A friend of mine said something that bothered me today. That she would "Be a disgrace" if she wore pants in public instead of a skirt. While I admit that I do prefer skirts over pants and I feel a little bad when I wear pants outside, but a disgrace? No. Maybe a little lazy, but never a DISGRACE. Should Lolita be something that causes you to think you're disgraceful if you don't dress it every single bloody day?
Is this what any fashion should be?
That word bothers me. It bothers me that is should be used in this way. I wanted to say something, but this friend doesn't like me very well and it would have only worsened things. sweatdrop
Feel free to comment or express your opinion. Even if you disagree with me, I'm still open to hearing your thoughts. Maybe it will help me understand this very confusing persn a little better.

Well, Fashion is not something that is only for 'popularity', but it also expresses you, and who and what you are. So if she feels that uncomfortable, then I think it's fine, unless she thinks she's sort of 'betraying' the way of a lolita.

I personally think that that's entire nonsense. Being un/comfortable is one thing, feeling that wearing something that isn't femenine enough is disgraceful, however, just silly. We wear clothing to express ourselves and to be noticed; however, when clothes take that much importance in one's personal view of oneself, it's time to take a few steps back and reevaluate the motives behind wearing that particular fashion.

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.- I think that's exactly what it is. O-o; She wears pants on the weekends, so she's obviously comfortable wearing them.... Though I think she might be sort of embarrassed from wearing pants on Halloween because she couldn't get the costume she wanted to wear together. :/ I was sad for her.

That's what I've been thinking as well...I do hope it's not because she wants some sort of approval...that would be a horrid reason to dress Lolita or any other fashion.

Don't a majority of Japanese lolis only dress that way on the weekends, anyhow? It's expensive and a time consuming habit-- I don't even dress casual loli every day. Your friend seems a little dramatic. XD Tell her to wear what she likes.

But I'm not sure-- there are probably girls who devote at least a little bit of time to throwing Lolita-esque accessories into their uniforms. I mean. What with the Kawaii Culture that rages through women for heir whole lives and what not.
In any case! Yes. Way extreme.

Frankly I like to think it doesn't have much to do with fashion at all, but I'm sure that's just wishful thinking. I guess this really all boils down to what caused such thoughts. Is it their own personal preference or cultural imprinting? Or do opinions come from cultural influences?
I'd say if they feel they would be disgraced if they wore pants because that's how they were made to feel, then that's probably pretty wrong, on the other hand if it's their own opinion and they just don't like pants, then I don't see anything wrong with that. Personally there's a few things I would feel pretty disgraced about as well, but those are personal opinions and not really problematic.
As for my opinion on pants and skirts... well that's another issue. Heh..

I know it's not that she actually dislikes pants. :/ She only just discovered Lolita last year and wore pants nearly everyday and pined after a pair that she saw in my Fruits photbook thingy.

I think your friend is taking it waaay to seriously. Who's going to act like she's someone in disgrace, her fellow loli? She's really only doing it to herself; I'm sure the rest of us, like me, don't have the money to dress that way all the time, like it's been said, and that we just don't always have the time to coordinate our outfits that way, no matter how much we would like to. I think that you should ask her just WHO would pay attention if she wore pants.
Besides, it's cold in the winter. D:

Your friend seems a little dramatic. XD Tell her to wear what she likes. I wear Classical Lolita most of the time, usually after school (mainly because I'm always out somewhere) but I don't wear the more elaborate clothing any time other than weekends or special occasions... It takes too long to get ready to wear them all the time... sweatdrop

Is she american, if so... I think that she's missing a HUGE part of her american heritage! I wear pants mostly for work and I'll tell you I thank many women who SUFFERED so we girls could wear pants! Ask her is it a disgrace to vote? how bout being able to be a profession that's not a teacher or a nurse? there's history behind those pants and there are many religions and countries where women STILL can't wear pants. pants are a gift from the very women who's fashions we mimic.
