Most of the sailors were used to it by now, but a few passengers here and there stopped to stare.
Ina ignored them. They didn't matter, really. She'd worry about getting stories from them later. Right now, she was enjoying the feel of the breeze through her hair at cast-off time.
She was, however, in a fairly precarious position to be doing so. The girl had made her way out to bowsprit-- that very delicate-looking piece of wood that stuck out in the front of it. She crouched down, staring at the water and letting the wind blow at her hair.

People from the Fire Nation were insane, which is why there had been a slight hesitation to get on a boat apparently navigated by one.
Tu Jin had decided that after she met Razuten, and had been proven right time and time again. Just look at that girl over there! It couldn't have been safe to stand on that wood that way.
Ina may have not been in the mood for stories, but that didn't stop everyone else. On of the passengers on the ship, for whatever reason, had also been born into the Earth Kingdom. As it was, he had also been a potential student of Sen Wei. One that she, like many, had turned down.
"Mom," Tu Jin prodded. "Those guys are whipering about you." And indeed they were. In fact, a conversation of mutters had been going back and forth for a while now, the three males staring at the instructor's back as she leaned against the side of the boat.
When Sen Wei said nothing, Tu Jin gripped one of the handles of her axes and glared at them. "Hey, you got a problem?"
The group shook their heads in unison and hurried off.
"Hmph..."

Ina heard the shout, and spun about to have a look-- there would be no trouble-making on her parents' ship! Quickly, the girl got to her feet and trotted down the bowsprit to the main deck, watching the girl with the axes carefully.
She had noted the girl earlier, as well as her mother, and meant to ask them about stories once the ship had been sailing for a bit..let everyone get settled in.

Sen Wei finally turned around. The first thing she took notice of was Ina, and from there it was a matter of logic. This time around, the only Firebenders she'd seen on the ship were ones who owned it.
This was definately their daughter based on that and her reaction.
"Don't worry about it, little girl," she said calmly. "If there will be any deaths, it will be after we dock." Truthfully, she hated the ocean. Not enough rocks to throw around when you were at sea.

"There won't be any deaths on -this- ship," she protested angrily, "If you want to kill 'em, do it before or after you get on board. I don't want my parents' reputation down the hole."
She herself hadn't realized the woman was an earthbender, but probably wouldn't have cared much if she had. The girl created a few tiny balls of flame above her fingertips, turning to the trouble-makers, "No trouble here," she threatened.

"Hey!" Tu Jin snapped before her mother could say anything. You'd think Sen Wei would appreciate the defense, but she was instead giving her offspring a strong look of dissaproval, which seemed to darken when the teenager stepped in front of her, fist up.
One fist would be all she needed to take out such a cocky little brat, if she had to.
"You better watch your mouth, kid," she warned. "She taught the Avatar, and how old are you, anyway? 9? So I'd back off if I were you." Tu Jin blinked and glanced back as a hand was placed on her shoulder.
"Both of you should calm down," Sen Wei said seriously. "I wasn't actually planning on killing anyone. That's a bit drastic a reaction for a bunch of losers such as those guys." And she knew for a fact they were fitting for that name-calling. "Now then, little girl, you can go back to... Whatever it is you do on this ship."

Ina blinked, interested, "She did, did she?" she looked the other woman over, "What's the Avatar like? You must have some good stories about her!"
She wasn't about to budge without at least that much. besides, there wasn't much else to be done now that the ship had set out. That was why she collected stories in the first place.

The oldest female present arched an eyebrow. This girl sure switched moods fast, mm? "Nothing particularly interesting." Actually, she just didn't feel like rambling on to some little brat. "The Avatar is what she should be. Disciplined, respectful and concerned with the welfare of the world as a whole."
Tu Jin took it open herself to translate that from 'adult language'. "She's really cool. We see her all the time."
Just...not lately all the time.

Ina redirected her attention-- she could tell when adults didn't feel like talking, and hey, if this girl did where her mom didn't...well, that only made it easier to get information out of her, "All the time? And she doesn't do anything interesting at all?"
She found -that- hard to believe.

Sen Wei resisted smacking herself in the face. Her own daughter had as big an attention span as this girl did. Honestly... Hadn't she been holding her fist up five seconds ago? Green eyes rolled in a circle, then the woman turned and wandered off elsewhere.
Somewhere without moronic young people.
"Well, of course she does. She is the Avatar. One time I saw her take out five full-grown earthbenders. Good ones, too. They were picking on some little kid because he'd stolen a piece of fruit from one of their stands. She tried to be rational with them, but they didn't listen."

"Oh, I hate when that happens!" she shook her head vehemently, "I bet that kid had some great stories, too. Tell me how she took out the earthbenders," she insisted excitedly. Now -these- were stories worth having.

The teen blinked. What kid?
"Oh, well," she began. "It was the first time I ever saw her. It was in the evening, I was on my way back from the market. When suddenly I hear this guy go, 'Who do you think you are?'--" She paused her story to make the appropriate expression, one that clearly taunted the stupid man. "--and then his friend goes, 'I think that's the Avatar.' Well, this first guy is really stupid, so he's like, 'No way that little woman is the Avatar! What're you doing away from your blocks of ice?' I'd have slugged that guy then and there if it were me."
Violence solved everything, in her opinion. Or nearly everything, at the very least. "Anyway, Kahamo tries to tell him to just settle down and that she'll pay for the apple that kid took. This guy--I think he was drunk--grunts and wobbles toward her like he's gonna start swinging. Suddenly this huge gust of air picks up and knocks him back into both his friends."

Ina smiled. She liked hearing about people who deserved it being put in their place. She liked this Avatar lady already!
"She sounds pretty cool," the girl nodded excitedly. She tried to think of what she could give the older girl for her story. "One sec!" she ran towards her room to grab something.

"I think the Avatar has to be." Did it depend on what you considered 'cool'? But if knowing all four of the bending elements wasn't worthy of that, what was? "Huh? Okay..." Tu Jin blinked, tilted her head and watched the girl scurry off. What a weird kid...

Ina returned shortly afterwards. She smiled, holding a silver dagger in her hands. She held it out to the other girl, "Here," she was pretty sure the other would like that better than the other things she had in her stash-- the axe indicated her love of weaponry, and this dagger was awfully pretty.
