointed or pulled at things that intrigued her, which seemed to be just about every item in the store.
Eyeing the mountain of clothes in the cart Koosh looked at Ally, "so you're telling me you want all of this?" Ally, as if on cue, squealed joyfully.

Maya pointed at things here and there, making happy or unhappy noises as they looked at all the racks of clothing. Mortality inched his way up her wrist, taking a look at the clothing as well. Much of it was cotton, which neither of the pair understood. The dress Maya had come in was all made of silk, and had a soft linen lining..it was high quality silk at that. Finn noticed it was a bit fancy, but didn't think Maya'd object to regular baby clothes.
As he pulled shirts and skirts off of racks, he'd hold them in front of her and let her look at them. If she scowled, he'd put it back. If she smiled, well, that was a keeper. She'd touch each piece of clothing, as if trying to decide if it was good enough for her. Finn thought this was amusing--slightly. He hoped she'd grow out of this unhappy and unkind mood of hers one day.
It was at a rack of dresses that Maya caught sight of two very interesting things: It was the daemon that caught her eye at first--it was rare to see a film-creature. Not many, even Forgotten, had daemons quite like that. "Baaah!" she shouted, trying to get the pale infant's attention. Mort extended himself upward a bit, to get a better view of the trio as they walked through the store. It was a definitely a daemon, he knew.

Sensitive to sound, Ally whipped her head around to see who had screamed such a noise. She didn't know it had been directed at her and when she found the commiter of the cry staring right at her she was honestly surprised. Now it was her turn to stare. He eyes scanned the girl up and down, then the thing wrapped around her wrist. They were people like her, she knew.
"Ally," Koosheeka muttered under her breath. "It's not polite to stare." However now the child was making arm movements, yearning to be closer. Koosh's cheeks a slight hue of pink she obliged not wanting to make a big scene, and pushed the cart toward the baby, who was strapped to a man. Chuckling in a embarrassment Koosh looked at Ally, "Seems our kids have a little fascination for each other."
She was up in the air and Ally was a foot or so under her. Well, that wouldn't do. She continued to reach toward the girl. Pitch, on the other hand stretched out his neck, falling short of the girls feet. And began to sniff the girl.

Finn heard Maya's screech, and looked over to see what she was looking at. If it was something for her to wear, well, he'd probably have to buy it. But it wasn't. It was another little girl, about Maya's age, with floating angel wings and a very pale appearance. The film-creature ambled up on wobbly-looking film legs, and proceeded to smell Maya, much like a dog would.
"Yeah, looks like they're really interested in her...but I'm more interested in your little girl, and her--well, her daemon. I have a feeling they're related somehow. Have you met anyone from the Library yet?" Finn gave Koosh a curious look, and then slapped his forehead with his palm. "Oh, sorry! I'm Finn by the way. I must sound totally creepy right now!" He chuckled, and held out a hand. "Finn Keating. And this is Maya, and Mortality," he finished, pointing to the golden worm wrapped around Maya's wrist.
Maya certainly was interested to see yet another Forgotten like her. She'd been coming across them almost everywhere she and Finn had been as of late. But this one, this one looked like it wanted to touch her. And Maya didn't play those games. She shied away from the white-haired infant, her attempt to smile quickly fading into a frown. It was then that she noticed the film creature at her feet. She didn't like that much either, and began to swing her feet back and forth, careful not to kick the creature, but just to keep it from sniffing her.

A little bewildered by this man's questions, Koosh tried to register it all. Finally he spit out a name and she decided to start from there, "I'm Koosh, that's what people call me," she said, her hand meeting his for a shake. "This is Alouette, this is Pitch," she pointed to the film creature. Retracing what he had said earlier she added, "Yes, I have met one person from the library. A lovely lady named Cressida and her Forgotten Quixana and Courage and," she thought, "did I miss any other questions?"
Frowning, Ally dropped her hands and peered at the girl. She didn't want to come play? But there was so much to discover! Pitch, on the other hand, was not one adept with hints and rather lucky. His neck was tired and he retracted the negatives, leaving the girl at peace. Trying a different method Ally wrapped her arms around Pitch and offered, "Pihhhh!" It had been a skill she had acquired with the aforementioned Xana and Courage.

Ooh, he'd been totally weird and awkward. Oops. Finn just shrugged his shoulders, trying to avoid the blush coming to his cheeks. Now he felt like he'd attacked the poor woman with questions! "Lovely to meet you Koosh. And you too Alouette and Pitch," he said, waving to the baby and daemon. "They are a unique pair, aren't they?" he asked, admiring the little girl and the film creature. "I seem to be coming across a lot of Forgotten and their parents these days."
Maya felt relieved when Ally dropped her hands and was no longer reaching out for her. Sure, she'd like to get to know this little girl, but only if she didn't get too close. Maya's personal bubble seemed to be larger than most, and she never liked it when people touched her. By now, she'd gotten used to Finn, but that was all. Mortality was the only one she allowed to touch her at all times, or any time he wanted.
But as the girl backed away and threw her arms around her daemon, Maya cocked her head to the side, looking at her curiously. What did she mean? Was "Pihhhh!" the name of her daemon?
"Whaaa?" she asked, doing her best to be nice.

