Just wanted to say somthign here and in the main forum (so that way our choicer memebers can join in)

What ever riligion you are: Jewish, Pagan, Wican, or Christian. This month represents somethign speacial. For Pagans and Wiccans it is a number of things. The winter soltice as well as other celebrations and times of observance. For the Jewish it is those eight speacial nights. And for the Christian it is the day of Christmas, the day the riligion celebrates the birth of their savior and mesiah: Jesus Christ.

I don't want arguments, I don't want dissentions or challanges of riligion and origins. Every one has their faith and beleive, I implore that you respect it. What I want to see is what the Riligious Coalition has been trying them selves so hard to bring about in this world. Peace, love, understanding, and a reason for all humans of diffrent beleives to come toghether and be as one.

I Invite all of what ever riligion or faith they have to come, say something: A prayer, a blessing, a wish of good fortune, anything. It is this i have to say.

On the 25th of this month, my faith come toghether to observe one of our holyist nights, the night our savior and mesiah, who we see as God the Son as well as God in Flesh. Who came to work mericles, to spread a message of love and peace. His ultimate purpose on this earth was to die. To die and take all the sins of the world, present and future, with him.

I thank Christ, and the Father, for their gift. Christ himself was the ultimate gift, none can compare, but on this day we try.On this day we give gifts to thoe we know and love, and some of us in deep with our faith even give them to those we hate. A verypowerful message that Christ preechedon his time on earth was to love your enemy as you would a brother.

I love you, all of you. Even those i frequently say I hate. We have our disagreement and our misunderstandings, but still we all must learn to love and to live and let live. We all try, in our own way, to work for a better world.

Merry Christmas to all of you. And God bless you, and my the Son be with you.

I now invite other to say their peice, to say what they have to share. But, please, nothing challanging, nothing hurteful or wrong. I ask only for blessings to others and words of love.

I am firmly of the belief that winter has so many holidays because it's a depressing time of year. *wink*

The longest night of the year is almost here. It's always been a time for celebrations, probably since after it the days get longer again.

Anything that remains green in the winter is holy. Evergreens, holly, mistletoe, all of them are special because they keep their color in these months when there is so little color around.

In a time when everyone seems lost in consumerism, I hope we can all try to relax and enjoy time with our families and friends.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I will say as an agnostic that I acknowledge this is a special time of year for everyone and I hope everyone enjoys it. ^_^

I may be Catholic, but...

I don't believe the original intention of Christmas was to celebrate Jesus' birth. It was to make the conversion process easier for pagans by setting a Christian theme to a Pagan holiday. My feelings on Christmas are mixed, but it's certainly become a time of year where I'm thankful to God for the family and friends I have to share it with, which makes me grateful for Jesus' birth, which makes me more than happy to celebrate it even though it's the wrong time of year. It'd be like me celebrating my birthday in September, but the key thing is, it's being celebrated.

Yeah, Jesus was probably born around February or March, during lambing season when the shepherds stay out at night with their flocks.

But (like President's Day), celebrating that He was born is probably more important than getting the day right. Jesus, being the all-forgiving, loving, nice guy that He was, probably doesn't care too much.

And remembering that this is a holiday season to enjoy time with family and friends (and buy them nice things) is important. I'm sure that the Christ would approve.

Same here. I'm agnostic as well but do think it's a nice time of year and still Celebrate (spelling?) Christmas, I don't think it's just a christian holiday anymore, tons of non-christians celebrate it.

I think Jesus (really his name is Yashua which is a form of Joshua but some how changed) was born some time in the spring.

Jesus was born on April 17 5 BC according to this show that I watched. The magi probaby showed around December 20.

The reason why December 25 was choosen to to celebrate Christmas was because there was already a holiday. I believe it was a celebration of the sun god.

Thats the end of history lesson. As far as my feelings of Christmas.

I love Christmas. I think it is the greatest time of the year. I know that not everyone feels the same way.

Why?

It hasn't been debating or disrespectful talk. In fact, no one has said anything that lessens the importance of the season or the joy of spending time with family and friends.

In fact, the origins of Christmas (or any other winter holiday) would take far more time than the mention of when a certain deity's Son might or might not have been born.

[edit] Why don't I make a comparative winter holidays and their origins thread - that will solve all of the disputes in here.

I'm sorry waters. This request isn't up for debate. It may not be debating yet, but it may eventualy break down into it, and I don't want that. We're debating right now in a way, soethign I wanted to avoid in this thread.

Honesty isn't a concern for me in here lyme...You could say you worship the Flying Spagheti Monster, and that Breadsticksmas is your holiday, and I would wish you a happy one.

I created this thread in hopes of mackign it a sort of minature Riligious Coalition, where, instead of discussing oragins and who barrowed form who and what, they pray for one another in their own way and give thanks to one another in their own way and no one is offended...I should be surprised that one of the first few psosts here would be about some riligion's holiday's origin...even when I asked that such a thing not be discussed...

It wasn't about a religion's origin though. It was about a holiday's origin, which is very different. And if you don't want us to be honest about the holidays we celebrate, do you want us to lie and say, oh, I celebrate such and such, when we really don't?

I can't really say I celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ because to me, it's not the real birth of Christ. To me, it's like celebrating my birthday in September when I was really born in March. I celebrate the family, the love, the peace, but I don't celebrate the holiday. I celebrate Christ's birth later. If you want me to lie and say, "Oh, I celebrate Christmas because I'm Catholic!" then I'll lie and pretend I celebrate Jesus' birth on the 25th of December. But I really celebrate it in spring. I don't celebrate a holiday in winter except for commercialized Christmas, because I believe in love, joy, peace, and family togetherness. I believe it's a very good thing to have a day of the year set aside where you make sure to pay attention to those you love that you might otherwise have said, "Oh I'll talk to them later," with the full intention of doing so, but getting distracted by life.

If this thread is about saying, "I celebrate Christmas!" and lying, sure, I'll do it. You said you wanted us to state our beliefs though. I did that. My belief was not questioning anyone else's. I'm not disrespecting people who do celebrate the 25th as the birth of Christ. I'm saying, I don't celebrate it like that because I don't believe that's what it is.

If you have a problem with that, instead of saying, "I don't want arguments, I don't want dissentions or challanges of riligion and origins. Every one has their faith and beleive, I implore that you respect it. What I want to see is what the Riligious Coalition has been trying them selves so hard to bring about in this world. Peace, love, understanding, and a reason for all humans of diffrent beleives to come toghether and be as one. "

You're disrespecting MY beliefs by telling me it's not appropriate to post them. I wasn't challenging anything or anybody. I was stating MY beliefs. If you can't respect them, don't pretend you can.
