In the english anime it says naruto uzumaki and hinata hyuuga instead of uzumaki naruto and hyuuga hintata. Did the translaters do that so it would make more sense?.......it sounds stupid to me. Give me your opinion!

In America, we usually address people by First Names first and Last Names second. In Japan, they're more formal and they usually address people by their Last Names first and their First Names second.

Mhmm, that's just how it's done. While American's are more cassual with names, the Japanese prefer to show respect to anyone.

That's just the American-isation of the names. In some cases, they even change the actual name so the Japanese name becomes an American one.

In some cases, they even change the actual name so the Japanese name becomes an American one. yea that bugs me i read the yugioh manga in shonen jump and it bugs me to read honda when im use to tristen i dont understand why they do the name thing i like japanese names unless its an american in the anime then i dont care

I think most people read Japanese manga for the authenticity of it, so it would make more sense ifthe names wee actually in Japanese style and not American-ised.

americans have never put the last name first
they always pronounce the first name first
sometimes only whe there saying here full name do they ever say the reverse

Well, in america it's your name first, family name last. ^_^
If they left it Hyuga Hinata, then people might think her name is Hyuga (the people who don't know anime). Then they'd get too confused.
either that, or they did that not to expose people to other cultures. *shrugs*

I think they are changing the names just so that the majority of the American population doesn't confuse themselves... and they names flow better with English. That is part of the reason I like to watch the Japanese versions with English subtitles XD

No.. think about it. In America you present your first name 1st, followed by your last name. In Japan, it's the other way around. I think that was just done to help adapt to the different culture.

Well, I don't guess that I can add anything... But did anyone else find it amusing when the dub anime showed Kin's name as "Tsuchi Kin" instead of "Kin Tsuchi" on the display board? Chalk that one up to not doing homework, I suppose mrgreen

I don't mind them changing the order of the names, since it makes more sense to people who aren't familiar with Japanese culture, but I hate when the change the names! I have never really understood why the networks seem to think they have to 'americanise' anime by giving them English names. What's wrong with the orginial ones!?
