Kimi stood in the corner of a cave in the mountains, not too far away from her own home. It was much to cold out for Kimi to walk out by herself. The snow was falling hard, perhaps there was a blizzard out? Either way, Kimi tried making herself as warm as possible. There was nowhere to really go. The lakes have been frozen over, the beach is covered in snow. Event the desert is now nothing more than a snowy field. Kimi was also worried at the same time that the cave may not be safe. As the snow fell down before the entrance of the cave, it created a small pile. Kimi worried what would happen if the pile of snow grew too big and prevented her from exitting. Ugh! Why would Kimi think such a terrible thing? Lately Kimi's mind had been a bit pessimistic due to the cold weather and the stories she has been hearing about it. Well, that is until Soquili started staying in their homes and stopped going outside to socialize with her. Hopefully some Soquili are still roaming about, perhaps one would find her.

Ok, things were just getting silly. It was still cold, he was still cold, he still hated the cold, yet Safi was still out and about, trekking through the cold and the snow. Obviously he was some sort of closet masochist; logically speaking, why would he always be out in the snow if he hated it so much if he didn't derive some sort of perverse pleasure from torturing himself?
Meh. Or he could just like to put himself in situations that made him ponder. It was difficult to tell what made him do anything anymore!
At any rate, Safi was starting to feel like he was solidifying into one large Soquili-shaped chunk of ice. He'd been hunting around for a place to get out of the cold for some time now, but it was starting to look like he'd have to go the old 'bury yourself in the snow' route...
Or not. Just as the winged stallion was starting to scour out snowbanks, a black patch caught his eye. Was that a cave? Edging closer, he poked out with his nose, listening for the echo that indicated a cave. And after a moment, he broke into a wide grin; positive results! Sidestepping the snowpile at the mouth of the cave, he sneezed once, then trotted into the cave, surrounded by the echo of his own sneeze and hooves.

Kimi squinted her eyes as a figure emerged from the snowy mist outside the cave. The figure entered in with a sneeze. Kimi's eyes adjusted to the sun's reflection on the snow to identify that a Soquili had come into the cave.
"Hello there," said Kimi. "Come to join me as we freeze through this cold winter?" Kimi smiled gently and gave a soft laugh. "You must be freezing, come a bit closer to me, I can warm you up."
Kimi shifted a bit, leaving plenty of room for the stallion to come closer.

...Well, obviously he wasn't the only one to think that getting out of the cold was a good idea! Making a noise that was a combination of a chuckle and a second sneeze, Safi nodded a greeting at the mare already occupying the cave. At least he wasn't the anti-social type!
"My apoligies for inflicting my cold germs on you; I had no idea there was already someone here, or I would have probably kept meandering. But since you don't seem to mind, I think that I'll just let you test your immune system." Chuckling without sneezing, he moved a bit further away from the entrance, smiling pleasantly at Kimi. "I'm Safi, by the way; and what brings you out here?"

"It's fine, its cold out," said Kimi. She inhaled deeply, trying to get rid of the stuffiness; she felt quite sick herself. "I'm Kimi. Well, I live not too far from here. I was on my way home and couldn't stand the cold any longer, so I got into a cave as quickly as I could. As for you?"

Nodding his head politely, Safi acknowledged Kimi's introduction and explanation; it made sense to try and camp out in a cave, he supposed, but hopefully she didn't stay in here for too long and get boxed in.
"Well, I've jsut been out roaming for a while and decided to see about warming up for a bit. My teepee is pretty far from here, so it's sort of a rabbit-hole situation; dash from here to there to there and so on and so forth." Chuckling at his own analogy, Safi leaned against the wall of the cave, crossing his forelegs and adopting a somewhat casual stance. "How long have you been here, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Hrm, not exactly sure, couldn't have been too long. The shadows haven't moved too much, although I can't really tell. The reflection of the sun on the snow hurts my eyes," Kimi laughed, feeling a little pathetic. "So, Safi, why didn't you just fly?" Kimi giggled lightly at the stallion, he seemed like one that would be fun to talk with.

"The reflecton hurts your eyes, huh? Sorry to have to be so blunt, Kimi, but that's an absolutely lousy reason to not know something. But now, as a tit for tat on stupid reasons," Here Safi broke into a rather sheepish chuckle; it was true that being blinded by snow was lame excuse, so was his for not flying. "Well, the thing is that I like to use my wings to wrap up in in the cold; and as I'm sure you can imagine, it would be remarkably tough to fly while wrapped up in my wings!"
Not the most dignified of reasons, by any means. But then, Safi had never been a stallion who set much store in dignity. Indeed, he was more than willing to laugh at himself when the situation warranted it! Chuckling a bit at Kimi, Safi gestured with his wing at both of them. "Obviously we have in common a silly motivation for how things are."

