Oh dear. Madeline frowned looking down at the list of children who needed vacinations...it seemed D-corp had been slipping again. "I haven't had a list this large since the first group of pre-teens..." Frowning, Madeline bit her lip and went to get to work. It was going to be a long day.
Yet, recently things had been going well, all the children she had received had been very well behaved. Perhaps the trend would continue?

Wolfie took a deep breath and smiled at her reflection in the side mirror of the car as she climbed out of the driver's seat. She was not going to lose her temper. Children and people with anger management problems lost their tempers. People who were bad at handling stress lost their tempers. Psychologists, and more importantly, Mothers, did NOT lose their tempers, and especially not with their children. Meanwhile, the source of her irritation was slumped grouchily in the back seat with his arms crossed over his chest, and his eyes half closed in an attempt to ignore the world around him. Wolfie took another deep breath and strode over to the passenger side of the vehicle. She lifted the door handle, pinched the eject button on the saftey belt, and yanked the occupant of that seat out of the car by his elbow. "Caden, you are not getting out of this. We are going into that building. We are going to the hospital area. You are going to get vaccinations. This will happen without a fuss. The lionboy only glared in response. Unwilling to back down, Wolfie pinched his ear quickly.
"Ow! Mom, that stings!" whined Caden as he swatted at her. Wolfie dodged expertly and pulled Caden's other wrist behind his head, a wordless reminder that she could still physically drag him up to the medical wing, although that wouldn't last for long.
"Yes, it stings, and so do the shots. We've already proven that it's nothing you can't handle. Now are we going up there, or are you getting sick and being stuck with needles anyway so they can cut you open?" the lionboy heaved a loud and exasperating sigh and started trudging towards the elevators. Wolfie smiled to herself. She hadn't lost her temper.

((*realizes they haven't entered the room yet* *headdesk*))
Caden glared at his mother after jabbing the button a few times. He was somewhat grateful that they weren't taking the stairs, but getting prodded with sharp things was absolutely not nessesary, nor was anything else that required him to abandon his naptime. When the doors finally opened, he stalked over the thick metal threshold and promptly sat down on the floor with his arms crossed, in a meager last attempt at resistance. As they began the elevator ride, Caden tongued his fur a few times, fastidious habits betraying just how apprehensive he actually was. When the door opened, a gentle nudge was all that was needed to get him to step out of the lift. Before he even realized where he was, the lionboy was already being gentle-nudged right through the doorway of the exam room. He remembered to scowl again, a little belatedly, and his tail swished both out of nerves and irritation. Puffing himself up a little, he laid his ears flat back and glared at both Wolfie and the doctor. The former glared back sternly and Caden's lip twitched.

Madeline could practically here the sullen child coming down the hall way and so quickly smoothed over her skirt and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear before putting on the biggest smile she could manage. "Ah welcome. My name is Ms. Crossette. I shall be serving as your doctor for today." Reaching out she shook Wolfie's hand, "And you must be--" she hesitated on the name but corrected her mistake by saying, "mother. If you'll have Caden take a seat on the table, you can have one yourself. I promise not to hold you up any longer than what is necessary."
The substitute worked briskly, for both patient and her sake, she wanted to get everything done efficiently today. Walking over to the drawers, she prepared the necessary injections and then as a second thought, walked over to lock the door.
Unnecessary children could be troublesome, not that Caden looked it. It was just...Madeline had, had far to much experience with administering vaccinations.

"Violet." Wolfie offered when the doctor was finished, catching the slip. "Pleased to meet you Ms. Crossette." Everything from this woman's posture to her impractical choice of footwear said primness, neatness, and above all appearances. Violet Wolfe would not wear heels if given a choice, and especially not to work. Then again, it could also mean that this substitute doctor didn't routinely tackle catatonic schizofrenics to prevent them from running full speed into walls and injuring themselves. Padded rooms could only do so much.
At the sight of the needles, Caden began to back out of the room, when a firm hand grasped his scruff and dragged him forwards a step. He tried to wriggle out of Wolfie's grip and scooted behind her, but she just pulled him back to the same place where he had been standing. Finally, relenting, he climbed onto the paper-covered table and re-crossed his arms. He was a big tough lion. He could take whatever life threw at him.
Wolfie rewarded the change in attitude with an approving smile. Things always worked out better when they weren't forced. She chose to remain standing a few paces away from the door. Near enough that she would be able to catch him if Caden decided to bolt or intervene if he decided to maul the doctor, but still far enough away to show confidence in him.

Oh Madeline wasn't as much of an ice queen as she looked, but with the small amount of time she spent with her patients and their parents...it was hard to get a better feel for the doctor. Wolfie was dead right about the way Madeline held her appearance, cleanliness was next to godliness after all. Heals were a small price to pay.
Daintily fetching her prepared tray, the small substitute wiggled her way back over to the table. "Arm please," the teacher said, command or favor it didn't matter for she reached out and grasped Caden before he could protest or otherwise.
"Now lets see..." with her free hand Madeline brushed a strand of loose hair from the lion boys face before she ran her polished nails down a warm furry arm. "Not too much fur...we'll be just fine."
"Ready to be a brave boy for me?"

Normally, Cadentau liked being touched or petted or generally handled in any way. The contact was relaxing. He wasn't particularly concerned about the scrape of her impossibly shiney nails. In fact, he was just about ready to turn his brain off and let whatever happened happen. Okay..sure..the Doctor seemed nice enough, she wouldn't do anything too bad to him, right? He spared a glance towards the door, but Wolfie was blocking his way impassively although she reassured him with a gentle nod. Caden clenched his teeth and winced in preparation for the needles, but did not otherwise object.

"You should have seen Keanu," Madeline gave a slight sweet laugh as she carefully gave the first injection. "His fur was so thick I had to snip away a patch of it so I could find his arm. All very unpleasant too I must say...I didn't behave quite as well as you have been."
With that Madeline set the last needle on the tray down and reached in her coat pocket for a band aid. The substitute was highly proficient at her job and the whole time she had been blathering about , was time she had taken to finish her job while Caden was distracted.
"Now, would you like sweet before you left?"

"It's over?" The look on his face was so incredulous that Wolfie almost laughed. At the mention of edibles, Caden immediately brightened up, the events of the day all but forgotten. "Do you have turkey-flavored lolipops?" he questioned as he hopped off the table. Those were his absolute favorite, although he had to admit that they tasted almost nothing like turkey. As if by magic, Wolfie produced one out of her shirt pocket and handed it to him.
"See Caden, it's just a few pricks. Nothing you can't handle." She scratched his head affectionately, lingering around the base of his ears. "Well, thank you. We'll be getting out of your way now." With Caden thus contented, Wolfie raised her hand as if to tip a hat, before remembering that she wasn't wearing one and settled for a parting wave instead.
"Fankyu an bye." the lionboy repeated obediantly around a mouthful of crystalized..something.

Turkey? It was hard to conceal the look of disgust on her face, but Madeline did her best to mask it. Candy was meant to be sweet, who ever heard of something so...vile? Especially turkey, it was such an un-refined meat.
"Good bye." The substitute politely returned Wolfie's gesture as mother and child left through the door.
...Turkey?!