"Are you?" Asked Koosh intrigued, "so there are quite a few of Forgotten out there?" The awkward phase was over and this man seemed really quite nice! Answering the other question Koosh added, "Ally is fairly normal for a girl out of a book," she looked at Pitch, "but he's definitely been a surprise! Maya's quite lovely." Freckles always made a girl look ten times cuter, or so was Koosh's reasoning who was a freckle face herself.
Yay! She (who Ally had almost labeled as anti social) responded. Catching an air of question Ally replied, "Pihhh!" Short, sweet, and it even got accompanied by the point of her finger at what, to some, might have resembled his head.

"Yeah, seems like there are a ton of them. I mean, I met two in the same place on one day, and then another at the grocery store. And now, I'm meeting you! I guess there are more than a few of us guardians..." Finn nodded. "Maya was a surprise too. A big surprise. She's been pretty normal so far, so I'm glad for that...Ally is cute too. And her daemon is something else!"
Looks like Maya was right. Pihhh was her daemon after all! "Maaah Pihhh!" It was something like 'Hello, nice to meet you.' She figured she should introduce Mortality as well, but it was hard to pronounce his name. She tried her best, but what came out was quite different. "Mowa tee!" she exclaimed, pointing at the golden worm with the green glowing eyes.

"Tell me about it," Koosh said looking at Pitch, "I have no idea what he's all about. He doesn't eat, sniffs when he looks like he doesn't even have a nose." Chuckling, she patted Ally on the head and added as an afterthought, "I have a feeling this is going to be quite the adventure."
"Ooooaaaweeeeeee!" Repeated Alouette butchering the already butchered word. Clapping she pointed at the snake thing. She patted on Pitch and pointed to Mortality again and, as if introducing the two said again, "Pihh, moaweee!" An infant taking it upon herself for introductions without even being able to speak... it was most certainly a sight worth seeing.

"Well, maybe there's a nose there somewhere," he smiled, giving Pitch a second glance. "You just never know with these magical creatures." Finn thought back to the House, and his travel to the Library. "Yeah, I felt like I went on a crazy adventure just to get Maya. I can't even imagine what living with her for years would be like. I'm just hoping she doesn't have any crazy powers!"
Mortality chuckled as he heard Alouette pronounce his name. Maya had done an okay job, but this kid...well, he wasn't her daemon after all. At least she got part of it right. He was highly amused by the introduction to Pitch. Hello, he intoned to the film creature. Lovely to meet you Pitch. I am Mortality--Mort if you like. He grinned at the creature, green eyes sparkling.
Maya just watched the introductions, amused. Now that she'd been around the film creature more, he seemed harmless enough. She wanted to examine him further, but didn't want to intrude on his space. Perhaps later, if they got along well enough...

"I've got quite the same hope," said Koosh patting Ally on the shoulder. "But I have a feeling that that might just be dreaming," she chuckled. "So are you here to get yourself equipped for a baby or do you have some experience in that area?"
Great to meet ya, Mort, responded Pitch, he had been brushing up on this talking thing! He was starting to get antsy now, too much sitting around and not enough scenery change! Pacing on the small space provided by the cart he continued, Been outta the library for long?
Alouette clapped, happy her Pitch was making some friends. Clearing a space on the bench (or pretending to, there really was nothing there), the baby pointed to Maya and grunted, patting the seat beside her.

"Well, we can hope together," he said with a genuine grin. "I have very little experience in the area of babies. I know the basic stuff--how to set up a crib, how to change diapers and feed her...all that stuff. But I haven't bought her any other clothes yet. She's still wearing the same dress she came in. Usually she's annoyed when she gets dirty, so I'm surprised the dress isn't bothering her yet. Unfortunately, little here seems to please her," he said, giving Maya a glance out of the corner of his eye while he looked through baby clothes.
The daemon watched the film creature pace around the cart. He looked antsy. Well, I've been out of the Library for a few months now. Not too long. Are you new around here? He wanted to ask about his body, but decided to wait for awhile to do so. He, unlike Maya, didn't like to offend people.
Maya watched the daemons interact, and was pleased that at least Mort was making friends. As Ally patted the seat next to her and grunted at her, Maya glanced that way, looking to see if there was really enough space on the bench for the both of them. She supposed they could both fit without touching, so Maya climbed into the seat and made sure there was at least a few inches between them. Though it made her uncomfortable to sit that close, the girl didn't seem threatening.

Now leafing through the clothes that Ally had "picked" out Koosheeka replied, "Looks like we're in about the same boat." Placing a puke green jumpsuit back on the rack she continued, "Sure I've done the occasional feeding and burping, but everything after that?" She looked at Ally who was now clapping, happy that her new friend had taken a seat beside her, "It's all new." Placing a couple more odd clothes choices back onto the rack she said, "After the clothes I've got to try to pretend to know the difference in quality between a hundred different cribs that all look the same!"
A week! He exclaimed, now peering at the snake. A veteran, at least seemingly so in this newborn's eyes, there was a sort of awe at the experience this golden snake must have acquired.
