No, I'm not talking about the website. I'm talking about the religious aspect.
Since ancient times, our planet has been referred to as Gaia. Indeed, in Greek mythology, Gaia, or Gaea, was the name of Mother Earth. Modern Gaianism is, simply put, the belief that the Earth is sacred. You can be a part of any religion and still consider yourself a Gaian if you believe that the Earth is sacred.
From here you can go a bit more into depth... all humans have something in common, in that we all share the Earth. Furthermore, we must take good care of the Earth, our sacred home, because once it's resources are gone, we don't really have any other place to go.
Some people take this even further and actually believe that the Earth is a conscious, divine being. This belief isn't required to be considered a Gaian, but it goes to show just how far Gaianism can go.
I, personally, am a Gaian, as are most members of nature-based religions. So I was just wondering who here is also a Gaian. I'm especially interested in seeing how many non-Pagans subscribe to the sacred Earth belief.

I'm non Pagan, but i don't know if one would consider me a Gaian. I find beauty in nature, and am an environmentalist, but I don't know if I consider the earth sacred. I think that there's deffinately something spiritual about it.

I myself am a wiccan/druid, and I would consider myself a gaian. I don't consider myself gaian because I'm a pagan, I am gaian because I feel that the earth is sacred, I have had many thoughts that the earth may be a conscious divine being, but I'm not sure as to how much I believe those thoughts.

I am most definitely Gaian; I always felt it was wrong when in Church they said we were "lords over the earth and all it's creatures". I thought that if that was so, the environment wouldn't affect us so much.
I've always hated seeing construction too, they always dig gargantuan holes. It kind of hurts...
so yes. I'd absolutely consider myself a Gaian.

I guess I can't consider myself a true gaian. I think nature is pretty, even beautiful, but I don't think I can consider it sacred. I'm more of a city person. I prefer all the bright flashing lights, the beautiful architectures, the whole fast pacedness of it all. I'm not one to just settle down on a hamick and just sit there marvoling at the trees. I HAVE to be doing something.
I like nature, in fact, I LOVE camping. One of my favorite things to do. I love hiking as well. But if someone were to destroy those places and resurect buildings, I wouldn't really be bugged in the least about it. Mabey its because I find a sunset behind a beautifully built adn intricately designed building much more beautiful than a sunset behind a huge mountain and some trees. I don't know. I suppose its just a preference more than anything...

Maybe.

Pyroharuko I am sort of a athist right now ( I know I spelled 'athist' wronge, sue me...) Because I dont know what I am. But yes I would consiter myself a true Gaian. It's generally accepted that if you don't believe in a god at all, you're an atheist... But if you believe in something and you just don't know what, you're considered agnostic. So if you don't have a religion but still believe there's a god, you could consider yourself agnostic... Some people don't follow this definition, but most do. Just wanted to inform you. 3nodding

Afraid not. Then again, I don't belive in the spiritual, so that would be kind of hypocritical. I do respect the earth for what it is though. I just don't believe it is holy or sacred.

Can you be Catholic and be Gaian. I revere the Earth and keep it sacred. I see as God's gift to us and that we shouldn't destroy it but hold in reverence. So would I count? You said that any religion could be part of this one. It seems more like a state of being to me instead of a true religion.

Prongs Jr I revere the Earth and keep it sacred. Gaianism relies on the fact that the earth is sacred inherently, so while some Catholics may be gaianists(Gaian?), this implies that you are not. I don't mean this to be insulting, just as a definition.

UI meant more to the fact that the Earth is asacred always was and that we should keep this fact in mind. Oh hell I'm confuzzled. My brain is in a right twist it is!

I don't mean this to be insulting, just as a definition. Actually, Gaianism is NOT a religion. It's simply a belief, like karma or reincarnation. Unless your religion specifically teaches against it, you may or may not believe in any of those. So yes, ANYONE may be a Gaian if they think the Earth's sacred. As far as I know, there's not a religion that (specifically) worships the Earth itself.
