Soft gray eyes cracked with the sun, white lids pulling back as soft white lashes curled upward and let in the faint glow in the distance. Gentle white fur rippled over muscles in her withers as the tiny mare stood slowly and stared at it. It was probably one of the most magnificent things she'd seen next to the light blue stallion that was still laying asleep at her hooves.

Grinning gently and dragging one of her large wings over the skin of his belly playfully, Death danced away before she realized... she was cold. Why was she cold?

Blinking in slight confusion, the mare tilted her head up and saw snow blanketing everything within view. She hadn't seen it before because she'd been blind with the sight of the sunrise and of Khairi, but there was snow... everywhere. Lifting an ebony hoof and placing it down in the snow gently before lifting back up quietly and admiring the melted snow around where her hoof had touched.

"Khairi..." She whispered out to him, her gray eyes dancing in the colors of the sunrise as they melded over her snowy fur, making her look pink and orange as it swirled. She wasn't just one color anymore, she was the abscence of color, she was every color but... and the dawn had made it so. The dawn.... it was dawn wasn't it?

But was it just a simple dawn? No... this dawn belonged simply to them, the rest of the world asleep even then, but for so many other reasons. There were too many for her to count why it was theirs.

"Khairi.. wake up love." She called over again, her ethereal voice dancing through the air as it left her delicate muzzle. A thought hit her mind all at once and the mare tried to refrain from giggling as she used her wings for something they'd never been used for before.

As the snowball sailed through the air and hit his side she giggled and danced over towards the little creek, waiting for him in a way.

Unfortunantly for Khairi, his awakening wasn't quite as peaceful. He hadn't stirred when Death rose from his side, but the touch of her wing - and the absence of her heat - brought him a little closer to consciousness. He shivered and curled tighter against the cold.

That was when the snowball thudded firmly against his side.

With a start the stallion awoke and jerked to his feet, eyes searching for the perpetrator. Instead of Ohanzee (as he suspected) his glare found the small white mare.

Well, she would have been white if it weren't for the light of dawn that played across her coat. A smile spread across his muzzle - so it really hadn't been a dream. Not a one-night cure wrought of desperation. She really was here.

And throwing snowballs at him.

"Hey, that's not fair!" He snorted and shook out his coat. Bit of snow still stuck to the darkened spot where her snowball had hit. "Some of us don't have wings, you know."

He trotted up to her and nuzzled her. His eyes glittered mischeviously. "Of course, that won't hold me back." With a flick of one front hoof he send a wave of snow spraying across the mare's front legs.

"Use everything at your disposal love." Death said with a cheeky wink as she nuzzled his neck and danced to the side. The fires of the sun lit up her white fur like a phoenix' feathers and her ebony mane and tail sucked up the warmth from the sun as she draped a wing over him for a short moment. "Besides, you don't need wings, you could always keep up with me."

Her ghostly voice floated over to him as she used her tail to melt the snow and thwap it against his sky blue side. Eyes dancing, she flicked her tail in the air and fluttered her wings, dancing across the snow on light hooves to the creek.

Where her legs slipped from under her on the ice and the mare landed on her chest, kneck and chin flat to the ground and rump in the air. Both of her wings laid flat on their undersides as she slid slightly across the icy creek with a bit of shock.

Thanks to coming from the south the little mare had never actually seen a snowfall before and so didn't really know what ice was. Her struggles to get both of her ebony hooves under her tiny body again looked almost comical, one hoof getting flat on the ice before another slid in an opposite direction and sent her spiraling further down the creek. It wasn't until her side banged against the frozen waterfall that she managed to get any leverage to stand.

"Speed has nothing to do with throwing snowballs." Khairi grinned anyways and watched as the sun's first rays played across the whitened landscape.

Khairi himself was from the mountains, and snow was far from a novelty to him. So he didn't realize how much he knew and understood about it - and how much other's didn't. He was slightly suprised when Death headed for the creek, but he was fairly certain she must know what she was doing. Instead of commenting on the frozen creek, he stretched and shook the last clinging tendrils of sleep from his mind.

No matter how many time he saw it, the first snowfall was always magical. But he'd never had a mate to share the beauty with...

SMACK!

With a start Khairi jerked his head up, a brief flash of concern constricting his throat. But Death was already in the process of pulling herself to her feet, and the blue stallion was forced to stand by helplessly while she struggled. He knew what would happen if he stepped out on that ice...

A smile quirked the corner of his mouth.

She looked alright...

That was it: Khairi let out a whoop of laughter, unable to hold it in any longer. It was unfair, but he couldn't help it - after all, he remembered his first mishap on the ice. Still laughing, he trotted as close to the mare as he could.

"You oka-"

THUD.

Too close. Laughter vanished instantly, replaced with an almost comical look of shock as the stallion found himself (ironically) in the same predicament as his mate.

Glancing over with soft gray eyes as Khairi fell, Death raised an eyebrow at him and use her wings to float up off the ice and over to the ground again.

"Hmmm... Maybe I should stay away from ice then, if someone like 'you' falls on the ice there has to be a reason for it eh?" Death winked and tossed a snowball at his rump out of retalliation for his laughter before floating from the ground again.

She fluttered over to him and grabbed his tail, using her wings to flap at the wind and drag him by his tail over to solid ground, ignoring any cries of pain he might have had. He was the one that was laughing at her after all, so she figured that he deserved it.

"Shouldn't you know where you're walking lover?" She smiled at him and landed on the ground. "You are the one that grew up here neh?"

Growing a little more bold and sticking her nose into his mane, Death inhaled deeply and flopped down on the ground beside him mockingly with a faint giggle. "You smell just like the mountain rivers."

Khairi grimaced as his mate grabbed his tail, but he didn't complain. After all, he -had- been the one foolish enough to get to close to the creek. But he'd just wantd to help!

"Anyone can fall." He muttered, but he knew what she said was true. He should have known better! Some example he was setting. A wry smile crept across his muzzle as Death released his tail and stepped back.

"Well, if you had just used your wings in the first place, I wouldn't have been tempted out on the ice like that." Khairi grinned and gathered his legs underneath him. With a snort and a shake he ridded himself of any clinging snow and turned to face the white mare. "And yes, I -did- grow up here. But it's been a while since I wintered here."

Strange. -He- couldn't smell anything on him. Following her example, he nuzzled her and took a deep breath. Whatever was lacking on him, she sure made up for it! "You smell... lovely. Like..." Khairi cast about for the right words.

"Like... how this morning feels." He grinned a little sheepishly at the lame metaphor. "Fresh, clean, and pure."
