Ok first off, this is not me yelling at the VCs, criticizing them, or anything. So if you decide to flame, drama-llama or do anything that is deemed unacceptable, you will leave or be forcibly ejected. I don't want this devolving into chaos.
Now then, I have made this to address the issue of the VCs and how additions to the guild can be made in a way that all can agree is fair. And I have some ideas, and a few key points about it that I am going to share.
First, the key points.
- ANY system that all will feel is fair WILL take a decently long period of time to make any decision. I'm thinking no less than two weeks.
- Guild decisions can't be made to satisfy one group or another. Compromise is KEY
- Fighting the VCs is pointless. They are doing the best they know how, yelling at them will just result in arguments and hurt feelings.
- Everyone in the guild deserves to be heard about their feelings on any matter that will affect them.
Now then, the proposed system that I have thought of. First off, this is a rather intensive system, with quite a few steps, but it should ultimately prove to be extremely fair.
Step 1: The Suggestion.
- A member of the guild, any member, sends a suggestion via PM to the Vice Captains (VCs should make a mule to facilitate this. A new mule, custom for the guild.) for a feature, rule, etc. that they wish to be implemented.
Step 2: VC Review.
- The Vice Captains will review the suggestion, determine if it is feasible or even needed in their eyes, and reply with their decision. At least Three out of the Four Vice Captains must make this decision, with the majority decision of the three or four VCs deciding, this allows for a VC being out of communication so that progress can still be made.
Step 3a: Guild Review.
*This step occurs if the VCs approve the suggestion or if 3b is successful.*
(This assumes the current unused subforum will be converted for this idea's purposes if implemented.)
- A thread is created in the new "Guild Management" subforum pertaining to the suggestion. It will contain all relevant data. The guild members will all be able to go into that thread for ONE WEEK, and discuss their thoughts and feelings on the matter. After this week, the VCs will review all of the USEFUL AND COHERENT thoughts given on the matter, no "This is stupid!" posts, and come up with a revised form of the suggestion.
Step 3b: Petition to Veto VC's decision and bring to Guild Review.
*This step occurs if the VCs veto the suggestion.*
- The user who made the suggestion has the chance to override the VCs decision on the matter. They will have to find fifteen people who agree with their idea, get their names and send this list of names in a reply to the VCs. The VCs upon receiving such a list will then proceed with Step 3a as though they approved the suggestion.
Step 4: The revised form of the suggestion will be posted in the "Guild Management" subforum, in a NEW thread, and users can post voting "yea" or "nay" on the matter, NO POLL. Voting will last an additional week. If 60% of the guild members who bother to vote approve the suggestion, it will be implemented. If not, the suggestion may not be re-submitted for a month, upon which time it will have to go through all of the steps again.
The way I see it, this allows everyone who isn't lazy or doesn't care to have a hand in important guild-wide decisions. This is as fair as I feel a system can be, with the rather unique circumstances we have to deal with. Please, think this through before posting, we don't need half-baked replies.
