And If I recall Christian and Catholic are two different ones, correct?

There are many reasons that there are different denominations. The biggest reason for different denominations is people and life(styles). Person A would be better off to go to Church A than Church B. However, Church B may be wrong, and Person A may sincerely believe that Church B is right (what they believe in is true). But truth is not relative; therefore, Person A is sincerely wrong. This is why I often don't like church--the laws (good stuff, ex. worship, sermons, etc.) are put above the people--the love. This causes people to sincerely believe in something that could be wrong, and this could be because the leaders also believe in something wrong; or they're just human and mess up a lot. domokun 3nodding Sorry for the complex answer, lol! xd

Mayo_in_a_Dress Like, if everything is listed under Christian, then why are there different branches like Baptist, Episcopalian, etc.? And If I recall Christian and Catholic are two different ones, correct? and about the Christian and Catholic. they are actually one in the same. Catholicism are Christian they are just concidered another denomination. there are three major denominations: Roman Catholic, Protestent, and the Orthodox church. each one has more branches that come from them for example: Roman Catholic - and non Roman Catholics are from the same thing Protestents cover denominations such as the Baptist, methodist, presbytarian and the lutherans ( all based off the protestent reformation that Martin Luther helped lead ) and within the Othodox church there are several other Orthodox churches usually varying but culture such as the greek orthodox. i have a book on different denominations, history and beliefs of them. i don't think it covers every single one but it covers most of them so if you want i could answers questions for you from what i an read and from what i do know about those denominations. if you'd like to look at the book at a store sometime here is it's title and author The Complete Guide to Christian Denominations understanind the history beliefs, and differences by Ron Rhodes

Each of us have different lifestyles and different tastes. Denominations sprang up around doctrines and a few non-essentials. Like the Apostle Sha'ul (Paul) said and I paraphrase, 'We are ONE Body, but are we all the eye? How would we hear? Are we all the hand? How would we walk?' We are ONE Body but we are all different and individual. As long as person believes in G-d the Father Son and Holy Spirit, believes in Y'shua (Jesus) Death, Burial and Resurrection, that He is the ONLY Way to Heaven and that He is coming back for a spotless Church, then they are a Christian and my brother no matter what denomination they are!

Reformed: 1) Augustinism or Calvinism. 2) Covenant Theology.
Baptist: 1) The practice of a believer's baptism by full immersion, which is performed on non-infants after a public profession of faith in Jesus as Saviour. 2) Operate on the congregational governance system.

Mostly in interpretation. BUT Christians and Catholics are not the same. Catholics believe that you have to confess your sins to another human instead of straight to God like it says in the Bible. They also believe in prayer to other humans that they deemed worthy to be saints. Please find a copy of the book "The Great Contoversy" it will explain so much more.

I'm feeling lucky, old lady! Fortune tapping at my elbow! This is something that utterly confuses me. As far as I know, there are different denominations because the beliefs (and practices) differ slightly from denomination to denomination.
Question: my parents are Baptist, what exactly does that entitle? I call myself Baptist sometimes out of habit but I don't like to because I'm not exactly sure what I'm proclaiming I believe/do.
That was me telling you not to be stupid.

Denominations are mainly just from small differences. Some poeple make a big deal of them, but the bible says nothing about denominations. Baptism, missionaries, women, and finances are the biggest issues, I think. However, I beleive that Jesus only has one bride, and since we are all one in Christ Jesus, we should act like it and stop focusing on why we are so different. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Thus, we, as the church, need to be united, and stop with the persecution against each other.

no catholics are a branch of Christianity. Christianity is the big overall tree. the differences is all the different things they make a big deal of. all the small differences made them branch off.