"And you say my reasons were lousy," said Kimi, ready to burst out laughing. In fact, she did just that. Kimi giggled like a little girl, as if she heard something that was truly funny. Then, in an instant, Kimi stopped, feeling slightly embarassed at her childish behavior. "I would say we get our bodies close together for warmth, but the flames on my hooves do not cause warmth, rather, they are quite cold," said Kimi, using her head to motion Safi's affection to her hooves. "You can handle the coldness inside this cave though, can you not?"

Grinning as well, Safi found himself liking this random mare already. Humor was an integral part of life, after all; his more than most. Consequently, this meeting was already going pretty decently, snow and sickness aside.
"Hey, I never said that my reasons were great; isn't it possible for us both to have foolish reasons? And you don't even need to answer that, since the fact has already been established that we do!"
As he spoke, Safi had turned to look curiously at her hooves. Icy blue flames hovered around them, but he could feel no warmth...it was very strange, but looked pretty cool all the same. "Well, tis better to have frozen feet than incinerated feet, right? I imagine the latter would be very hard to stand on." As to her last question, he merely nodded; after all, the cave was warmer than outside!

"Are anyone's reasons for doing anything stupid ever great?" said Kimi with a light laugh. "Ooh, burning hooves? Sounds like it could be quite painful." Kimi wiggled around in the corner of the cave to make more room for Safi to relax.
"So, tell me about yourself Safi," said Kimi. "Do you come from these lands? I haven't seen you before; although I haven't met a lot of Soquili before. I just figured I would have met someone as funny as you somewhere other than inside a cave during a boring cold winter day." Kimi smiled slightly at the stallion.

"Well, if you don't have any other funny personalities around this place I pity you, truly I do; humor makes the world go round, after all!" Laughing at the very absurdity of life without silliness, Safi took advantage of the extra space to stretch out his wings and finish shaking the snow off his body. Last thing that he needed was to get wetter than necessary.
Once he'd satisfied himself that he was well-dusted, he gave Kimi a grin. "Well, my home teepee is a pretty good way from here, but I tend to wander around a lot, which is what I'm doing out here to begin with. I live in a herd with 5 other Soquilis, but four of us are pretty much wanderers. And you yourself?"
It made sense to get to know strangers you met in caves, after all, especially when you didn't know how long you'd be around for. He still felt rather numb.

As Safi shook himself off from the snow, a small chuck was tossed ino Kimi's face, hitting her in the side. It didn't hurt, but it caught her by suprise and was very cold. She laughed playfully as she shook the snow off to the ground.
"I live by myself, in a cave on another mountain in the range," said Kimi with a slight nod. "The rest of my family lives further up on this mountain, I was going up to meet with my mother, but it got too cold so I rushed inside this cave. I don't see my family too often, it's kind of chaotic to do so. Is your family chaotic like that too?"

Family, huh? Well, that was an interesting tangle in his case. But why not, when it was such an interesting story?
"Well, my parents live a goodly distance away from where I do; my father is a rover and I've only clapped eyes on him once when I was newly out of my basket; mother I've seen maybe half a dozen times in the course of my life; my brother lives somewhere in the woods and we have a somewhat love/hate relationship depending on the day. I do happen to be on good terms with Kohana's two children, though, and we periodically spend time together but neither lives with me nor are they close to each other...so I'd say that yes, my family is pretty chaotic. But hey, it's either that or you don't have them at all, right?"
Leaning against the wall of the cave once again, Safi fixed Kimi in his engaging grin. It was strange in some ways to think about family strife with such nonchalance, but Safi had always had confidence that things would work out. Thanks to his nephew, he and his brother were actually talking again, and he was confident that things could only continue to improve. "And chaotic as family can be, it would really suck to have none."

"Yeah, it would be terrible to have no family, noone to tell you they love you," said Kimi, thinking of her sister Sgina. Kimi sighed, deciding not to tell too much about Sgina. "My family is quite dysfunctional. My sister is wicked, my brother is an annoyance, my father is oblivious and my mother is, well, overly-compassionate; she is very loving though, the best mother one can have."
Kimi smiled at Safi, he seemed not only to be funny, but very kind and charming as well. "So what else is there to know about you, Safi? While we hide inside this cave and all," said Kimi with a light laugh.
