Welcome to The Doctor's New Companion Game Show!
Hi and welcome. I am the tenth Doctor. As many of you probably already know, since Rose Tyler's death, I am now without a companion. I have formed this game show to test species from around the galaxy and see if they are worthy of my companionship.
The winner of this game show will win a lifetime trip round the galaxy through time and space in the one and only--TARDIS.

The Host
Hello, I am your host, the Tenth Doctor. I have brown, spiky hair (which is depressingly not ginger). I wear reading glasses and I supposse you could call me a bit eccentric. You will continue to refer to me as the Doctor throughout the rest of the game. Thank you.
The Contestants
As your host and judge, I ask that all contestants fill out this profile skeleton. You may PM me the fully completed profile, or you may post it in the forum.
Gaia Name: Name: Age: Occupation: Species: Gender: Appearance:
x x x
Gaia Name: Got Scots Name: Ian McKee Age: 19 Occupation: Actor Species: Human Gender: Male Appearance: Spiky, blonde hair. Skinny frame. Blue eyes. Handsome!
Gaia Name: fourtysecondscarf Name: Samantha Royals. Call her Sam. Age: 18. Her birthday is 9/22/88, so she is almost 19 Occupation: She works part time at her parents cafe and bakery, and spends the rest of her time going to school, doing homework, or hanging out Species: mostly human, descended from an alian of unknown origin. That was on her mothers side, and shes probably only 1/100 alian if at all... Gender: Female Appearance: Sam has short, light brown hair which she spikes and dyes outrageous colors...right now, it is Orange, Yellow, Red, and White. She usually wears Black, baggy pants with calf length combat boots and a shirt with undershirt combo that vaires. She loves hats and scarfs. She wears glasses, and has her nose, ears, lip, and eyebrow pierced.
Gaia Name: Lullabee Name: Taika Delaney Age: 21 Occupation: Assistant teacher at a preschool Species: Human (from the 24th century, mind you) Gender: Female Appearance: Taika has light brown hair dyed dark green at the ends and blue-grey eyes. She has a bit of a tan and even though her face isn't stunningly beautiful, she's definitely at least cute. (It's her opinion, based on careful although not terribly thorough observation, that she has absolutely no idea if prettiness is any advantage here.) She's about medium height, perhaps on the tallish side, and tends to dress a bit scruffily when she thinks she can get away with it. She's pretty sure right now isn't one of those times, so even though her clothes probably look odd to most people from the 21st century, they're mostly odd in a good way.

The Doctor stood up at the podium and began to announce, "Alright everyone. Now that we have some contestants, I would like to ask you a few entering questions. The first question is, if you were to join me in the TARDIS, where would you like to go most? Remember the TARDIS can travel through space in time so... you can choose anywhere!"
x x x
Ian was first in line to step up and answer the question. He thought for a moment as he bit his lip. Ian didn't know much about any place other than Earth, so he said, "I supposse I would like to go back in time. Meet someone cool like... I dunno, Shakespeare or something." He shrugged and stepped away.

I would like to make a note that I am assigning myself the unofficial Co-owner of this thread in Got Scots's absence. IF you have any questions or applications, please contact me.
Sam was next. She had been thinking about this for awhile, but it was still a difficult question. How could she choose, out of all the stars, planets, years and places? The boy called Ian walked back to his seat. She stared at him. How did he just calmly say his answer like that? Wasn't he nervose at all?
She realized that she should stand and walk to the podium as he had done. Standing, she nervously glanced at the doctor. She would give anything to travel with him. Her mouth was dry. Was this being recorded? was it being broadcasted all across the globe? was it live?
She flinched inwardly as she answered the last question. She could Imagine her mom talking to her that morning, application paper in hand. She had promised to watch it and not Just record it to skip through the commercials. Sam smiled a bit, knowing that her mother would record it anyways and show it to her friends.
She shook her head slightly. She needed to think about the question. The path to the podium streached out before her. It was only a few steps, but her stoumech squeamed as she thought of all that could happen. what if she tripped and made a fool of herself! Finally, she tenatavly stepped up to the podium. Her hands were shaking, so she put them in her pockets. Taking a deep breath, she she spoke. "I want to go somewhere Ive never been. Earth, the Moon, another galaxy..." She paused for a moment and stared at her feet as she continued. "Anywhere thats different." Done, she backed away from the stand. She breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at the Doctor again. He had his glasses on and was looking thoughtful. She sat and awaited the next question.

