Creidne was, as usual, wandering. It felt like she hardly did anything else, not that there was much choice for all else. Every place she went, she could stay for a few days, but then... then it was off somewhere else. No set destination, just the knowing and the need to go on. So she did, hunting on the fly, catching what she needed to keep going... wherever it was she need to go. She avoided other wolves for the most part, which was probably for the best.
She wondered where it was, the place her heart sought. She wondered, as she padded through the forest on her own, if she'd ever find it before she died...
Damn, but she was melancholy today. A short laugh aloud at her own expense, and she continued down her own path, shaking her head with a half-grin as she went.

Ieshia lay half awake under a great oak, her tail curled around her paws and draped over her nose. It seemed especially cold today as winter drew near. There were warm days and cool in this time of year, and for some reason this one seemed to be bitten by winters frost bug. So sleeping in a little had seemed a comforting thought at the time she had had it. Her dark ears twitched at the sound of something drawing near and she forced herself to open her golden eyes. With a stretch of her jaws in a yawn she lifted her head and peered to see who was coming, whether it be a rabbit or lynx or even another wolf.

While the air was frostbite-quality cold, it was why Creidne caught notice of the wolf ahead of her before she actually walked nearly on top of the other. Granted, not much forward notice -- in fact, more like, oh, four steps' notice, but hey, notice is notice. She was still a little surprised when she walked up on the female, enough that she backtracked a couple steps, not wanting to literally walk all over her.
Creidne gave her a once-over, thinking her something of a odd-colored wolf, all garnet and black with those molten-gold eyes, but then, she herself wasn't the most normal-hued and golden eyes weren't necessarily uncommon in the least. In fact, her mother had been blessed with the coloring...
Bah.
"Sorry fer walkin' up on y' like tha'," she said, dipping her head. "Didn' see y' 'til 'twas t' late." Apparently, she was in a better than average mood today.

Ieshia smiled warmly, even though the traces of sleep still lingered in her expression, "Ohhh, it's fine. I am curled up in the middle of the....ground I suppose." She stretched her unused muscles and then sat up in a sitting position, shaking out her fur slightly. She nodded her head, "Guess I should watch where I'm sleeping, mm?" Her eyes glittered with good humor, light bright embers, "I'm Ieshia. How about you...?" Her nature seemed friendly enough. And she certainly wasn't threating, having just woken up from sleeping under a tree and all.

Well... gads. That was kinda unexpected, a warm response and even a conversation piece? Amazin'.
"Creidne," she replied, sitting back on her haunches and watching Ieshia from a very short distance. "I'm not... y'know walkin' on a pack's toes, am I? I mean, sad if I was, but it'd likely be undesirable, me trespassin'..." She eyed Ieshia sideways, testing the water, so to speak.

Ieshia laughed and shook her head, "Oh noooo, there is no pack here. Or if there is I have yet to be chased out." She grinned at her last comment, making it obvious she was teasing. She might be a traveler, but she wasn't stupid. She knew her way around and was very keen on spotting pack borders. Though most of those in packs that she had met were friendly, one could never be too careful, even if one remained optamistic.

[[ Ary, so sorry it took me so long to respond, but I'm stuck on dial-up until Saturday or Sunday! ]]
Creidne looked around, ears swiveling as if to catch any rampant sounds of approach. "Well, then. Knockers," she said as if to herself. She turned back to Ieshia and studied her. "An' I don' s'pose ye got a pack yerself, ey? Don' smell like a pack..." She grinned lopsidedly. "Y' always by yerself?"

Ieshia rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "No pack though...I meet up with friends when I can. And I certainly do love meeting new people," she said with a grin, "It's just I can't stand being in one spot, you know? Love waking up to a new sunset and landscape every morning." Her dark tail began to swish slightly, her gold eyes twinkling at the idea. She loved a life on the move. She had tried living in one place once-it had felt like it had dragged her down and she had been very restless. Now that she was back to wandering again she didn't think she could go back.

Creidne was floored, sort of. Something in her snapped; she stared at Ieshia with wide eyes.
Y' mean t' tell me, someone says it's okay not t' be pack-bound?
All her life, ever since leaving the pack she had been born to, she had been searching for it again. That home, that pack, that belonging. Sure, she looked for food, shelter, water, warmth, but the pack, that unreachable thing that seemed to always be out of her reach... she had never found it. Not yet. But now that she heard from someone else that they didn't want to be pack-bound... somehow the idea appealed to and appalled her.
"But... 'ow? 'ow can y' say it's okay? Not being in a pack?" she murmured. The abyss swallowed her again, like a crashing tidal wave. Despite the powerful desire to accept this packless thing, her traditional thought wouldn't let go.

"Well, I hunt fine on my own, and I'm never lonely since I still meet up with my friends and meet strangers...and a pack doesn't make the individual. Individuals make packs. In or out of a pack I'll still be me...and if I'm happier traveling and seeing the world...why should I settle...? That seems like a bad deal to me," Ieshia shrugged. But she had an air of self-confidence, of calm about the whole idea that was unwavering. She was more comfortable on the road and she knew it. That was that.

Dumbfounded. Completely dumbfounded. That was the only thing that could be used to described her reaction to Ieshia's statements. Not only her words, but her complete and utter calm about the whole thing. What a creature, to be so self-possessed. Creidne was ... enthralled.
"Amazin'," she whispered. Her shocked look had vanished, replaced by a soft expression of curiosity. "When... 'ow did y' find out?" Maybe it was okay after all, not to have a pack. Maybe it was okay just to ... be her. With friends, with family, eventually, but on her own... what an idea.

Ieshia smiled, "I've been on my own ever since I was a pup...I suppose I believed it then, but I didn't think about it much. Then when I was older I actually joined a pack for a time-one full of friends. But it didn't work out and I realized I was happier on the move. That's all...I suppose." She shrugged. She didn't feel it was a momentous event or anything. It was just how she chose to live, living life to its fullest by moving and traveling.

Everything sank in her chest, leaving her in a calmer sea. She hadn't accepted this traveler thing quite yet, but things seemed easier to think about now. What a wolf... t' be s' strong, needin' only yerself? Ye're somethin' else, lady. I think y' jus' changed me life. She couldn't very well say that out loud -- it'd make her sound like some kind of nutter, and she didn't need any help with that.
"I never 'eard nobody say that," she said, at a loss for something else to say. "Never 'eard nobody say it was a'ight t' go it alone. I thought..." I thought it was somethin' wrong wi' y'.

Ieshia could only smile warmly as she had before. No offense was taken by the others words, nor did she seem to find it strange that the female found it so astounding. Not everyone had the same point of view-she understood that. "Well, I suppose it's not a very common idea. But I've never been happier, really. The only pack I think I'd truly enjoy...would be ones with friends, with family, that just moved like the wind. You know?" Her dark tail continued to sway, as if set a hopeful, calm rhythm no one could break.

"Does such a thing exist?" Creidne asked with a lopsided smile. It sounded wonderful, this idea of a moving pack -- the combination of her wildest dreams, if such a thing could possibly be real. The other female's warm smile caught her off guard yet again; Creidne had never been left so bare in all her life before another wolf and somehow found herself unable to mind. "I could be 'appy in a group like tha'," she almost whispered.
