Yes, more OLD stories. But some other things too.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane

Beowulf
Man on Fire by AJ Quinnell
Any of the books by Shirley Jackson or Octavia E. Butler

So, have you? What did you think? Did you like them? I did ^_^...except I never finished The Canterbury Tales and Beowulf. Need to do that...

I've just read Beowulf, and for being the oldest known book in Anglo history I thought it was pretty good. I was even thinking of re-writing my own version of it, minus the 4000+ line poem format.

I've got notes upon notes on Beowulf, so many notes, stupid Poetry prof... filling my head with info!

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne: I've read it and I liked it except for the ending.
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain: yes, and I really liked it.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer: read what I had to for class, kinda hard to read being in olde english but I liked it, especially all the old-time innuendos.
Animal Farm by George Orwell: read it but didn't like it. I felt sorry for Boxer.
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane: nope
Beowulf: what I had to read for class, it was okay though my fav part is where he fights Fafnir. Have you read a book called Grendel that is from the monster's perspective? It's interesting.

I have read only a short story of Shirley Jackson's called "The Lottery" which I thought had a horrible idea.

I read Beowulf in school, and I have Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I just haven't read it yet.... Has anyone read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee? It's really good!

I really should read that one. I just have been lazy so far >.<

I had to read the Scarlet Letter for English class back in high school. I did not enjoy it at all.....to me it was long and boring. There were parts that were interesting, but most of the time I wanted to smack Dimmesdale and the townspeople. stare

I have only read a few of the Canterbury Tales but so far I really like them. I have yet to read the Miller's Tale though......but I fully intend to do so. xd

I read Beowulf in high school as well. It was AWESOME!! I loved it. This is probably because I love mythology of any kind. And it had violence and gore! How can you not love that? blaugh

In response to Kana's post, I have read To Kill A Mockingbird. I loooovveee that book!! *hugs the book* Scout is the best! ^_____^

I've read all of, or part of each of these.
The Canterbury Tales are by far my favorite, although Beowulf is wonderful too.
In case you couldn't tell I like medieval literature.

*Love* Shirley Jackson, read almost everything she's ever written (I haven't gotten my hands on a copy of The Bird's Nest or Come Along With Me yet). Read a few Octavia Butler books, but haven't had time lately to track down more.

I've read Huck Finn, Scarlet Letter, and Animal Farm. Not a huge Scarlet Letter fan -- the only Hawthorne I really like is "Rappacinni's Daughter".

I've read The Canterbury Tales, Animal Farm, The Red Badge of Courage, and Beowulf as well as The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I tried reading the works of Octavia E. Butler, but I didn't like her style that much.

Okay, the only book I read was Animal Farm by George Orwell and it was one of the most depressing books I 've ever read. We had to read it in school and decipher all the hidden meanings. stare Like that it was based on the Russian government and then we had to take an essay test on it.(I can't stand essay tests crying )
And I've also read To Kill a Mockingbird, and I thought it was awsome. then we had to watch the movie in school and even though it was made in the forties or something, it was really good. I recommend both to anybody who enjoys stories about the south during the forties.(i think it took place in the forties. it's been a while since i read it. sweatdrop )

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

-I loathed this book. I got three chapters in before picking up the Spark Notes and calling it a day.

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

-This is a book I've been assigned to read 3 times, tried to pick up on my own once, and no matter what I only ever get halfway through.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

-I've read parts of these. Pretty enjoyable once you figure out what's going on.

Animal Farm by George Orwell

-I actually loved this book, for all the allegory and such. I felt bad for the horse. It was the most interesting book I read in classes for high school.

The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane

-See Scarlet Letter

Beowulf

-Again, pretty enjoyable once you understand what's going on.

Ooh! Ooh! Animal Farm is my all-time favorite Orwell book. "'Four feet good! Two feet bad!'".