"Hmmm," the Doctor replied to this. He nodded his head approvingly and slipped his specs on to read the next question. "Alright," he began. "Name one quality that would help you survive all our adventures. I mean some of the stuff you see when you're with me--wars, planets falling apart... it's rough."
x x x
Ian smirked at Sam who was sitting next to him. He walked up to the podium and sighed. "Well..." he began. "There's a lot of good qualities in me. I couldn't pick just one." He laughed at this and looked at the Doctor. When he saw the Doctor roll his eyes, he added, "Not that I'm like... full of myself or anything."
He cleared his through at continued, "Well, I supposse you could say..." Ian didn't want to lie and say he was brave. He had to think about this one. "I'm smart, alright? I can think on the spot. That'd come in handy, wouldn't it Doctor?"
The Doctor just stared in disbelief. Ian shook his head and sat back down next to the girl. "You're turn," he whispered.

Sam watched as Ian once again calmly walked back to his seat. Her thoughts were racing, what good qualities did she have? She didn't know, she never thought of it that much. She had a few talents of course, everybody had something they were good at. Her Talents however, consisted of Singing and Drawing, nothing that would help in a dangerous situation.
She had been singing ever scince she was little, in choirs. When she was 13 her mother finally signed her up for private voice lessons, half an hour every week. She practiced as much as she could, however, she had no dreams of being a star. She just practiced. It was the same with drawing. She was good at drawing, and she loved it more than singing. She had snuck her sketchbook in to doodle during commercial breaks. She nudged it with her foot under the chair.
Ian smirked at her and she glanced at him, wishing she could punch the self centered bastered in the face. She stood and walked briskly to the podium, it was easier this time, though there were still butterflys in her stoumech. She took a deep breath and tried not to rush her words. "I never really thought about my talents, because Ive never really been in that sort of situation. That sort of thing comes with experiance, and I just havent got that."
She decided to concentrate on the words in front of her. The top of the podium had been plastered with the show name, so she concentrated on the lines of the first letter. She continued.
"I guess Im persistant. If Im curiose about something then I try to find out more about it and..." She paused, realizing that this was true. Her friends had always told her to stop digging around, and her school reports were always very thurough. Realizing she haden't finished her sentence, she glanced at the Doctor. He was leaning forward in his chair, looking thoughtful again. He seemed to be thoughtful alot....
Sam continued with her sentence.
"...And I have good powers of observation...I notice things that lots of people dont...to tell you the truth, it gets me into trouble sometimes..."
She cut of her sentence with a sharp intake of breath. She let out a nervouse laugh. "I guess I shouldn't have told you that..."
She hurridly shuffled back to her chair, glancing over her shoulder at the Doctor. She wanted to travel with him so much. She had always wanted to travel, and when the offer came up to go in the TARDIS, she begged her mom to let her try out. When she got accepted she nearly packed her bags right then.
She pulled her sketchbook out from under her chair and held it protectivley. Awaiting the next question, she stared intently at the doctor. She wished she could go with him...

"Thank you," the Doctor said. He smiled at Samantha, but didn't even look at Ian. "I have one last question before the next round. I'm just curious... how far does your knowledge extend to when it comes to the universe?" He stepped down from the podium and waited for Ian to go first.
x x x
Nervously, Ian made his way up to the podium. He fiddled with his hair for a minute until he came up with a nice way to put it. "Uh..." he began. "I don't really... space travel isn't exactly... my thing." His eyebrows lowered in concentration. "Well you see... I don't really know much... about... that sort of thing. It's just... I... yeah."
Ian was about to step down, when his face brightened up and he added, "But that doesn't mean I don't want to learn!" He left the podium with a cheery smile and saw the Doctor raise his eyebrows. He was either really disgusted or really interested. Ian prayed it was the second one.

Sam stared at the Doctor as Ian stammered over his answer. Had he just smiled at her? Thoughts were soaring through her mind. A chance! He had smiled at her, and hadn’t smiled at Ian. She was sure that was a good sign.
She tapped her hand to make herself pay attention. She needed to think about her answer, she would never make a good companion if she was always distracted. She knew she couldn’t just name a bunch of constellations, they had different names for them everywhere else. She nibbled on the end of her finger as she thought.
She had always loved space. Stars and planets, she had always been reaching for them, even as a little kid. She knew there was something up there. Something great, bigger than humans could ever hope to be. She knew this, but she had no proof, no reason behind her faith. She remembered running home, crying in third grade because her teacher told her that there was nothing up there but stars. She knew that wasn’t right, she just knew it. Ever since then she had learned as much as she could about stars, constellations, outer space…but it was never enough. She wanted to get out there and touch them. Touch the things beyond her reach.
She took a deep breath as Ian walked back to his seat. In a sudden burst of boldness, she walked to the podium and began to speak in a level voice.
“I've learned everything I can about black holes, but to tell you the truth, I don’t know too much. I'm pretty limited by my recourses. I mean, we only just officially accepted that aliens exist, so we as a race don’t really know that much.” She stopped, her boldness waning. Wanting to finish her thought, he franticly tried to make her ending sound as good and as confident as the rest. “…Still, I think the best way to learn is from experience, and…um…” She pulled on a loose thread off her scarf as she thought. Suddenly, something inside of her flared out and she started to shout, years of frustration bursting to the surface. “I want to learn! I really do! There’s so much out there and I've wasted my entire life wandering around on Moringham Street!” She choked back a sob and continued, her voice soft. “There’s something out there and I want to see it,” she finished.
Sam dismally trudged back to her seat. She defiantly wouldn’t get accepted now. The Doctor needed someone who was cool and level headed, not an angry spastic fireball like her. He needed a strong, independent person at his side. Someone like Ian.

