Know any good artists that are high-school dropouts?
Please refrain from talking about college-dropouts. Just high-school. College tends to be a little more of an option than something of vitality.
I'm just really curious about high-school dropouts who become artists. Is it possible? I heard like, some people online briefly mentioning about it but like.... Is it REALLY possible? Without or with a GED?

i dunno
I'm a highschool dropout with no GED and I'm not a "good" artist but I am a moderately successful one. The paying work that I have acquired has never asked me about my education, I've always been able to get freelance jobs based on the strength of my work.

I'm not a "good artist", but I sure as hell am a high school dropout.
Uh, I don't know the status of any of the good artists I'm aware of.

I feel so young. I've got another two years of high school left.

I don't think I even knew any good artists in high school. Nor do I know what kind of education most of the artists I think are good had. I knew a couple people in high school who had a lot of potential to end up pretty decent artists by now. The one that stands out most is (or used to be) on Gaia somewhere. He's in the army or something, so I don't know how he's doing with the art thing. It'd be kind of a shame if he wasn't keeping up with it, though.

I'm still in high school, and plan to go to college just in case I decide to be lazy and teach instead of work in the field. At least that's what I keep telling myself. Ha. I know there are some art colleges that accept students without a HS diploma, but I really can't think of any artists that didn't graduate high school though.

I've never heard that before. Generally if you are going to go to any college you have to finish high school. At least that's what i've found.

Yeah, it's usually the smaller local schools that let you in. I know that Northeastern University here in Chicago accepts people without a diploma, on a probation status.

Without or with a GED? i believe it's possible. i think the only way it can hurt your chances is if your potential employer is looking at your resume and asks about it, but i don't think i've ever encountered any employer asking me what high school i graduated at. i know that oftentimes studios will take a person with at least some schooling (more along the lines of having a degree) and a portfolio than someone who only has the portfolio (especially if the skill level is the same), because then it shows them that you're willing to put time and effort into something and dedicated enough to see it through.

ps, I can say from experience in the pro commercial photography realm that every photographer I've worked for hasn't been asked for a resume, just a portfolio. I think its different with gallery art, as they like to brag where the artist studied etc etc.
