Which Final Fantasy was your first? Did you just stumble upon it or did a friend force you to play? Were you hooked right away or did you have to play a couple of games before you caught on? What kind of games did you like before Final Fantasy, and do you still like them as much? Share your stories!
My first was VIII. I was eight when it came out, so I think I started playing soon after that. My brother already had VII, but I didn't pay much attention to it (probably because I cared too much about graphics at the time), then I started playing VIII and became obsessed pretty fast. Before that, I think my favorite game was Spyro, which I still like, but haven't played in a long time. Now I miss it...

My first FF was FFVI, but it was the SNES version that was first released in the States. I got hooked pretty much instantly, but only because I was very young at the time. I first played it when I was 5 and I'm 17 now. I got really hooked when I was better able to understand the storyline (which was only a couple years later), especially the love story portion of it. What can I say? FF made a sensitive man outta me.

My first FF was FF3 for the SNES so FF6 in actuality. I went to my brother's friend's house and they were just starting the game. They said that "we" (as in the four of us there; me, my bro, him, his lil' bro) were going to beat it within the rental period. We didn't sleep for 3 days as we spent half our spring break there playing that game.
The point at which i knew I was hooked was when we faught the Wind dragon, the highest level dragon of the eight. The party was Locke, Edgar, Sabin, and Mog. After a while everyone but Mog died and Mog was doing a dance, the one that you get from fighting on the grass in the first world. We had no choice but to sit there and cheer for our moogle, and we did for 45 minutes. Mog was doing great at keeping himself alive, everytime he'd get near death he'd do sunburst healing his HP to full. Eventually he died but after near and hour of us cheering for him I knew that I'd try over and over again to match the intensity of this, the first Final Fantasy I'd ever seen.
We beat that game and I watched the ending in awe. the graphics weren't amazing but they were done well enough to still look wonderful, and beyond that the storyline was gripping to the point that made you fall in love with each of the more complex charatcers.
It was then that I realized that video games were more than enteratainment, they were an artform. And since then I've persued that with all my heart, now I'm becoming a game designer and I think back and know that if I hadn't gone with my brother that weekend... I wouldn't be where I am now.

My first Final Fantasy was FF7. Back then, I had no idea what was RPG. I normally get games just how the way the art look on the front. I found the art of it to be cool. I expected a hack 'n' slash game, but I gotten better. I got the gift of RPG open to me. And FF7 was the first. The story, cool characters, etc. It was awesome to me. A whole new world was opened to me.

My first FF was FF9. A friend of mine had it and he let me played. I loved it and actually didn't get it until a few years later but always thought about it and became an indirect fan.

My first Final Fantasy was FFVII. One of my classmates when I was in middle school at the time talked about it constantly and also gave away the spoiler of Aeris dying. I wasn't too happy about that since when I finally played the game that scene didn't effect me too much considering I already knew that was going to happen at some point. I didn't really start wanting the game though until quite a few months later when my sister introduced it to me; showing me the first scene and playing it to give me an idea of what it was about. I was immediately hooked afterwards and wanted to get it. xd

It was either Final Fantasy V or Final Fantasy (and/or III ) VI as I was only a really little kid and my dad had kept all of the originals that came out here until a few years ago.
I was always watching my dad play them and asking him about the game and trying to give him suggestions even back then because he was always the one that I thought was a great gamer back then....
I was hooked, I played through VII and then forgot about Final Fantasy due to no longer having them until I was reading PlayStation Magazines and Final Fantasy VIII sparked it again. ((It is still my favorite. 3nodding ))
And until VIII, I didn't seem to be a fan until it sparked everything once more.
Sure I may not be able to remember V or VI or even earlier but I will get them again and continue my collection of Square Soft and/or SQUARE-ENIX favorites.
[And now I'm glad that I've well grown up playing Final Fantasy.]
((Now I may not be exactly right on this because I can't remember very far back so I'm just going from what my dad thinks he remembers.))

Thinking back on it now, I always said that FF VIII started for me, but it was actually FF VII. I suppose I don't remember too much of it because I never actually got really into it. When FF VIII came out I became obessed with FF and bought all the ones I could find.
Thank you FF VII for starting my addiction to FF games in general.
