The question is: (as seen in the header)

Do the clothes you wear HAVE to reflect your musical preference?

I was walking down the street listening to Slayer (Angel of Death), when some chick in a trench coat started bitching at me. I was wearing a yellow shirt...

Feel free to discuss

Nope, I doubt clothes matter at all. I dress like a nerd yet I listen to Metal, Rock, and all that good stuff.

I think it does matter because you usually don't find many people who listen to rock wearing pink. I think it's like some sort of mockery to them.Usually the color clothes you wear reflects your personality that's why.

stare I really don;t think it should reflect the kind of music you listen to. I mean, all because you like metal and rock doesn't mean you have to wear black and dark colors ALL THE TIME! I mean, I'm a girl who lilkes rock, metal, punk ect, but I still like to dress nice when I'm going out somewhere fancy and crap... All black gets kinda boring at times..

I dont think the way you dress HAS to show your music style. I think you should dress the way you are comfortable. But if you do, thats okay aswell.

eek Thats not true. Thats actually the new style to wear pink and be into rock and punk.

No what you wear doesn't have to do with the music you listen to. I love rock and punk but I don't dress that way. You can like a music style without having to promote it in your clothing. I actually think its kinda ridiculous to even do that.
My boyfriend is the BIGGEST heavy metal fan but you would never guess it by looking at him. He wears hollister and dresses kinda prepy gonk sweatdrop lol. Oh well He's still cute! whee

I don't think so. Apparently I dress "goth/gangsta" (so my friend says) and I'm not into goth rock at all, in fact I like very little rock. I'm more into hiphop, rap and R'n'B and I know people who are the opposite.

It doesn't have to, although most of the time it does.

I'm not saying it's okay for me to look at a guy dressed completely in black, chains, and spikes and assume he's listening to rock or heavy metal ... but I can almost assure you he isn't listening to Nsync!

Musical genres aren't just about types of music, they also stereotype the people who listen to the music; in a way, the music forms a 'way of life' for some. The musicians who make the music usually dress a certain way, (the 'in' style for that stereotype) and the fans follow. It's not just this way with clothes; musical interests also relfect the type of car you drive, the way you talk, ect.

BUT, it's not always like that.

There are tons of people who like different types of music, hang out with a diverse group of people, and make their own style ... and I think that's pretty cool 3nodding

gonk yeah, the way I dress does not reflect the way I act... or otherwise I would be the sit in a dark corner and write in a poetry book >.>;; anyways, why would bits of cloth affect the music you like?

I think the clothes you wear represent your personality, not the kind of music you listen to.

it doesn't matter because some people that listen to metal dont have enough money for those kinda clothes.

it can, but it doesn't have to. i listen to metal and alternative and i wear a lot of black and stuff.. but not all the time. its just my perfered style. no 2 people think the same and someone could be all like headbangin and stuff and wearing a pink shirt and skirt and stuff.. so its just a reflection of your personality. i mean ya i can be depressing at times..but usually you'll find me randomly ranting about cheese wheels, evil nailpolish from hell and duckies... o0...duckies...YAY!
so im usually hyper and happy but you couldn't guess it from the way i dress..its just MEH!! domokun
