A stupid question I know, let me explain..
My brother and I were watching The Phantom of the Opera movie on TV. This was the first time he saw the movie so he asks. "Where's the Persian"? I anwsred.. "Hes not in it.." He says back.. "WHAT?! Well why the hell not!?" I Reply.. "I dunno.." really Upset, he says.. "Man I would Gladly trade in that stupid brass monkey for The Persian, he's important, what does the Monkey do? NOTHING!!"
This conversation has brought up a question I would like to ask you...
If you were making you own Phatom of the Opera Play/Broadway/Movie and there was just enough money to either include the character The Persian, or buy the prop The Brass monkey, which one would you choose...
Any anwser is welcomed and dont worry, no one will get drowned for it! whee

Well it's more accurate to have the Persian since he is the one who knows Erik and initially helps Raoul in the end. Mme. Giry was just a box keeper and Webber had to make her the ballet instructor and Persian-substitute. Then again some people have said they can't imagine the Persian having a musical number. XD

The Persian has a musical number in the Ken Hill show, although for some reason he's a woman.

I choose...Winslow!
...Well, you said any choice is welcome.
On topic, though, I'd choose the Persian. He's cool. Ugly-a** monkeys cannot carry on conversations with one, nor can they help out in a fix. Plus the Persian was such an important role. The ugly-a** monkey just isn't. Webber threw it in because...he's Webber and likes butchering Phantom stories. Either way, the monkey didn't add anything to the story. The Persian just might have made the chase scene bearable.

IIRC, the monkey was included as an homage to the Persian. Thus why it's wearing Persian robes. I'm not sure if the monkey bit is a slur against the middle-eastern or what. *shrugs*
But yeah, I'd be afraid of what Webber would have done with the actual Persian in the story... Made him really meladramatic and set him up a secondary romance with him and Meg or something... And then Schmucky probably would have added some creepy Erik/Daroga implications... It's better for all if he remains vaguely referenced in a prop. That way we get to keep the classic, 'The Phantom is playing with his monkey' joke.

Hooolords. The Persian, of course. The monkey was only mediocre. The Persian is some people's favorite character. I see Johnny Depp as a good The Persian. (Based solely on the fact that I like Johnny Depp and The Persian.)

Augh, damn you! You stole my smiley! I was so the first one to use that seriously, hence the reason people call it "the Thorny smiley". *Pout* Morphississ Winslow huh, how truly unique! 3nodding Nah, you just haven't met Roze yet. Or a few of the other Winslow fans I've come upon over time.
