He waited. Fidgety and nervous, despite the fact that she had already accepted and the pair were truely 'together', Gustave was a nervous twit. He was unsure of the setting for their dinner, unsure if she would like it. Earlier in the day, he had left word with her to go to the brooke at early evening as the sky was turning orange, and since then he had been setting up. Two meals had been prepared for each of the malu; a salad and a fish. The two fish were decorated with herbs in the forest around the little brooke, and the salads were made of the native plantlife, including some of his favorites. He could only hope some of her favorites were in the meal, as well. It had taken a few days planning for the menu and the location, but it all fell together the night before when he had wandered about in the twilight. Stumbling across this very location, he had been mystified by the glow of the current and methodic sounds it vibrated off the trees. From as far as he could tell, none of the nightly beasties haunted the area, and the only wild life were turtles, frogs and fish. It was a secluded, peacefully pleasant spot. Not nearly as romantic as the garden, but then again, how could he possibley have topped that?
Sitting, then standing, then sitting once more, he sneezed with excitement. Midori would be there any minute, and he knew he would be instantly calm at her arrival. It was just the way she was, the way she made him. Until then, he was cursed with an annoyingly unfamiliar feel of nervous excitement, and was forced to focus on a skittering insect in the water to try to calm. It was okay, he thought, it was okay. She was perfect, and she wouldn't point out the flaws in his dinner. Then again, she was a jokester, as was he, and she might very well poke holes in his partially deflated tire with a few sarcastic jabs. He could handle that, however. It was the basis of their relationship, after all. If neither of them could handle such humor, they would've ended up hating eachother.
With a sigh and a borad grin, he looked back towards the pathway, awaiting his love. His fleeting moment of doubt was whiped away quickly, and he was back to his old self in the flash of a smirk. All he needed now to be complete was Midori to walk right down that dirt path sporting a million dollar grin.

The maluess was only mildly nervous about this rendevous in a new place with her recently met mate, though the excitement that welled in her belly took over for the most part. Her light step was perhaps the only indication of the bubbling emotion as she made her way towards the aforementioned place. Her scarlet eyes were glittering with a silent smile as she took in the beautiful surroundings - a giggling stream, the gentle croaking of frogs, the whisper of a turtle entering the water. It was certainly no fog-touched garden, but it had it's own sense of romantic charm. As she came around a flowering bush (that had since closed it's blossoms in a plantish slumber), her gaze found that of her swirly-pelted mate. A smile spread her lips as she slipped behind him, "Doesn't someone look nervous?"
Her attention slid to the meal that was spread before her, brows raising as she no doubt missed relishing his surprise at her sudden arrival. Fish and a salad? Oh, a delectable salad, as she recognized a few of the shreds of plantlife he had used. Did she spot berries dashed about for a bit of flavor between the leaves? She hadn't chosen the path, and so had ruined his hopeful entrance, but her delighted expression at the sight of the meal would hopefully make up for it. Midori had learned to regularly shield her expressions, but in the presence of this male, she found she was comfortable enough to let habits slide. "Gustave... it's brilliant."

Expectantly staring at the path, his wings twitching with a nervousness that he was so unaccustomed to, he was honestly frightened that he couldn't see her form. Everything had happened so quickly, he wondered if she found it too fast and dropped him like a sack o' potatos. Wouldn't that be depressing? He wasn't left to think of such things for long, however, as the green maluess popped up behind his back. Every ounce of nervousness and excitement was drained in that very moment, as he turned about to look at her grogeous eyes. "Hey there, beautiful." He smirked and stood, walking over to his little feast, a proud gleam in his eye. The look on her face told him he had done a nice job, but she hadn't even seen the whole splendor of the location yet. The excitement was back again, but this time it was of a different kind. He wanted to tell her what the little brooke looked like when the moon rose and the fog settled, but he didn't want to ruin the surprise.
"I thought you might like it." He grinned proudly, surveying the prepared meal. Quickly, however, he slid out of his ego and motioned towards her fish and salad. "Go ahead and eat, if you'd like, before the turtles catch on and make for the salad." He gave a little chuckle, and then went about mixing up his own salad a bit, as it no longer needed to look like some chef's great concoction. Out of his own eating habits, he crushed a few berries to make a sort of dressing, coating the various leaves in a light layer of juices. He didn't eat yet, however, taken by manners and waiting for Midori to chow down first. He had also decided to let conversation come after the meal, as talking while eating could be a bit... gross in his mind. Unless, of course, his mate wanted to bring something up during the meal. There was one particular topic he wanted to discuss, but that could wait.

