Water was good. Normally the watering hole had alot of animals, but today it was suspiciously quiet, so Kabichi had brought Legeti over for some water and sun. The pup, however, was distracted by his tail at this point, thirst quenched, while Kabichi was flopped on a warm rock watching. Angaza was paching again. This time he'd been less interested in sneaking off, and more in his stomach. The hyena trotted along his route, sniffing occasionally, when he looked up, and grinned. Oh, what luck the gods brought HIM this fine morn! There was a lion cub he'd stalked before, and with an appetizer! Maybe he should make good on his word...

Tia yawned and padded quietly along towards the waterhole. Verdad was off with one of her little friends again, bless her, and so she had decided to take Aden on a trip to get some refreshment. He was a grumpy little fellow, some excercise would probably do him good. She leaned down and nudged her son along, as he had been lagging behind a bit.
"Aguuughh, mooomm!" Aden whined as she nudged him. "Stop it!" He scowled and trotted forward, trying to escape his mother's torment. It was then that he spotted the figures at the waterhole. He'd never seen a hyena before, but somehow he had the idea that this one didn't mean well. He gulped. "M..mom?"
"What is it Aden, want another bath?" Tia joked, before falling silent as she spotted what her son was worried about. Her ears lay flat and she reached forward to pull him towards her. "Quiet," she hissed, assessing the situation. Damn! She had her own cub to worry about, but there was no way she could let the other one get eaten...

Stalking through the grass, little brown ears perked forward. The target was spotted... Sighted... And pounce! With a mock-roar, Mut launched from the grass at Kabichi, foretoes spread out though claws not extended. Play time! Mut, in all her joy, noticed not the danger that lurked near by.
Lounging under a bush to keep cool, Schatz perked up an ear at the mock-roar. A grin spread. A cub. Rising from under her shade, the juvenile hyena looked around and spied not one but two cubs, and the appetizer. And another cub... And... Oh, great, a lion. But it was just one lioness... There were two hyenas... And three cubs. The young hyena moved closer, a grin present on her face.

"EEEE!" Kabichi squealed and twisted, grabbing Mut's ear and tugging happily. "Hi, Mut!"
And lo, Legeti's ears pricked and he began to bound over. Mut was always fun!
Angaza moved slowly, until he was standing over Schatz, grinning.
"Looks like we've got ourselves a banquet this time, eh, Schatz?"
And the adult prowled again, a grin on his face as he haunched to give himself some camoflauge.
Mmm. He'd have food, this time.

And another cub? Tia growled low in her throat. She couldn't walk away now. "Stay behind me, Aden," she cautioned quietly, eyes riveted on the bigger of the two hyenas. The smaller one was only as big as Aden, but the large male could easily kill a lion cub. She'd have to focus on him.
Aden growled louder now at seeing the hyenas move in. He ignored his mother's warning and lept out from under her legs, fur puffed up and hissing like a steam engine. "Leave them alone!" he shouted in a manner he imagined to be menancing. "Or.. or I'll fight you!"
Sigh. Always the stupid little thing.. or brave, same thing really. Tia took a few long stride forward and stood over her son again, a challenging look on her face. "No one wants a fight," she said quietly, eyes narrowing. "So I would appreciate it if you two would just take your drinks and leave. We are from the Pridelands, and they don't take kindly to having their members bullied."

Hearing the growls, Mut stopped mid-play, looking up. Visions of the lioness that had attacked Momma filled her mind, pale blue eyes growing wide with fear. Whimpering, she scurried and hid, afraid of what would happen. Not again, nonono, not again... Curling up under a bush, as close to a tree trunk it was against as she could get, the cub trembled. Blood... Blood... Lots of blood... A puddle, a river, a lake... Closing her eyes, she wished for the danger to go away.
Oooh, so scary... The juvenile let out a cackling laugh. "I'm shakin' here, runt boy." She moved closer, ears back a bit. "You wanna fight? Come on, try me." She knew what a hyena was capable of. She'd crushed bones with her jaws trying to get the marrow hidden inside. She could crush this cub's skull. The mother, though... She stood in the way... One ear perked suddenly as the splatter-marked cub ran. Hide and seek, eh? Schatz could do that. She could seek that cub out and... She quivered in anticipation.

Both eaqrs pricked as cub and pup watched Mut, and Kabichi looked around, nose twitching, then her ears flattened as she saw black.
EVIL FURRY BITEY THINGS.
And Kabi grabbed Legeti by the ruff, turned, and bolted after Mut, a confused Legeti in her jaws.
Angaza smirked. Oh! Fun! And then the female lioness spoke to him, and he turned, cooly. Did he ALWAYS have to explain?
"Lady, mind your own business. It's not MY fault if parents can't keep their kids in line... Food chain, you know... Survival of the fittest. So beat it."
And he turned to trot after the two cubs and the pup. Mmm. Food!

