I know that this is old information, but daily I am baffled by the mere thought of actual mobile suits making their way across the globe and being tossed into combat situations. I'd give up my dream of becoming a top programmer to enter the Mecha Devision of the military and pilot one. I read about a year ago of some guy in Japan who created a walking Biped mobile suit armed with an air cannon and a single person cockpit. I'll attempt the find the photo... eheh! =========== According to an article on the Japan Today website, a company in Maebashi has developed a real, functional, walking and bullet shooting Gundam type robot. "The single-seat Land Walker robot, which is 3.4 meters high and weighs 1 ton, can be made to walk forward and backward or sideways at 1.5 kilometers per hour by operating four pedals, and to shoot sponge bullets from two air guns installed beside the cockpit..."  ======== Now.. if only they can get them opperating and to look like this ^.^! I mean.. who wouldn't pilot it?

Colonel Lady Une Oh gosh! Which Gundam is that? The original one? If you mean the big blue one, no O_O... And the tiny green one is nowhere close... But yeah... Um.. they're under development to recreate the ZZ gundam.

Um... o.o... I'm actually not too sure.. I haven't given much time to actually looking at the mech.. although I think you're right. xD (Zeta wasn't one of my favorite series)
Um... Even if so, they're under development.. costing 60-80 million dollars each to construct... or so says sources.

The faceplate makes it seem to be one of the Zetas, they've kinda got their own style in that regard. The overall narrowness and sleekness of the design is also pretty Zeta-ish, though I still haven't seen much of it.
So, what are the odds that Japan can already make a full-size mecha, and is just holding back because they aren't allowed to have a full military xd ? If N. Korea goes to far, then Japan suddenly breaks out the mecha and stomps them I'd be pretty pleased.
That thing's pretty cool though. I've heard it isn't very mobile yet, though, which is kinda the point of mecha.

Yeah, the big one is the Zeta Gundam. It's a 1/3 scale replica with an opening cockpit that you can actually sit in. The story's a bit old, but it's still cool.
And working mecha would be great, but they'd need to get over the major problem that real world physics do not forgive first.

Yeah.. I remember the big concern with the balancing mechanism. They had an actual leg basis going and they attempted to stand it, hoping that the computer based mechanism would help it balance by applying shifts in the hip area, but that failed. I heard that the new balancing mechanism is the size of your average computer mouse. And it's pink! ;D!

Real Mecha would be so cool but I don't see any military capabilites or advantages that Mecha have. I mean a F-22 Raptor or any other jet could blow the crap out of a mecha with its missiles.

That could be very true, but you forget tht a Mecha is almost ALL computer operated. It could intercept the path of the missle with very pinpointed accuracy with an anti-missle wound.
Mecha could take on the jobs in war of bringing in rations and ammunition where a vehicle would have troubles. Also, they could take out small incampments and the such with their size and with the added ability to carry more firepower, it would be very easy to do so.
Imagine a small camp... and a giant mecha with a huge flamethrower. That camp is TOAST. Or, some of the newest and finest machine gun technology equiped, it could take out entire infantries and not have to worry about being blown up due to it's size and tough material where as the smaller ballistas could be blown up easier. those are mass produced. The Government would make their first few mechs SUPER durrable, and very reliable since they could simply reload the same one over and over rather than make several ballistas.
1 Mech could = An entire platoon of men.
Also think of Biohazards. A mech woldn't really have to worry about Radioactive material, or exposure to Gas. Nor things like Extreme heat. The mech could be specialy suited for such things, like say, a mas explosion causes a huge fire to go up and in the center of the fire is something the military needs. Send in a mech, the Pilot is safe inside.. anmd retreive the item.
