This is the area that is in between the Soul society and Earth. it is impossible for Shinigami to travel in here so it is a perfect spot for Hollows to reside inside of to stay out of detection before going to earth to feed than retreating again.

Once activated it will carry them to Hueco Mundo regardless of what happens to the still vulnerable hollow who used the technique.
