To get Nookingtons someone has to buy something from your Nookway store. Someone you connect to through Wifi, etc.

You need someone to buy from Nook's store and 240k in bells should be spent in total. Then you get Nookingtons.
P.S. Nope, the 240k doesnt need to be done in one go because it's in total.

Are you sure it's 240k spent? I thought it was total bells that traded hands....cause I remember getting to Nookway in like, a week of just selling fish

For membership it's buying only.
For Nook's upgrades, it's buying and selling. And the buying from another player doesn't have to be anything special.
