well i mean your parents didnt require you to learn the language or they would have taught you or sent you to a school like me but i'm sure you'll learn you cant speak it fluently but you can speak little bits right? mix it with english? if you can do that its a start and keep asking your parents how to say stuff and watch Korean dramas and listen to Korean music it helps and just keep asking questions i'm pretty good at Korean but there are still many things i have to learn and i ask my parents what things mean and stuff ^^

Well I'm good at imitation and mimicing... Like, just basically copying what I hear. If you give me something to read in Korean I would have to grab my pronunciation guide sweatdrop but basically I could read and write a tiny bit... But I wouldn't understand a single thing.

My mum said I can go to Korean language school next year if I really want to because I've finally finished Mandarin school. Ten years... Dang, I could have been twice as fluent in Korean as I am now in Mandarin if I had learnt Korean instead for ten years! Now I have to ask all my Korean friends if they know any school around my area... I only of know one and it's sort of far from where I live.

well in order to be fluent in korean, its best to speak it as most as possible like when talking to parents, siblings, or grandparents. Also maybe some of your korean friends if they know it pretty well. and yeah do stuff that Hangookgirl says it helps a lot xP.. Or you can read Korean translated graphic novels aloud and it helps a lot. For the vocabulary however ask parents or take out a Korean/English Dictionary...Oh and its also natural for koreans not living in korea to swallow some words and become tongue tied xP((Its okay... most koreans in Korea town aren't fluent either mad ))

Korean school will help you to learn the basics but if you want to actually learn things in detail its kinda better to search out Korean tutors in the area such as Noonoppi or Yonsei Korean University schools...just giving out some info sweatdrop

but no its not really a bad thing to not know korean well if you're not living in Korea... since everyday use is actually english. And well for those of us who know how to actually speak it quite well, like hangookgirl said we still have lots more to learn

Actually, even though this is a Korean Guild, most people here can't speak or write well. Don't feel lonely. Discluding me. (Oh wow that was so conceited. But true)

Yes, Since my parents both speak it at home, and my mom frequently has friends over (more lately than ever), I get a chance to use and refine my speaking skills.

I don't think it's that bad of a thing. Only until recently I couldn't read Korean at all. What changed was that my parents got around to forcing me into Korean classes (it was rather pathetic having to take classes with people who were all about ten years younger than you xp ) So now to help my elementary Korean, I go to Korean classes, read graphic novels out loud, practice writing, and all that.

Ooh, you're going to Korea next year? I THINK I might be going, too, not quite sure. I was planning on going this summer, but we had a couple of problems...

yo, don't feel bad if you can't speak it fluently. A lot of my Korean friends can't even understand it at all. I guess it's because we live in the US (or Canada, or whatever country you may be in) and we use and hear English much more than Korean. So it's just one of the drawbacks of living in country besdies your native one: one tends to forget. lol I know I did! sweatdrop lol But learning Korean is a choice an individual has to make, especially for our generation. Have fun in Korea! (I'm going this summer too! whee )

Thats the only problem with korean. You can read it due to that the korean characters are just sounds, but you don't understand what it means.

Aigou...chengpi...XD
Naw, that's ok. I'm full blooded Korean too, but I'm way too Americanized. I've been to Korea 3x on vacation and all my relatives are shamed cause I can't speak Korean fluently. I can pretty much say a few necessary sentences...or phrases to get my point across...
The problem is, I can understand almost everything they're saying, but I can't speak Korean as fluently as I can understand it. XD
