Omoa had been incredibly bored lately. It seemed like the only time she got to see Yakuti anymore was during patrols, and he had informed her that she was to start doing it on her own soon. The blue hyena was never in the den anymore, he was always out for long periods of time, only to return much too tired to do anything but rest until he left again.

The ratel pup sighed and paced around the den, all alone. Her purple eyes scanned the den for a moment, eyeing the pile of bones near where Yakuti slept for a moment before turning to the nearest wall and placing her front paws on it.

"Mmmm... Dig?" She asked herself, pondering for a moment. "Dig!" She squeaked, extending her tiny claws and beginning to shovel out bits of dirt, the makings of her very own tunnel.

"Dig dig dig!!!"

Shira's ears perked when she heard the words of a little ratel that she was oh too familiar with. Omoa had gotten that urge hadn't she? What can she do, she could not possibly tunnel all over the Elephant Graveyard....right? Shira peeked inside teh den, mindful of the trap that Yakuti had laid during it's making, and spotted the tail of the rodent. Quickly, and rather playfully, grabbed it and pulled her out, setting her down before her.

"Omoa, what had Yakuti told you about digging?" She paused and thought. "Wait, he never did tell you not to do anything...."

She stared down at it for a moment. She was starting to get bigger and that meant she would become a much more valued member of the pack. To many she was a slave, to Yakuti a value friend, to her...company.

"Omoa, have you seen the blue one around? I have not seen him at all lately, barely in my rounds. What is he up too.."

She pondered for a moment remembering Jamaa's visit here in the graveyard. That fool, she was so tempted to follow him through the tunnel and kill him just for all he did to her. With a sigh, she relaxed a bit. Maybe Yakuti took what she told him to heart. He would not be loved until he was stronger, just enough to keep her down. She would never willingly mate so he will have to do it by force if he wanted it.

"Dig dig dig..." Omoa murmured to herself as she continued into the wall.

"Eep!" She squeaked as she was suddenly pulled out of her hole. "Shira!" She said, almost sternly, "No dig?" She asked, cocking her head to the side slightly and observing her with her violet eyes.

"Not seen 'Kuti much... Comes home tired." She said sadly, plopping herself down into a sitting position. The little ratel had to crane her neck slightly to look at the much larger hyena, "What 'Kuti doing?"

Omoa shook her head, "Why 'Kuti gone, Shira?"

With another sigh she eased herself down and looked at her. There was no point in hiding it, she knew everything Yakuti and she knew. She knew their secrets, anything that went on in this den, she knew about it. The little bugger could be a good spy if she put her mind to it. Tunneling and listning. Should swing the idea by Yakuti to relay to Mafa.

"Well, Yakuti is out working on his body. He is preparing for something everyone is. You should tunnel a lot more but make sure that no one sees you. Anyways, Yakuti is," she paused and looked outside to make sure no one was passing by. "He is working on getting my love. I guess he is trying harder than I thought if he doesn't make time for you. Blame me for his absence, rodent."

She looked down to the ratel again. She probably didn't even know what she meant or was even talking about. Predictable.

"If Yakuti cannot mate with me, his genetic line will die and he will be heartbroken to say the least." she probably didn't ge tthat either. "He will be very sad if he does not do this."

"Dig more? Okay!" Omoa said happily. She would gladly dig tunnels in her spare time, it would give her something to do when Yakuti couldn't 'play' with her.

"...Huh?" Omoa asked, a look of pure confusion at all the long words Shira had used. Her look only intensified when Shira continued, only when she used simple words did the ratel understand.

"Oh! No want 'Kuti sad." She said, shaking her head a little overenthusiastically. "He get strong? 'Kuti already strong, silly!" Omoa giggled, wagging her stubby tail happily. Shira could be fun when she wasn't grumpy.

"No, he isn't. He must be stronger. Until he is able to keep me down and take me, he is weak to me."

With another sigh she looked at her again. SHe was so young and here she is brought into the cruel life of the hyenas. Yakuti was fortunate to live the life of the wild dogs. He has been trained by two species, he has an upper hand in her mind. Yakuti must grow stronger he must be the most valued member of the pack, highly respected, a hero of war material. Was if self ish to want a mate who looked and is strong rather than a meak wimpy one? She would regret it if he lost that desired kindness he had. Maybe that was what drawn her to him... he did not want power, he did not want to dominate, he did not want to mate. That is why Shira wanted to be near him. But now...she is making him want power to get her to love him, to dominate to mate, and to mate...well that is not needed to be said. Shira was changing him into something she disliked the most...a true, arrogant male. She alrady regretted it, but if he still had that sweet, kind nature that was rare in the hyena species, she could over look all that and to the hyena raised by the wild dogs.

"Omoa...what have I done.."

No, I cannot turn back now. I pushed him this far, I want him to go further. I want to see him at his greater potential. I want to see the Yakuti that Mafa wants to see. I want to see what is so special about Mafa's sight of him. Yakutim, you best hurry before my mating instincts kick in again. She glared at Omoa again as if saying not to reply to that last comment as if to say forget it.

"Keep down? What Shira mean?" Omoa asked, her young mind completely oblivious to almost everything in the two hyenas' relationship. "Shira big and strong, want 'Kuti more stronger?" She asked, as if seeking confirmation from the golden hyena.

It was probably better that Omoa was too young for such things, it would only confuse her. Yakuti was smart, and even he had been baffled by the whole concept at first, and only now had begun to understand what love required.

Unfortunately, Omoa didn't pick up on what Shira's eyes were trying to say, and asked anyway.

"What Shira done? Make 'Kuti strong? That so bad?"

With another sigh she rested her head down.

"Yes, I want him stronger. I want him stronger than anything out there. If not, I will be very...sad and mad. Yakuti needs to be stronger."

"Omoa...just dig."

She tucked her tail a bit, curling her body into a ball. She was rather tired. She had been patroling for a while and oddly, was also missing the sight and smile of that hyena. She wanted him to become strong, strong enough to spar with, strong enough to pin her down and take her. He believed that if he became stronger, she'd love him. She wanted him to be a proud male, she wanted to be proud of him. She even wanted Jamaa to be proud of him. Yakuti has a lot of weight on his shoulders. The pack, Jamaa, her, and himself. If Yakuti truely loved her, always thought about her, wanted to be with her, he had to become the best in the pack even by Mafa's standards. If he wanted to be loved in return. He loved her, right?

Secretly....she already loved him.

"No want Shira mad or sad." Omoa said, shaking her head, standing up. "Okay, dig dig dig!" She chimed, turning back to the wall and working on her little tunnel. Her first tunnel ever.

"Dig tunnels, be strong like 'Kuti and Shira." Omoa whispered to herself as she dug through the earth, "Don't want sad mad Shira or 'Kuti" She murmured.

The little ratel continued digging and talking to herself until she was more tired than she had ever been. When she finally returned to the den, Shira and Yakuti were both sleeping, and for once, she felt like she understood why Yakuti always wanted to sleep after a long day. She curled up beside her tunnel and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
