I've been reading a lot in these forums about the HPV virus, and have noticed how seriously common it is to carry it! eek But, my question is, at your doctor's office, do they go ahead and test you for that in your PAPsmears, or do you have to request it?
I had my very first one when I first got pregnant (back in May or June was the PAP), but they didn't tell me anything was out of the ordinary. So, I was just wondering if they even tested for HPV at all. confused

Yes, pap smears test for HPV and look for other problems as well including signs of cervical cancer. If your test came back without abnormal results, you're fine.

I always wonder about HPV too...I know they say there's a vaccine for it now, but I don't know anyone who's had it yet. D:

Yes they test for HPV during all PAP smears. However, don't automatically assume that just because your doctor didn't say anything about your test results that that means your fine. You need to specifically ask about your tests results.
Now I have Cervical Cancer caused by HPV, I also found out that my doctor had not told me of my previous abnormal test results from my first pregnancy visit back in February, because there wasn't a big risk factor. Well, my results simply got worse and worse by the end of my pregnancy.
Don't NOT ask. You need to ask for your test results.

Generally if I get an abnormal pap (and I've had one or two for whatever reason nothing serious) my doctors even including planned parenthood have called or sent me notice in the mail.

qustion.. ok i had my first pap after i had my baby..that was oct 05 when should i get my next pap... I have a family history of cervical cancer... I asked my doc but she said nothing,, WHat a doc huhhh.. Im looking for a new one

Ok on the shot for HPV there is no real way of getting it without having to pay for it out of packet and even if your insurance pays for it there are age requirments you have to between 12-26 I am hoping my insurance is willing to pay for it before i turn 26 in march

PAP every year unless you have had an abnormal PAP in the past. Then twice a year, or as recommended by your doctor. That is rule of thumb.

*nods* My first pap when I got pregnant with Cas came back abnormal, I have HPV, and the doctor told me at my next visit... I was tested again at my two weeks post-partiam visit to see if it's progressed or gone away... It can do both. I'll know the results next week... If you've tested positive for HPV then you can't get the vacene... (sp)
They are doing a test in my area, you have to be in stage two (there are three stages of HPV) and be the right age... I was hopeing to be part of it, but 1) there are three groups, two of which get the placebo shots... so you only have a 33% chance of acctuley getting the full medician to do any good... 2) You can't be breastfeeding, and Cas is only a month old... I had decided two things when I became pregnant, a. I would have the birth compleatly naturaly, and b. I would breastfeed for the first year because it's whats best for the baby... I couldn't safely procede with a, so b is a MUST... and I'm not going to switch Cas for a 33% chance of an EXPEREMENTAL med... it's just not worth it for me... So ya...
I would ask your doctor just to be sure, and make sure to have regular paps because it can lay dorment and you can not KNOW you have it until it becomes active...
Side note, It is NOT detectable on men.... no tests or anything for them to see if they have it. My ex gave it to me because he cheated on me with lots of other girls... but just because you have it does NOT mean one of you was unfaithful. 3nodding
