Now that must have been a sight. The hermit teacher heading out toward where his class was to be held with two maces under an arm. His nose was still half hidden in a book as he moved along, which made it all the more amusing to behold. Still, it wasn't as he didn't know what he was doing and was doing last minute study. Rather, today's book was reports on various children. There had been some newer additions as well as some rehomings. It was best to know just what he was up against.
So that meant getting the files and studying them. Even if it was in the last few minutes before a class.
Reaching the point he'd been heading for, the teacher set the weapons down and flipped to the next page. Ah, this one was on the student he was about to teach, how amusing. A dolphin today... this should be interesting.

" I'm going to beat you" Del crowed racing down the halls of d-corp just inches ahead of Echo. The dolphin girl was truly not faster than her partner but she'd gotten a lead on the Bronze dragon and now there was no way the creature could get past her without stepping on her tail or forcing her aside.
As the pair entered the training room Echo tried to squeeze through the door first. This resulted in both dragon and dolphin tripping and going face first onto the floor. Spotting a pair of adult sized shoes both raised blushing faces to see who was inevitably going to be laughing at them.

The man lifted his gaze at the sound of... pouding feet. Yes, she was going to be one of those kids wasn't she? A few seconds later he watched as they aparently tried to stretch the doorframe to fit both. A horrible failure. Not one, but double face plants.
Why did he work here again?
A sigh and he snapped the turned another page of the book, giving the pair a less than amused glance. "When you're ready to stop goofing off we can begin." Laughter wasn't exactly Haruki's thing, which could be taken as both good or bad at the moment. But she had made one strike, he didn't like wasting time. Another would earn her a whack on the head with the hefty spiral of notes the teacher had. At least it wasn't a hardbound today.

Del blushed a bit more before standing and dusting herself off. " I'm sorry I was just excited you know. Lots of people in my family can fight but I can't yet cause dad didn't want to interfere with my training her till he knew what I'd learned.' As she spoke the girl energectically bounced from foot to foot and swished her tail across the floor.
Echo huffed and rolled his eyes the leaned against a wall to watch. This was not his lesson and as long as the teacher didn't harm Del there was no need for him to do anything.

It was amazing how well the techs kept tabs ont he children. The report had been right on the dot. This was certainly going to be one of those days. Not as painful as babysitting Keivlos, but somewhere in that region... "Fascinating, but I'm not here to hear about your family." He quickly stated and snapped the book closed. A quickly side glance to note that the dragon had taken it's place beside the wall.
Good enough. They could start. Though once again he had to ask... why did he work here? Oh right. The ability to escape from the cat.
A few quick steps and he plucked up one of the two maces with ease. "Due to the fact your tail creates a slight imbalance, you will be learning to use a mace. This type is specifically designed for a longer reach and thus is a bit heavier than the normal brand." Not that Haruki made it look heavy, despite being a hermit he wasn't out of shape. "It should be easy for you counter balance with it as well as put the force into blows that is required when using a mace." Because smashing and bashing was the way to go with them. Not something Haruki prefered, but still undeniably how things worked.

Del eyed the weapons with suspicion, they did not look like something she was going to have fun learnignto weild. they looked capable of destruction which was good but they just didn't look fun and really who wanted to fight if there couldn't be atleast a bit of fun to it.
Still she need to learn it and in order to leanr she got to do her favoite thing, ask questions. " How heavy is a normal one and how much heavier are these ones? How long exactly do they reach? How much force are used so supposed to use? What if it gets stuck in something?" Del didn't like the thought of that. " What's the strongest thing they can break? are you actually going to hit me with one?" another thought the girl wasn't to happy with.
From his spot over on the wall Echo laughed and pitied the man, his partner was a chattery little thing; at least it had a purpose.

And Haruki was left listening to a string of questions that left him near speechless. Though not really. The girl seemed to like the sound of her own voice quite a bit though.
A few seconds tomake sure she was really done, then he started to answer them. "A normal maxe ranges around 30 to 34 pounds." The weapon was designed to be heavy afterall. "These are closer to 35 to 40 pounds." Get some force behind it and they could do some real damage. "The range depends on the way you swing it and your arm length. Thus it varies depending on the actual weapon and the weilder." He had to say, at least she seemed to be an attentive enough student. "For force, it truly depends on how hard oyu wish to hit something as well as what you are attacking." Many things in combat were a case by case basis. "You could try to pull it loose, or attack in a different way. One would hope that you wouldn't get it stuck in a wall." Almost done. "It depends on the materials used to create the weapon and the craftsmanship itself. If it is a high quality weapon with higher qaulity materials it would be able to break stronger materials. Also your own strength comes into play again." And lastly, the stupid question if there was one. "No, I will not hit you with one. You will be practicing adjusting to the weight of the weapon and using your weight to gain more force with it. You will not be sparring with anyone."
Which left just one more thing to ask, although he was a bit worried this would mean another long delay. "Any further questions?"

