A strange sight may have been noticed on either Island, of a rather small furry complete with a tool box and a white child Aerandir at her side traipsing across the sandbar almost daily. All of it might make sense when on the night of November the 30th, a trail of Christmas fairy lights suddenly light up each lodge.

If anyone were to look at the lights closely, they were solar powered, each with their own individual source, and as of such seem to glow dimly even during the sunlight day. Alongside that, hanging on each of the lodge's doors hung a green wreath finished off perfectly with a large red ribbon hanging along the bottom.

Yet, the strangest of it all stands in the centre of each Island. On the notice board just outside of each lodge suspends a large advent calendar, nailed back into mahogany wood and completely laminated to protect it from any harsh weather that may choose to assail it. Someone with magic may notice it, but if watched carefully, even on the days when nobody opens it from one or both sides, another day cracks open. Even if no body from one Island opens a flap, one on the other might, and somehow a simultaneous connection is found between the two.

Strange? Maybe, then again, there have been far stranger things on Gaia than opening Advent Calendars.

The dice Game

Of course, with one post during this month you will be aloud to roll a dice with it. Depending on the outcome of the roll, depends upon what prizes you win. There's everything in the prizes piles from Christmas hats, to sweets (for IC) to art.

The outcome of any certain dice roll will be made available on the 4th, which should only affect Foe (Sorry about this!). Good luck with your rolling!

FAQ:
1. How do I roll a dice?
- Good question! When you post, make sure you do a 'Post Action'. This should extend to a small blue tab just above your post. From there, when you select a dice, make it a TWENTY sided dice and have ONE dice only. Then just post, and your roll should be entered with your post.

2. How long should my post be, and what should it contain?
-A basic Role play post can be as long (or as short) as you like. However, a few suggestions to include may be your Aerandir's reaction to the Calendar, whether she/he has noticed it before, perhaps the reaction to previous flaps open and of course opening his/her own flap (then you may wish to include a reaction to this). However, as I said, it's up to you what you post.

3. How will I know what date I need to post on, and can I still sign up?
- No worries, as long as a day hasn't passed and you haven't already done a day with that particular Aerandir, then you're free to change/swap or sign-up at any point in December. However, the dates open are still first come first serve.
If you want a certain date, I'd rather you took it sooner or later. If you do decide to change/swap dates/sign-up then please could you post this change in the main winter thread.

4. Who made your calendar?
- Aly! So much luff and thanks to him for the amazing calendar. ^^

Cerise snarled at the small pools of sunlight that managed to sneak in through the tree canopy. Icky, icky light. Still, the shadows were large, and spills of sunlight rather few and far between, so it was easy to avoid them. The shadows were nice and cool.

And they allowed her to hide more easily from her big sister.

"Cerise? Cerise, get back here right now! I'm going to ground you so long you'll be an Elder before you get to leave the house!" Nehanda could be heard clearly as she stomped along, clutching several mangled pages of her precious Herbal.

Cerise snickered, an odd noise coming from her parrot's beak. The ink that Nehanda used, something that she'd created herself from several of her smelly plants, tasted really good. So if Cerise had chosen to take a few nibbles here and there, well, it was Nehanda's own fault for leaving the book out.

Feeling very smug, the cat/parrot gryphon slipped farther and farther away from the house. This was, she realized, probably the farthest she'd ever been from home by herself. It was nice and quiet. Slowly, she wound herself closer and closer to the Cetalu Centre.

It was there that she noticed the large board. It was painted in bright, appealing colors. Cerise stared up at it and wondered if the wood was any good to nibble on. It seemed to be comprised of several flaps? Doors? How fascinating. Perhaps there was something interesting inside.

Leaping up, Cerise flapped her wings and brought herself closer to the odd board. When she was level with the top, she reached out with her beak and tugged at the first of the flaps. It flew open easily, revealing something the little gryphon had never seen before.

It was a crystal snowflake. Not that Cerise knew what a snowflake was. But the soft light of the clearing made it shine and twinkle, almost as if it had begun to melt like a real snowflake. How pretty. She wanted to stretch out a paw and claw the pretty thing off the board, but movement outside the clearing alerted her to Nehanda's presence. She had to hide!

Surpressing her instinctive "croak." Cerise pushed back off and into the air, where she took to the tree canopy to conceal herself better.