Oooh, insult him, would she?! Aden growled and shot forward again, sharp fangs bared, needle-like claws extended. That nosy skunk-marked hyena brat had something coming to her! "I'm not runt!" he said boldly, stepping towards her. "I can take you!"
Tia sighed, looking from Aden to the smaller cubs. Trusting that her juvenile son could hold his own against Schatz for a while, she strode towards Angaza, fangs bared. A few feet away, she roared. Meant not only to scare the hyenas, any lion in the area who heard the roar would come to see what all the fuss was about. Not that Tia couldn't take the scrawny male and his tiny sidekick...
She placed herself between Angaza and the cubs, snarling. "Last chance to back down."
"Yeah!" Aden said, taking a cue from his mother. "Last chance before we fight you!"

Another cackle escaped the juvenile hyena. "Oh, you're SO tough!" Her grin turned into a scowl. "And so STUPID." Bunching her muscles, she charged at the juvenile lion, claws at ready, teeth beared to tear.
Blood, everywhere... Mut whimpered, trying to hide herself even more. The roar frightened her, brought up memories. Fighting... It scared her, she hated it. It was bad, it was wrong, it was... It was so many things she did not like.
Looking up from where he was lounging, Danzi perked his ears. A roar? An angry roar. In a swift move, he was on his paws and trotting towards it. The winds shifted. Scents filled his nose. Mut, Kabichi, the paler cub's little friend... A lioness, her son... And hyenas. Ears back, the male let out a deep roar, charging towards the scuffling. Hyenas were NOT crossing into his pride's territory again, not on HIS watch! Ahadi help him, he'd kick both the hyena's bums if he had to.

Mut looked scared! Kabichi trotted over to her friend quickly, and started to try to groom reassuringly before snuggling up close.
"Mut? It's OK, Mut. It's OK. We're together." She made a tiny whimpering sound.
Legeti snuggled up as well, and gave Mut doe-eyes.
Angaza blinked. More lions.. Well, lioness first. She didn't seem to want to leave, and thus, he dropped into a fighting stance, baring his fangs and snarling.
"Schatz. Get the cubs." And with that the hyena launched himself, snarling madly.
Damn lions, ruining his hunting!

Aden shook slightly at the sight of the small hyena coming towards him. For all this bravado, he'd never actually been in a fight before. He let out a shaky growl and bared his fangs, leaning back onto his hind paws and slashing blindly at the oncoming juvenile with both forepaws, sharp claws extended to their fullest.
Tia looked up at the approaching lion and sighed inwardly. What a relief, someone had heard her! They now outnumbered the hyenas completely...
Her attention snapped back to Angaza as he threw himself at her. She snarled and met his attack with strong swipes of her claws, trying to get close enough to sink her fangs into his fur.

Another roar, more memories of angry fighting. Huddled with Kabichi and Legeti, Mut felt safer, yet... She still trembled, still feared.
Snarling, Schatz tackled the other juvenile. Growling as her face was raked by the other's claws, she moved to bite.
Jumping a long-dead fallen tree, Danzi raced towards the fighting. Would he be too late? He hoped not, it wouldn't be good for cubs to be killed by hyenas within the borders of the lands.

Angaza snarled at the claws connecting with his body, knocked back slightly before he spun to see to new lion.
s**t, THE ORANGE ONE. No matter. And Angaza spun on the female again, biting at whatever he could. He wasn't running off again. That was total bullshite.
Kabichi snuggled closer to Mut herself, starting to whimper. Scary, SCARY evil furry things...
Nope, she still didn't know what a Hyena was.
Legeti, meanwhile, watched, ears pricked. BAD FUZZIES. And he shot out, and tried to...
Bite Schatz's tail. Sheer genius.
Kabichi whined.

Aden snarled and toppled over, kicking out with all four paws and clawing without thought for what he was hitting. He yowled as Schatz's teeth sunk into the edge of his shoulder and rolled away, fur and skin tearing as he did so. He whimpered, curling around to lick at the wound.
The sound of Danzi's roaring only moved Tia to attack the hyena with renewed fury. As he backed off, she did too, circling around to come between him and the cubs again. She roared again as he bit her, smacking him to one side with a clawed forepaw and backing around in front of the cubs again. Just keep between him and them, and it would be okay...

Schatz grinned, moving in again, only to find something biting her tail. With a snarl, she whirled around to find the maned wolf pup biting her. A dark paw swatted at it, trying to get it off. Pesky little thing!
Launching at the adult hyena, Danzi let out another roar, claws extending. Blood had been spilt, the blood of a Pridelander. He was NOT a happy lion. Claws flexed, teeth beared, he aimed to slam the attacking filthy beast to the ground. He hoped he'd break a few bones.
