Recently Staind covered Tool's song "Sober."

What did you think of it?

Personally I though it was gross, but I also hate Staind.

It's almost as bad as Breaking Benjamin's cover of Schism.

Schism.

You don't ******** cover Schism.

What's next, Hinder covering Third Eye on an acoustic set?

im going to download them before i put my two cents in...

however, as an old staind fan...im a bit curious...

ok well, im having trouble finding the Breaking Benjamin version of Schism...but i have a torrent going soooo hopefully ill be able to hear it soon

now on the Staind cover, I didnt think it was all that bad...it wasn't great...and all i could find was a muddy live version (perhaps thats all there is) but either way, it wasnt all bad. imho sweatdrop

Uhhh there is no room for posers. Tool will always be Tool, I don't care about covers. They can keep their mits off.

WTF were they thinking?! It sucks horribly.

I have to agree. I mean when you do ANY cover you should... I dunno, spruce it up a little, add your own flair and make it unique. You shouldn't just sing the song like you're singing along with it while it's in your cd player.

Not that anyoen could "spruce up" Tool. Everything about Tool is plenty spruced as it is.

It didn't really even make me think of Tool when I heard it. For those who haven't go to myspace.com and look up the Staind's page. The search has to be on myspace, not the internet. It just didn't have that kick that Tool"s had. I mean it's great that they can inspire people with their music, just leave the songs to the original people. It's a really disappointing song. Damn Staind for trying to ruin a good thing. If they do another Tool cover, I'm sending angry messages.

That just makes me sad. Can't anyone leave anything alone and write their own damn music? The movie industry is the same way D:

there is a clip on YouTube for Staind...both an acoustic set and what looks to be some concert footage from a plugged in set.

and im sorry if this makes me a "poser" but i just watched the "unplugged" version of Sober from Staind and it sounded good...its not anything like Tools version yet it totally reminds me of it so i get hints of the same feeling i get when i listen to Tool.

of course, if you werent calling me a poser Howler90 then i appologize for assuming.

No. I have nothing against those who like Staind's version better. I just don't like the Staind cover at all. If you like it, good for you. It just doesn't seem like they put out an effort to make the song sound good. At the begining it didn't sound like the song at all. I didn't even know it was the song until the lyrics. He just doesn't sound good singing Sober. This is what I think. Love the song, fine, listen to it till your ears bleed. I'm sorry if I seem like an a**. It's just in my personality. I can't help it. No one here on Gaia is a poser, it's not what I was trying to say. Just the band. That's it. I have nothing against no one on here.

lol ok ok no worries, i wasnt sure is all...and i wasnt offended anyway...even if you had called me a poser, thats your opinion and your entitled to it.

but anyway, i do see what your saying...and agree its no where near as good as the original...but its still dece.

peace.

Ugh...it's horrible. I listened to a live version of it and he totally messed up the lyrics so the song made absolutely no sense. stressed

I don't think it's THAT bad. It's just a cover... those very rarely, if EVER, outdo the original.

Personally I think it's kind of cool that Tool has reached the 'coverable' status...