[ooc; i'm going to start shortening mine. you certainly don't have to follow, but that way if i end up doing a long one it'll be a fun surprise rather than having to bs things to lengthen them on my part]
Midori smiled at him softly, her head tilted to oneside so that her forelock didn't obscure her brilliant view of him and the meal. Approaching the meal, she settled at the other end so that she could look over it for a few moments. The salad and fish certainly didn't whither beneath her inspection, but even her feigned indifference would be enough to make a naughty pup recant. Looking up to her mate, she smiled suddenly with a laugh, "I can find no faults. I love it, truly. Thank you, Gustave." At his indication, she leaned forward to crush a few of the berries herself, leaving a few as silent bursts of flavor amongst the leaves. She noted his waiting for her to begin and didn't hesitate to take a lingering bite of the leaves, chewing thoughtfully before taking another.

ooc That's totally fine. :3 I only have larger posts towards the beginning while I'm describing the setting and stuff, anyway. x) Plus, I use size ten, so they look a bit bigger than yours even if they aren't. <3
"Thank you for comming." He smiled for a moment, but the hunger over took him and he went for his salad only seconds after she nibbled on hers. It taste far better than he had thought it would, which was a bit surprising, as he had never really prepared many meals in his lifetime. He made very short work of eating the greens, and, still hungry, munched happily on the fish. It was a delicacy he normally didn't get to eat, seafood. Usually, he snacked on the verious fruits and things about the temple at night, with your occasional scrap of meat. He did, after all, live with those who were blood thirsty, and it was on occasion that he was offered a bite of some dead thing they had hunted in the twilight. Fish, however, were not around the temple, and it was very rarely that Gustave ventured out to the brooke from his pack to catch one. Such an annoying business, it was. They were slippery suckers.
It took the male very little time to finish his dinner. He made his way to the water's edge to wash it all down with a few cool laps, and then returned to the spot they had feasted to lie down while he digested. The sun had yet to set, so the pair had some time to kill before the light show started, and what better way to do it than to bring up the one thing that had been on his mind since the two paired up. "If you don't mind, Midori, I'd like to talk to you about something." He smiled up at her, not wanting to crack a joke just yet.

The meal was eaten as quickly as the male, though with the grace and manners accorded to a young maluess. The seafood was a treat, as she hadn't had much of it since she was a pup and her father had enjoyed the sport. When she finished, she ran her long tongue over the parts of her muzzle and lips that she could reach in a slow, contented lick. She watched the male wash down the meal through her scarlet eyes, glancing up at the sun as it made it's way down the horizon. When he lay down, she let her front legs fold beneath her so that she was relaxing as well. Her stomach felt warm against the sunkissed grasses and soothed the food as it settled. When he spoke, she arched a brow before responding, "Of course. What is it, Gustave?"

Hoping he wasn't the only one who had been dreaming of pups the last few days, Gustave made himself comfortable for the possibley long conversation that was to come. It really wasn't just about agreeing on having a litter, it was also about who would look after the little ones at what time and where the den would be and all sorts of minor technicalities. They were, after all, members of different packs. Perhaps they could find a den for the little ones inbetween their homes? That was why this conversation was oh so needed. "I don't know about you, but personally, I've had little pups parading around in my dreams." He grinned, liking the idea of becoming a father. It was, of course, a bit scary, but he felt as ready as he'd ever be.

Not truly knowing what conversation was coming, she mused it was some joke that he had set it up to be so serious. Taking his cue and settling in for a long chat as well, she rolled partially onto one side while keeping her head aloft. She looked a little less regal and more like a lioness contented after a hunt, but nevertheless she remained stunning. When he spoke, both brows rose for a moment at the candidness of his approach before she smiled, "I can't deny that the same pups were gallavanting through my usual dreams as well. With nubs and tiny wings." She poked out at one of his feathers with a paw lazily.

