This isn't a question for me, but for a friend. She is 18 and has been fooling around with her boyfriend. He has not actually penetrated her, but they have been 'dry-humping' or whatever it is. Anyways, shes recently shown all the signs of pregnancy. Not only that, but the at home pregnancy test I convinced her to take came up postive. She refuses to go to the doctor because "I didn't have sex so I can't be pregnant." I've heard that it is possible (though rare) to get pregnant without penetration. Does anyone know this for sure? If she is pregnant (which all the signs say that she is), she needs to make some life changes (stop drinking) and go to the doctor.

If there has been semen anywhere near her v****a, she can be pregnant. Penetration or not. As long as semen is wet, it's alive.
Also, tests very rarely show a 'false' positive because you need the hormone to trigger them. So she either is pregnant or was. You're much more likely to get a false negative on a test.
Tell her to get her head out of the sand and get to a doctor now. surprised Denial won't make it go away or untrue.

She needs to go see a doctor if even just to prove the test wrong. Its the safest thing you can do, your friend should do it as soon as possible though. good luck to her.

Making a second post just in case you saw the first one and won't check agian. [Had to go peek on my son, so I didn't get to write all I wanted to the first time. sweatdrop ]
I left the last post before adding why it's important she not be in denial. If she is pregnant and wants to keep the baby, early detection and prenatal care are vital for both of their health. If she doesn't want to keep the baby and chooses to abort, the earlier she has it done, the less it will cost her. The longer she waits, the more it will cost. If she waits too long, it will no longer be an option.
If nothing else, tell her it can't hurt to go into a clinic and get a test done by them, just to be sure and for peace of mind she isn't pregnant. ;] I'm not sure if Planned Parenthood does free tests, but on base here, you can go into the clinics and get a free urine test done.
I'm sure she's scared, but it's worse not knowing. sad

My husband seems to think that the day we concieved, he did it without penetration. blaugh He says he's 100% sure of the exact day it happened too! We were both naked, and "made contact" but there was no intercourse. Plus, it was on the day I was supposedly ovulating-I had counted my days just out of curiousity, and then two weeks later--BAM! Positive test! ^_^
Maybe my testimony will help to further prove that you can indeed get pregnant without penetration! 3nodding

Yes you can get pregnant without penetration. Although like you said it is very rare but it does happen. She needs to be completely sure by going to the doctor so if she is she won't harm the baby in any way.

What everyone has said is true. I just wanted to add that "dry humping" is how I got my daughter ^-^ It can happen, it does happen, and it's actually more common than people think.

Like everyone else said, yes, if the semen is wet and it is near the v****a, there is the possibility of pregnancy regardless of penetration.
Your friend NEEDS to go to the doctor! My friend was "pregnant" 3 times, she had the symptoms and the at home pregnancy tests said she was pregnant, the doctor did tests and they said the same thing. The only problem is, all 3 times she was NOT pregnant. She got to 3 months twice, the other time she only made it to 2 months. It was a problem with her uterus, it wouldnt release the uterin lining for some reason and it tricked her body into thinking it was pregnant, so it released the hormones since the uterin lining wasnt releasing hence why the tests came up positive. At 3 months (both times) her stomach started to stiffen and she started to get a lump, doctor said for her size she shouldnt be showing so early, and both times she was rushed to the hospital within a week of the 3 month mark because of bleeding, come to find out there way no baby, it was a blockage. After the 3rd time they did a DNC (I think thats what its called) and didnt have problems fter that. Now she is pregnant with a little boy and due in August. So yeah, get your friend to the doctor, because if it ISNT pregnancy, then there is most likely something else going on because your body doesnt release those hormones for no reason!

That is just crazy I never hear of that. She should go see a doctor just to be on the safe side of things.

This thread was started long enough ago that if the girl was pregnant, she would have already had the baby by now. Therefore, I am locking this thread.