The Doctor watched as Ian stared at Sam with wide eyes. He slowly walked up to the podium, giving the poor girl a chance to calm down. He said, "Thank you. The next challange will be like a bit of... a treasure hunt. You see this golden orb?" He held up a shiny, gold, egg-shaped thing. "This is what you'll be looking for. The first one to make it threw the maze and find the orb will be the winner. Sound simple enough?"
He paused before continueing. "You two may head to your dorm and wait until morning. Before the race begins, I will announce the winner of this short competition bit."
x x x
Ian couldn't believe he was going to be sharing a dorm with this girl. But reality TV was reality TV. All they wanted to see was the two contestants bicker. He sighed as he sat on his bed, reading an Esquire magazine. He tried not to pay attention to Sam. All the cameras in the room wanted was a striking conversation, and he wasn't going to give them one.
((I liked your last post. Poor Sam!))

The trip back to the dorm was an awkward one. Everybody seemed to be avoiding talking directly to her because of her outburst during the show, and she hadn’t gotten a chance to talk to the doctor. A cameraman had insisted on coming along for the ride, but Sam would have none of it. Her mom watched enough reality television for her to know that whatever they said would be distorted and edited to make them out to be something else.
As they approached the hotel door, Sam braced herself for whatever was coming next. She knew there would be cameras, but beyond that, she didn’t know. She half expected there to be a single bed and a broken toilet, but this was a pretty fancy hotel, and they were on a game show with the Doctor. She sighed. She wasn’t going to turn this into some crazy edition of Big Brother.
With a click, the door opened. Ian was first to go in. He immediately rushed to claim a room of his own. Sam took her time. Closing the door behind her, she gently set her bag on the ground and turned to look at the top of the doorframe. The shiny round lens of a camera stared back at her, glinting in the dim light like the eye of a stalker. Sam pulled a roll of duct tape out of her bag. Using an extra chair as a stool, she covered the lens and microphone. “One down,” she murmured to herself.
She had never liked cameras much. She didn’t mind photos, or home videos, but security cameras made her feel paranoid. Sam scanned the rest of the room, looking for the obvious ones. When she was about seven, a well-meaning baby sitter had let her watch the movie “The Truman Show.” There was nothing wrong with this, except of course that the constant notion of cameras in the most unlikely places made her stuff every pinhole, gap, and nook where there might be a camera with tissues. She eventually got over it, but there was always that little bit of paranoia that stayed with her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Doctor leaned forward, nose inches away from the screen. The contestants didn’t know it, but they were being evaluated on how they acted on a regular basis. The two had finally arrived at the hotel, and the moment they got to the room, the girl named Samantha covered up the cameras. He grinned. The Doctor liked this girl…she had spunk! He watched as each of the cameras went black, the last view was always the spiky haired girl leaning in with a piece of duct tape. The only cameras still recording were in Ian’s room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After disabling the mirror camera in the bathroom, she put her duct tape on the bedside table and started to unpack. She was exited about the maze contest tomorrow. Her mind was on overdrive. Would it be an exiting labyrinth full of traps and crazy surprises? Or would it be a rather ordinary maze with a time limit, or perhaps there would be a guardian trying to protect the egg, or a beast chasing after them! She pulled out her sketchbook and began to draw, possibilities filling her mind.
Suddenly, her pencil clattering to the floor, she sprung up and to her pack. Retrieving her duct tape, she rushed to Ians’ room.

Ian looked up from his magazine in shock. "What the hell are you doing?" he asked in a thick, Scottish accent. He froze when he saw Sam with the duct tape in her hands. "Cameras?" he asked. She gave him this look and he said, "I don't mind them. You don't have to cover 'em up or anything."
