It actually originally comes from something else. When they filmed doctor who, they wanted to stop people from stealing the tapes so tehy labelled them 'Torchwood' as it is an anagram of Doctor who. Ineresting, huh?

I don't know where she heard it, but I read the same thing on Wikipedia. Well, actually, first I heard it from my Whovian best friend, then verified it with Wikipedia.

I'm sure I'd heard about the tapes thing before. I believe I read about it on the Doctor Who website when Torchwood was first announced, but I'm not sure.

They also used it as a cover when they were auditioning Freema Agyeman. She was going to have an audition for Doctors, but they told her agent they wanted her for Torchwood. They didn't tell her the truth until just before her screen test with David Tennant.

She thought she was auditioning for Torchwood...

Yeah. I like the fact they wrote Torchwood on the tapes to stop them getting nicked. Now they're screwed, because Torchwood has fans too. xD

I don't think they can get off with that any more though lol with all us fans around, we might be a bit disapointed to find that it was Doctor Who. lol As for the anagram, I found out near the start, my dad and I worked it out by accident.
