anyone here interested at all in Jazz?
well, I'm in the Jazz band playing 1st and 2nd trombone (don't ask how or domo will eat you. domokun )
the best songs we play are "Pick Up The Pieces" "Sing Sing Sing" "Jump Jive 'n Wail" and "IN The Mood"
there are some crazy clarinet solos in "Sing Sing Sing" and "Pick Up The Pieces" the other drum major plays them. (he normally plays tenner sax for jazz band, but we make him play his clarinet, for he is a clarinet GOD)
and you know what? the only song with any kind of trombone anything was "the Christmas Song" (Sings: chestnuts roasting on an open fire....)
the conductor even forgets to ask me and the other trombone if we're coming to preformances. crying
*it's like that in Marching and concert band too. they never tune me and the loner-boner. ever. it's lame*
anyhoo...i digress.
anyone got a favorite Jazz song to play, or even just to listen to?
mine are the ones i mentioned earlyer, and "2,4,1" by Real Big Fish

I never done Jazz and probably won't ever, cuz my instrument is a squeeky thing that wants to be recognized heh....*plays the violin razz * But I like Jazz 'lots!

Me too! whee I like jazz, it is very fun to listen to, but I have never played it. I could probably play jazz piano, I suppose, but I would not know where to find the music.

Kiba_Inu I never done Jazz and probably won't ever, cuz my instrument is a squeeky thing that wants to be recognized heh....*plays the violin razz * But I like Jazz 'lots! i've heard Jazz Violin, actually. it was freekishly awesome. haha. ^_^ i've also heard Jazz tuba. (the other trombone in our jazz band is multi-talented. he plays everything from the clarinet to the mandolin. it's awesome. ^_^)

This is why violas win. 8D Anyone heard of Turtle Island String Quartet? They play jazz, latin, pop rock, etc. My quartet is playing one of their songs, called "Skylife," which is very jazzy. It's so much fun. Improv and all that. Bowslaps (whacking your bow on the srings while muting them with your left hand) and drumming on the wood make good percussive noises... it's just good fun. There are many jazz and pop violins and other classical instruments. Electric violins were invented for a reason. smile

dude! i've heard of them. ^_^
i love instruments you wouldent expect to play jazz stuff, playing jazz stuff! it makes me a happy cookie. ^_^

Since I have this Anstramble thing coming up I was thinking on doing some violin/viola debut pieces with my other two groupees but we decided to do La Bamba

i play 1st trombone in our jazz band too...i actually have all county jazz band this weekend...
played in a ska band for a while, loads of fun, but unfortunately the rest of the guys are older then me and they went off to college.
I'm a huge fan of Pick Up The Pieces and In the Mood and Sing, Sing, Sing as well...I swing dance alot so that could be why i'm a fan of swing lol.

I liek Jazz though since I play the flute I can't ever be in one but yeah Ilike to watch or Jazz bands at school perform and practice. I liek their music but I don't know what the names of the songs are. And there are a lot of good looking guys in our Jazz bands, if only I chose a heavier insturment than the flute.

I love the old cracky jazz...especially when it's a complete chaos, it's really cool to listen to. I love jazz... The jazz band at my college is phenomenal... The last concert they played "Night in Tunisia", "Dolphin Dance", "Wave", "Beach Bum Blues" (song created by the band), "Cotton Tail", "Maiden Voyage", "Killer Joe", and "Cantalope Island"... All of them were great, including all of the improv... I love improv. Last concert they played a couple swing pieces... I love swing. Especially "It Don't Mean a Thing".
I've sang jazz (assorted pieces, but "Crazy (for Loving You)" and "Beyond the Sea" are the only ones that stick out in my mind)... and played jazz on the piano... Not as well as Jerry plays (in that jazz band), but I've played it...