Behind her, the snowflake hung inside the door of Day 1, twinkling softly as a random sunbeam reflected off its facets.

((I realize that there are several types of advent calendars. Some reveal little scenes, and others have little ornaments or candy. I wasn't sure which you wanted, Taley, but I thought the snowflake ornament looked so lovely in the back of my mind . . .))

Oleo had woken early today, Air had asked him to go to the lodge and see if he could find some lettuce in the fridge for todays meal. Keen was, still sleepy, taking a ride on Oleo's shoulder. The wind seemed a bit cold, even tough it was a bright sunny day already. He walked slowly through the village between the small woden houses towards the lodge, trying to figure out why it seemed nicer than usual today.

Upon arrival at the lodge, however, he noticed something he had not seen before. There seemed to be a calendar hanging from the door, however not like most calendars he had seen. It was beautifully decorated with shiny white things... whatever they might be.

Keen noticing the sudden stop also raised her head from his shoulder to take a look at the thing. She chirped loudly to get Oleo's attention back to what they had come to do.

"Oh, wight! We 'ave to get the lettuce" He said looking at her and then at the calendar. "This will just take a minute". he said noticing that number one was missing from it, he raised his arm slowly to touch number two beside it. However just as his fingers touched it the number fell down as well. "What? I didn't do it!" he said looking around, only to realize, Keen was the only one there. "Dunt say anyfing 'bout this, ok?"

Keen simply shaked her head ruffling her feathers, which he interpreted as an ok, as they walked into the lodge, to get the lettuce quickly and go back home.

Where both the gryphon and the Aerandir child had touched, the panels were now missing. Alongside, number three wavered precariously in the air, before being swept off by the breeze.

Had Cerise looked behind the small sparkly (Now strangely missing, currently found wrapped in brown paper, addressed to the Nehanda and Cerise, sitting at Cetalu's house number two's porch) at door number one, behind each door was a small Aerandir picture. An Aerandir gryphon, printed onto the cardboard.

Nehanda slowly wound her way toward the Cetalu Centre. She wanted another look at the odd board, discovered the other day when she had been angrily searching for her little sister.

It was a pretty day, and she reached a hand out to brush the familiar leaves and blooms of the foliage around her. She really loved this place. By now, the Herbalist probably knew every single plant on the island by heart, but there was still so much to learn! She really hoped that Foenix would give her those new gardening books as a Solstice gift. Nehanda had been dropping some pretty strong hints . . .

And that thought led to others. What was she going to give her various friends for holiday gifts? The one downside of these islands was that they were located so far away from the Gaian mainland. Dealing with mailorders from catalogs was so boring . . .

Nehanda shrugged. There were still a few weeks left. She'd figure something out!

And with that, she realized that her thoughts had led her right up to the Centre's notice board. Tilting her head, the swan maiden studied the brightly painted board. What was it, exactly? She'd have to ask Foenix. She traced a finger lightly over the various panels, stopping briefly to press the one labeled "4." Well, today was the 4th of December. Perhaps it was some sort of weird calendar?

She'd really have to ask Foenix.

Osusuki made his way down the path to the village centre , energetically bouncing with each step. He'd been around the house for most of the day, and wanted to take a trip elsewhere. It was boring just being in one place for too long! Yasu knew where he was going anyway, and it wasn't like it was far away. Maybe there'd be some of the other Aerandir there too that he could play with.

Reaching the doorway, the spellweaver paused. That was odd. He hadn't seen that here before.. Stepping back, Osu studied the large calendar for a moment. It looked awesome! It was all bright and shiny and it had pictures and numbers on it. Whatever it was, it was really cool!

Moving up to the calendar again, the young Aerandir reached up, wondering if there was anything else that was special about it. Seeing the pictures more clearly now, he stopped again. There were pictures of gyphons in the open doors. Yasu said that he'd been like that when he was young. And some of the images on the calendar looked familiar somehow.. like he recognised them from somewhere else. He'd need to tell Yasu about this. Maybe he'd know what it was.

Osu reached over to one of the open doors, his furred fingers tracing lightly over the image of the black and white Aerandir. Reaching up, he then prodded one of the numbered doors - number 5. As soon as he had touched it, the door began to swing open. Osu jumped back, watching the large calendar with undisguised curiousity. It moved all by itself too! Underneath the door was another of the gryphon pictures. Wow... this was so cool! He had to tell Yasu and Sasha! Spinning around on one foot, the young spellweaver took off back the path, running back to the house to tell the others what he had found.