Del shook her head " I'm ready to start now." Her questions had been answered and now she was ready to begin her training, she just hoped she did ok. Would she be strong enough to weild the mace or would she end up spending the whole lesson just trying to hold it in something that looked remotely like an agressive position.

Well that was a plus. Apparently she'd gotten everything out in one good burst. At least it was better than trying to get a straight question out of Revon sometimes.
"Good, then let's begin." He held out the weapon to her and waited a moment for her to take it. Regardless of if the weight proved to much for her, he was going to start and that was that. He picked up the other from the ground and quickly positioned his hands as was the classic form for holding such a weapon.
"Now, a mace might be a slower weapon than some, but it makes up for it in power. Thus when swinging it you are best off using your weight to your advantage." He'd said somethingof the sort, but it was best to make sure she understood. "Even so, you must command that force and not allow it to command you." Swinging and missing only to spin around a few times due to a lack of balance would do little to no good. "This is why mastering and understanding how to balance both force and control with a weapon is important."

Del had taken a step forward at the weight then one back into her orignal positon as she adjusted her tail to hold her steady. This wouldnt be easy but it shouldn't be impossible. She listened grateful that she wasn't expected to move too fast with the mace.
Carefuly sliding her hands along the shaft she mimiced her teacher hand positions. This too held her feel more in control, who knew sucha simple thing as hand potition could effect your balance and ability to fight. " What's the difference between weight and force?" she asked. If she swung was it using her muscle power or the weight of the weapon combined with the weight of her arms.

"Weight is simply how much something weighs. Using weight alone would be like dropping the weapon. Combining weight with force would be using your own physical strength along with the weight to create a larger effect." Which in the end, was what people were after. "Weight can be used to create more force when wielded properly. One way people may go about doing this is to lift a weapon up to bring it down faster." Of course speed often comes hand in hand with force. It can create more, so finding the best way to gather more speed even with a heavier weapon is often to your advantage."
He watched to girl to see how she was doing with taking in the information. "That is why mastering the use of weight is the first step to mastering this brand of weapon. You will get little done if you simply try to throw it around with no thought beyond that." So the whole point of the lesson was explained. Know your weapon and you will know be better off.

Del nodded as she listened to the words, occasion she left her hand slide a few inches to see if the weight of the mace seemed different depending on how she held it. When the lecture stopped she returned them to the proper position and began simply lefting and lowering the mace to gage how it felt.
She wasn't positive she was doing the right thing but in her mind she needed to figure out how it felt just to hold the mace in different ways and perform simple tasks with it before she tried to actually do something complex like oH say walk and swing it at the same time.

He simply nodded as she tested the weight, shifting her hands. "Find whatever area best suits you for a weapon is important. You have more control over a weapon when your hands are closer to the largest center of weight." Which for a mace was the top. "Of course, in order to gain more control you would be forced to sacrifice some range. As with most things, to gain something another attribute much be sacrificed." Which was true as in all things. It was one of the few absolute rules of life. To gain one must give.
"Finding the balance that best suites you is the order of the moment. Experiment and test things. We can continue when you feel more comfortable with the weapon. " That aside he crossed his arms to weight for the girl to get a good feel for what she had to deal with before continuing the explaination. Next would come learning to swing the thing afterall. He didn't want to leaving holes in the wall when she couldn't control the weapon.

Del speant the new few minsged fiddling with positions again some time switching which hand was top and which was bottom in an attmept to find what she wanted. Eventually she found a position that just clicked. Everything felt right and she wasn't struggling at all to find her balance.
To test this for sure she shifted from foot to foot and walked in a small circle. while she had to keep adjusting her tail she never lost her balance and felt pretty good.
Looking over at her teached she grinned " I think I've got it." True to his words she'd lost a bit of reached with the mace in finding her perfect spot but it was stilla decent ways away from her.

It seemed she'd gotten a feel for it now. Excellent, she was learning rather quickly. "Good, then we'll try something new." He shifted his hands again to take the mace and do a quick motion with his arms to demonstrate swinging it. "This is only a simple swing." He started. Once more letting the weapon rest on the floor. "Try practicing simple swings like that for now. Don't use to much force or you might lose control." And create a hole in the wall. "Get used to how the weight feel when you're moving it and not just yourself."