"Ah, well my little ones have all had strikingly red eyes." He smirked, flicking his wing at her outstretched paw. The easiest part of the conversation was over, and it was now time to discuss other things. He hadn't really doubted that she would want a litter, he just didn't know if she was ready or not for such a burden. "I was wondering when you'd like to have a litter?" It was hard not to throw out a sarcastic remark, so hard that he couldn't help himself. "After all, the pregnancy will just kill that sexy figure." He waggled his brows, a smirk planted firmly on his face. If their conversation was going to be serious, he firmly decided that they needed at least a little joke here and there to keep things light and enjoyable.

She snorted, somewhat indignantly but it was cute nevertheless, "This figure will never lose it's sexiness. The roundness will only accentuate other features." Nodding her head curtly, her scarlet eyes shut for a moment before she looked to him again, seriously. Her gaze glittered with the intensity of the question as she thought her answer over in her mind. She didn't want to appear to eager so that he didn't take her seriously, but she didn't want to seem so aloof that he thought she wasn't interested currently. At last she had decided, "I will be ready when you are. But I believe the sooner, the better. I am hardly getting any younger."

He grinned at the remark, having already known there was nothing she could do to that body to loose any ounce of beauty. The little belly bump of pregnancy would even be cute, he mused. with this affectionate thought, he stretched out his neck to press his nose on the top of her head gentley, and then pulled back to continue. "Ah yes, that infamouse biological clock. I think I can hear it ticking..." Gustave couldn't help but poke fun at the classic female woe of 'not getting any younger.' Still in good spirits, he pressed further with the matter. "Well, I'm ready, dear, so long as you are. Just one thing... Where would we make a nice little den? After all, we do belong to different packs." If she truely wished it, he would assist with the den making in her own homeland, though he would prefer somewhere inbetween their own, so as he could stay with the pups easier on his den-watching shifts. A stranger in a pack is never truely appreciated.

The female blinked slowly when he touched her head with his nose, almost batting her red eyes when they reopened. Smiling at him, she shrugged gently, "How can you not? It's like a bee buzzing in my ears with rhythmic beats of it's wings." She shook her head before looking around them. There was no obvious place in the area they lay in now, and she frowned before turning her attention back to him. She knew that he would inevitably allow her to choose the den sight, but she would like to please him as well. "I am no frequent visitor to my own pack. There was a hollow beneath a bush in that garden you took me too; where I slept that night. I could easily turn it into a den. The ground was soft and the roots were thick and wide enough apart."

Gustave, too, looked around, as if assiting her in locating a good den site. He wasn't any good at such skills, however, and came up with nothing. His gaze fell back on his mate, waiting patiently for her to come up with something, as he assumed she would. Luckily for him, he had found himself an intellegent girl who could easily handle picking a den site by herself. Her suggest stirred up some warm and fuzzies inside him, as it was the place they had decided they were meant to be. How fitting was that, eh? "I like that idea very much." He smiled, wondering why he hadn't thought of that. "I go to my pack amost daily to sleep, but no one will miss me much if I start bunking in the garden. I'll just have to give all my girlfriends a few days notice, you understand." A playful glint gleamed in his eyes as he said it, confident that Midori knew well how much he loved her.

She rolled her eyes at the mention of his other girlfriends, smiling nevertheless as she quipped, "Typical male waiting til the last minute. I've already let my suitors know to hold off for awhile. They understood, of course, but will no doubt be waiting like vultures on the sidelines." Smiling almost innocently, she tilted her head to one side and peered at the male around her forelock. Scarlet eyes vibrant as they studied him, her smile never faded, "I have a lifelong friend who would be willing to help us with babysitting. He's not exactly a fathering type, but when the pups grow older he would be a willing playmate."

"Ah, well, as long as they understood. Cranky, immature suitors are never fun." He smiled warmly, glad that he had found himself a maluess who knew what a joke was and how to react to one. Imagine if he had found a stuffy brood with absolutely no sense of humor? Then again, what whould cause an attraction there; nothing. So, either way, he figured he would have stumbled along a mate fit to toss around jokes with, though he would always admit that he was incredibley lucky it had been Midori he had stumbled along. "That would be good. Pups need playmates, after all." With the most current litters already growing older, it would not be completely unreasonable to think that there would be few of their litter's age about for them to play with.
His mind leapt to numbers, somewhat dreamily, as he counted heads in his 'deam litter', the one that sported brilliant red eyes and little antler nubs. In that particular group, there were two babes, twins that were nearly identical. He wasn't certain if he would prefer that number over any other though, as he had never given it much thought until now. "How many do you think you want, love?"
