Okay, some people wonder why Daniel Handler, (Lemony Snicket's real name eek ) made his name Lemony Snicket in the books. The reason is that he wanted to be the narrator figure, so therefore figured out a rhyme of Jiminy Cricket.
Odd though, so therefore, a character in Pinnochio (sp?) and Lemony are long lost brothers.
-EDIT-
Here's a paragraph from Quidditch.com (they have a Lemony Section, I know Quidditch is from Harry Potter):
Lemony Snicket: Scotty draws a verbal parallel between Jiminy Cricket and Lemony Snicket (keep in mind this only works if you regard the Disney version as the source, in the original Italian of Pinocchio the cricket is Grillo-parlante or The Talking Cricket). The vowels and consonants match up and Jiminy/Lemony does perform the role of conscience really well. Chemists among you will also note the Cr to Sn transformation which reads "Jiminy is Chromium and Lemony is Tin" which given the scientific allusions in the series makes a stronger case than I would otherwise posit. Daniel Handler has discredited this in a radio interview - so it's here only as a example of how you need to be ready to forgo dilapidated theories when faced with facts.

I think there's more to it then him just wanting to be a narrator.. He's a much bigger part of the story then that in my opinion, and makes it loads better. 3nodding

At first, it just seems like a pen name, but once you meet Jaques, you realize it's much more. I think it's really unique what Daniel did, and I think it's pretty cool, and adds to the feel of the book.

I think maybe he might've started out as just a narrator of sorts, and maybe as he wrote more he changed it. I don't know though. I'm big with the writing, myself, and for me sometimes I have everything planned out. The importance or non importance of each character. However, it can also happen that a character that you at first planned to be a fairly minor or just simple, not major character can end up being really important or more important, or vice versa. Maybe that's what happened with Lemony.

I think that why he does that is because he wants to make himself look mysteryous and make the story intersting.

Seeing as it reads like a depression victim's version of a Disney tale, I suppose the Jiminy Cricket comparison works well xp

He said in an interview hw came up with Lemony Snicket itself because when he pjoned a military base (For info on one of the books, he didn't say which I think) he decided that it would'nt be safe to give his name to them on (I quote) 'The verge of impending litery fame', so he came up with Lemony Snicket.
I read that i authors zone I think. Just thought it was kinda funny.

I really like the name, it really adds to the story. It also fits with the mood of the book, for example the word lemon is a rather sour bitter sounding word, and snicket does too. Mabey that is what he was trying to do when he thought up the pen name. (I just bought the new book, its good!)

i agree with the sour theory. it really does fit with the book. i don't really care why he did it, perhaps just because he DID plan out the whole series. perhaps, in the end, it will hold some great unforeseen significance. we shall see, i suppose. i've not read any books but the first 10. i would like to read the autobiography and such, but i think i'd rather like to read the whole series first. i want to figure things out for my own and see where they take me before he explains anything at all.
