My choir is pretty much unstereotyped..

*gasp!* is there such a thing?!?

Well.. my choir kinda is.

I'm reading through the threads with the altos picking on sapranos, sapranos picking on altos... which Tenors and bass just kinda hang out and eat pizza... or whatever you guys do in your off time...

but most of the stereotypes I'm reading are completely opposite for my choir

(besides a couple saprano ones, like them being preps.. Thats true in my choir, but some of them are cool preps)

I'm just wondering.. how many people are in your choirs? We seriously only have about 25 total (3 tenor, 3 bass, 8 alto and 8 saprano) (Due to lack of singing guys at my school) so we're mostly cool with each other and we leave our differences outside when we sing.. Maybe choir group size has something to do with it?

Why must there be choral rivalry? We're all singing the same song, afterall. Melody is just as important as harmony.

Personally I have nothing against anybody. However I myself have noticed a great amount of preppy sopranos. Not all of us, but quite a few of my section are gonk

there are not much of rivalrys between parts in my show choir. there are 48 members in my choir. but if you combine all the show choirs at my school (5 main show choirs, advanced mixed, advanced womens, intermidiate womens, intermediate mixed, and intermediate mens.) you have over 185 singers. about a large amount (about 80 i think) are guys. so yea. my choirs are big.

in our 60-voice choir, there are no part rivalries. There are some bad feelings over the fact that the vocal performance majors get most of the solos, but honestly, those people are training to become professional singers, and they generally all sing better than the rest anyways. If the rest of the choir members spent 1-2 hours every day practicing complex vocal excersises, they would be just as good!

Our choir has a whopping 68 members. Never mind sectional rivalry... there's INTERSECTIONAL rivalry! There's the normal sopps (the "losers" who aren't the steriotypical sopps) versus the steriotypical (preps/sluts/bitches) sopps, the quiet/ignorant (don't want to learn or sing) altos versus the serious, experienced altos.

And as you said, the guys just kind of kick back and eat O_o

what is with that? Guys never rival! They're just all cool with eachother, except for the odd loser that walks in on them. I wish girls could be like that ._.

Which is why I preffer a guy's company.

That's cause guys have nothing to rival about. They're both pretty much harmonies, and when they do get melody its unison.

Hurrah for men!

I just don't understand my fellow women. Way to complex. >.< Why can't we all be friends? gonk

i love singing harmonies even though i am saprano. i dont get y a lot of sapranos comlain about melody and the altos complain about harmony. i simply love both. without harmony the music is slightly boring.

Oh, yeah. There's actually an email that my friend sent to me that's the stereotypes of choir.

According to the email, basses and altos like each other and sopranos and tenors like each other. This is actually really true in my choir. The bass section leader is one of my best friends. I have two other friends who are both altos; we formed the AAT (Awesome Alto Trio)

Two of the three of us have gone out with him. One of us has liked him for a really, really long time. ^O^ So we have the grand and glorious choir stereotypes.

in my choir that's not the case.

the sapranos like the bases more (mainly 'cause those guys are so likable) but most of us altos hang out with the tenors more ('cause altos are crazy like the tenors.. which half of them are probably getting kicked out next semester.. which involves 1 1/2 of them. (The 1/2 is 'cause I'm not sure about one of them, but the other one will probably most likely be kicked out..))

I'm in a SSAA choir.

SOOOOO much Soprano vs. Alto tension. And we're all girls, so that just makes us cattier...

The sopranos are pretty chatty, so the altos are like, "SHUT UP! Respect the director!" And then the sopranos are like, "Well butt out, bla bla bla..."
And then we have to hold down some of the altos..."Just let it go, just let it go..."

our tenors have a talking problem, but other then that we mostly have a problem with people totally not working that seems to have infected about half the altos like a virus. >.>

Same with my choir, Lianna! Well, the nobody working bit. Seriously, we have 1 alto that still sings, and 4 sopranos that do... sweatdrop The rest kinda goof off or pretend they're working when they're not.

There's only...um...18 of us? Yeah, something like that. 2 guys, 8 sopranos, and 8 altos. Our altos don't sing out at all, and complain about anything higher than a G or so being too high for them to sing. The sopranos are all too quiet as well, but nobody in the choir save one of the guys and myself can actually read music. And the others brag about it. Being a section leader is fun!

Oh, and the altos dislike the fact that they have to sing the harmony. Then we give them the melody and they complain that it's too high. Oh, did I mention 5 or so of our members are tone deaf?

...yeah. I cannot wait for college.

We have about 120 total people in our choir. about 40 sopranos, 40 altos, 20 tenors, and 20 bass. We have every type of social group in the choir. I hate kids that join for an easy A.

Um...my concert choir has a lot of people I've never really counted. If I had to guesstimate I would say about 25 altos, 15 sopranos, 8 basses, and 3 tenors. That choir has a lot of cliques and is kind of annoying, but I don't think anyone completely hates anyone.

My show choir has 34 members (9 altos 8 sopranos 12 basses and 5 tenors) Pretty much everyone gets along perfectly in show choir. It has a real family environment. There's just one kid that no one likes, because he skips all the practices and when he does go he just sits there when we're supposed to be dancing gonk
