Is it normal for people to stab themselves and their sketchbooks/tablets because they can't draw? Or they think they cannot draw? Or is it not normal? Do I need psychological help? D:

I'm not asking for crticisim or praise at all. I'm just wondering if I need psychological help? Is an art teacher better? Should I just calm down? Are all famous graphic novelists/artists like this or used to be like this?

I dunno, I've stabbed my sketchbook before.

It's quite alright.

I've spent my time crying like a little girl because I thought I couldn't draw. It's so frustrating.

You don't need a Shrink, you prolly need some time to cool off and relax.

Good luck, shug.

What?

I'm pretty sure every artist gets frustrated now and then. Nobody ever has 100% of their work turn out just as they pictured it, and I get into really long angsty periods of "Man. I can't draw anything, if I tried, I know it'd suck, so why waste my time." I think just cranking out *something* art-related, even a stick figure, helps. I mean, if you're getting to the point where you want to physically hurt yourself because of dissatisfaction with your art, then yeah, you should probably seek some help. But it's totally normal to become angry and frustrated.

yeah i've ingested multiple litres in a day and it never made me nervous o-o

you must not have alot of caffeine on a regular basis

because a 20 oz bottle will get rid of a headache for me, and not much else.

I always think my art sucks.
Mainly because my eye hand coordination is shot to hell through years of neglect and abuse of my poor sight.
Additionally, my slow thought process means that I can't draw something without spending at least a couple of days tossing it 'round my head, and never accomplishing anything anyways.
So, in short, my art sucks anyways.
Which is why I've never even applied to join the Guild.
And why I spent the last 2 months away from it.

Maybe you're overworking yourself?
You seem to have an ultimate goal of drawing a graphic novel, but i think it's best to take it one step at a time. If I wanted to start a graphic novel, I would start some characters just as regular drawing characters, and then work out their personalities and things like that, and then reconsider and evaluate which ones would work well together in a story (over, say, a month or two). Only then would I even start consider what the story would be and things like that. And, at 15, it's not like you should have to feel the kind of pressure you seem to be feeling from things that don't even need to be done~. I'm just saying, "Lighten up kid" :]

hmm i can't remember if i ever threw a tantrum or anything about my art.. I'm irritated that i can't draw a frontal face symmetrically (sp?) anymore... i can't hardly stick to obne art style and am not really sure what my 'natural' style is...