Acia had spied the new addition to the notice board in the Center and had gone on a mission to find out what the strange item was. Alyosha hadn't been familiar with it but after some reading she came across information on 'advent calendars' - the thing in front of her appeared to be one such calendar. Part of a Christian tradition, Acia had found out, which marked the days until Christmas - a holiday which she was familiar with.

Acia had also spent time watching the calendar discreetly. Some had been opened by Aerandir of Cetalu, some had opened by themselves. She wasn't sure what magic was bringing about this opening or wether, in fact, someone just happened to be about when she was asleep. She realised that the only way to find out was experimentation.

With slight trepidation the slight Aerandir sidled up to the calendar. She raised on golden yellow hand and hesitantly reached to open one of the small panels - the 6th one for the 6th day of December. Her body almost cringed as if waitiing for some strange thing to happen as she opened it.

Nothing.

Acia stared at the small picture of a skunk-woodpecker Aerandir behind the door. She didn't recognise it but knew it must have come from the items given to Nehanda.

With a slight from she stalked away from the calendar - pondering the mystery of its appearance.

(( Apologies for the slight lateness of this post sad ))
Osero made his way towards the village centre, his long spear balanced over one shoulder. A brace of freshly caught fish swung from his woven belt, their scales glittering silver in the sunlight. The tall Aerandir covered the ground quickly, his strides long. He was used to travelling fairly long distances over the course of a day. Just now, he planned on dropping the fish into the centre before heading back to his cabin to fix that net he'd had lying about for far too long.

Just as the hunter made his way down the path, the brightly coloured board caught his eye. What was that there? Heading towards it, Osero paused in front of it. Something in his memory jogged. He had seem something like this before...

Of course. He suddenly remembered, and a smile crossed his face. His old guardian, Brian had had something like this long ago, when Osero had been much, much younger. His had been much smaller, and made of flimsy card, but it had the little doors and brightly coloured images. What was it called again..?

After a few moments, the hunter shook his head to himself. He couldn't remember what Brian had called it. He did, however, remember being able to open the doors - one for each day of the month. It was the.. 7th today, was it not? From what he could see, the door for today had not yet been opened. Almost instinctively, the tall Aerandir shifted his spear to the ground, reaching forward to open the door marked with a '7'. Stepping back again, a slight smile crossed his face. Brian's one had pictures of odd things - of humans in red suits and lumpy white shapes, but this one had Aerandir on it. Osero wondered to himself who had made it. Maybe Acia or Rahujo would know. He would need to ask one of them when he next saw them. Shouldering his spear again, Osero headed on into the centre to deliver the fish to the kitchen.

Sasha slipped down the path towards the village centre, sneaking what she thought was a furtive glance over her shoulder. Nobody seemed to have followed her. They mustn't have noticed that she'd sneaked off yet. It wasn't like she was doing anything really bad.. she'd be back before they knew it. She just wanted to see this big bright board thing that Osu had talked about. It had to be here somewhere...

A sound suddenly came from behind her; a rustle on the path. The striped Aerandir froze for a moment before spinning around. She tried to think up a good excuse on the spot, but nothing came to her. Uh oh.. And then.. nothing but a big black bird flying up into the air. Must have been that. Sasha stared at it for a moment, before losing interest. She couldn't chase it or catch it or have any sort of fun with it once it was up there in the sky.

The young aerandir turned back to the path again, remembering that she had come here to see the magic board. Making her way up to the door of the centre, she stopped as the large red board caught her eye. There were funny squiggles on it, and little door things. Some of them were open, and had pictures inside them. It would have been better if the little animal pictures were real. Then it would have been more fun.

Remembering something that Osu said about touching the closed doors, Sasha reached up and poked at one of them curiously. As soon as her fingers brushed it, the door swung open, seemingly by herself. Wow. Osu was right. And that was kind of cool. She examined the calendar for a few more moments with a childish curiousity, poking and prodding at it some more. Figuring that there was nothing more that the brightly coloured board did, she decided that she should probably return to the house. Maybe if she was real quiet, Yasu and Osu wouldn't even notice she had been gone. Maybe.
